  1. I stopped into my local store since I was passing it today. Nothing on sale in the kit aisle. Saw the same movement of more diecast onto the shelves that others had noticed at their stores. Went to the clearance corner and at first glance saw nothing, but once I moved a few boxes I found one '66 Mercury for $7.49, one of the show cases for $2.29 and interestingly enough one of the diecast Greenlight trailers for $7.49. I grabbed all of those! I did leave behind 3 of the cabin cruisers... no sale at any price!
  2. Thanks Freddy! Always glad to talk with people interested in the same kits! I will finish mine, just for history's sake. If I was to build a nice one, I'd go to the latest Revell toolings of these cars. Take their newest '57 Chevy and mate it with their '56 Chevy nomad. That would allow for a modern detailed model!
  3. It looks pretty good for the God awful kit you started with! ? Be careful with the chrome spears that go on top of the back fenders. They have an awful fit, and if I was going to do it again, I'd mold them in prior to painting and just BMF 'em. This was one of my favorite cars as a kid. And this box art got me into the model. As an 11-12-13 year old, I never actually got it all assembled. I'd always get stuck at some point and give it up. Then the next year I'd see the box and buy it again, reasoning I was a year older and up to the challenge. Um, nope! So once I started building as an adult, I built the AMT '57 Ford and did fairly well on it. So I figured I'd build the Nomad as a shelf mate. I put a lot of earnest effort into it but still have it in parts, never finished. Recently I agreed to finish it up as part of the "Bring Out Your Dead" group. I have it out on my bench, but am finishing up two other projects before I dig in. I met Bob Paeth at the GSL one year and he told me the story about releasing this car. We became friendly and for the next GSL, I folded up and packed this box top. Bob was kind enough to sign it for me (see in the sand). So I will always treasure this box! Back when Dean Milano still worked at Revell, I had suggested to him that they release the kit but WITH the decals to do the Hollingsworth car's flames like on the box. And to use the original boxart! He said that Revell was so broke at that time that they couldn't even finance a decal sheet! So that never happened. Later on Danbury Mint was going to do the Hollingsworth car about the same time the 1:1 recreation was built. That was right when their Chinese partner when kaput, which ended the entire vehicle program. Speaking with Rick Hanmore, he said the furthest they got for the project is that they had a completed prototype. And in the end they gave it to the car's owner as a gift for giving them access to the car. I definitely would've bought one of those! Looking forward to seeing yours completed! Then maybe I'll work on mine!
  4. I will stop in there when I drive by, usually on my way home from Walmart. I take a quick look for anything new or on sale. I also check out the length of the line since they'll usually only have one register open. IF I see something I want I will always use my 40% off coupon. If the line is long, I make sure everyone on that line knows about the coupon! That's their penalty for my waiting! IF I don't see anything I want and there isn't a line, I'll buy a supply item. Another can of Dullcote, flat black or another one my Testors staples. If I have enough of that in my home stock, I can get a pack of stamp album pages from the next aisle. And of course with the 40% off coupon.
  5. spreading poop everywhere!
  6. Buffalo Legs! It goes like this... Buffalo wings were originally conceived by the Anchor Bar in Buffalo, NY in 1964 as a tasty bar treat because they were the cheapest part of the chicken. Well it kinda caught on. I usually make my own grilled Buffalo wings from fresh full size wings. The store had none. But they had tons of legs...and at less than HALF the price of wings. Note that legs have a lot more meat per pound than wings! So we had Buffalo legs! And they were fall off the bone good!
  7. So sorry to hear! I didn't know Tom, but this is very sad indeed!
  8. Many years ago I was in Cincinnati on business and walked past a Chinese restaurant. They had a huge two sided sign on the sidewalk proclaiming "Prawn Dinner Special!" , The place was empty. I thought nobody in Ohio knew what a prawn was, other than the Chinese guy who found it in a Chinese to English dictionary!
  9. I could walk to my local Hobby Lobby. But after a month or so you don't want to!
  10. I was 11 and watched the news coverage! Too young! Funny story.... back when the album came out I had to have it. Probably because there was a naked couple on the cover! I remember listening to it and I had never heard of the bands or the songs. Today I can play that same album and I know all the words! ?
  11. Tom Geiger: '50 Ford Truck, 57 Nomad Progress Report: Still pluggin' on the '50 Ford between trips out to my client on the west coast. Put another coat of clear on it today. Haven't touched the Nomad yet!
  12. Very cool artwork. It's nice to know that that kind of talent is out there!
  13. I used to have an ad blocker but I suspected that it may have been one of my slow down issues, so when I reloaded the software on my laptop I didn't put it back on. I've always seen the ads on my iPhone. Some of the ads can be funny: I'm always on eBay and this past week the eBay ads were all bras and panties! Go figger! I tried to buy those Merit Badges but they didn't sell a 100 pack! I was on LinkedIn this morning so the ad is for that right now.
  14. I'm in! That's a fun recreation of your friend's old ride! Great build!
  15. Hertz trusted me with a brandy new Hyundai Velostar with less than a thousand miles on it. It drove much like my Elantra, I felt at home since controls were the same. BUT the thing that drove me wacky was the lane wander buzzer. Man oh man! What a pain in the tail. I found the shut off for it, but it was back on the next drive! I only had the car three days, so I didn't go crazy trying to eradicate it. That would keep me from buying a new one!
  16. dashboard is really nice!
  17. Thank you for defending my Aussie vocab (another abbreviation) Alan! I heard it and it stuck! I love the different takes on the English language from country to country. And yea, I probably got dizzy from you! ? For those not in the know, Alan and I have been mates for over 25 years! We were introduced by mutual acquaintances before the Internet! I had written an article on Aussie Valiants for the old Slant 6 club newsletter and I asked them to proof read it. They said they weren't qualified, but knew just the bloke! So I sent it to Alan and we became pen pals. Then he rang me up one year that he wanted to attend NNL East. I picked him up at Newark Airport and we had a great time. Last visit was 6 years ago (can it be that long!) when he and his lovely wife Ute stayed with me for a week. We did some tourist stuff like hanging with the Amish, but went to a model car swap meet in Wayne, NJ and the Liars Show on Long Island. That week one of the Liars called me to brag that a real live Australian was coming to their show! I replied, "He's sitting right here, wanna talk to him?" We had a blast! And yea, I still owe you a visit!
  18. Now that's cooool! ?
  19. I have several to many of the 1970 Chevy kit. I owned a 1:1 back in the day so whenever I'd see a rerelease cheap, I'd grab it. I bought the Fire Chief car on eBay. Upon receiving it, all the fire chief parts were missing! Seller credited me some $5 and I wound up with just another 70 Chevy. I did want to keep it just for the box art! It's up on my display shelf. (note- top shelf closest to ceiling is boxes on display since I can't get up there anyway! The rest of the shelves are unfinished projects.) Armed with fresh information from this thread, I see I have the wheels and dog dish caps, as well as the police radio, a spotlight and fire extinguisher. And interesting enough, there are a set of blue lights that I don't believe came with this kit. The kit thief kept the roof mounted lights and decal sheet. Hmmm.. since the kit is down from the shelf, maybe it's time to build it into my long lost Impala! Of course the kit will have the eternal 454 with a manual transmission! I've got to find a way to put a 350/350 into it. And a way to change the fender designation! My car did have the roof line that's in the kit, and the interior appears to be mine too!
  20. Looks like he's been away from the board since 2014.
  21. Congrats! It's great to have a name sake! I don't... I had two daughters. One of which has three daughters!
