How often do you guys do models
Tom Geiger replied to youpey's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Since the pandemic, I’ve been home a lot so I try to do something every day. Usually an hour or less, especially as I get to the end run on a model where it’s glue one piece, go wait for it to dry. There are times when I will marathon to finish something and times when I’m either frustrated or otherwise had enough. I will walk away for a couple days. For instance today I glued an engine into a chassis, and put some decals on a body. Then walked away for it all to dry. Being home I have discovered I couldn’t work on models full time! Just too much of a good thing! -
This isn’t the first time I heard of Amazon jamming a kit into a plastic mailing bag. They’re treating it like any consumer goods they sell.

Apollo 11 Astronaut Michael Collins passed away

I was in sixth grade. I remember watching it on TV, I believe we watched a taped version the next day on American Forces Network in Germany. I didn’t really follow the space program, I was all about cars, but I knew the significance of the accomplishment. I saved my Weekly Reader with it on the cover. I still have it! -

Looks great! Can’t wait to see it finished! -
About the rental car companies... they rely on 80% of their fleet being out on the road. Once everyone stopped renting they had nowhere to store them all. We belong to Nextdoor, which is a localized chat board for communities. When the pandemic was raging, a lady complained that a local church (which should have been closed by law) was having some big event, even drawing in people from elsewhere because their lot was full of out of state cars! Of course there was an outraged pile on from every Karen in town. The real story? The church was closed. A car rental company rented their empty lot to store cars!

No, just what you see here.

Last September I bought the low end Pace spray booth. It’s strong enough to use with spray cans. I’m very pleased with it. About $250 delivered. Ductwork was extra

Thanks Dan! Paint.. lighter color is Honda Silver Pearl Metallic and top is GM Storm Gray Metallic. Both are Duplicolor over their gray primer

Carl, here’s the underside. I moved the axle to the rear because it flipped backwards with the wheels in the stock position. You can see the original spring mount hole ahead of it. The kit also just has the wire axle visible underneath. I had Evergreen L shaped channel that I glued two pieces together to form a hollow beam. The wire axle is hidden inside it.

What did you see on the road today?

I was wondering what was up with that paint scheme! I thought somebody would post that it was a car from some movie and I was an idiot for not knowing! -
Is hooker central!

Just up the road from me at the ancient barn that often has interesting cars.. And that’s my Lacrosse in the background! -
You can’t tell

The kit was originally a curbside with fixed hood. It was modified in late 1960s, with the Chevy V8 from the 66 Chevy annual kit, no doubt because the tool insert was available and back then the audience was kids who either didn’t know any different or at least didn’t complain. Back then a nicely tooled six wouldn’t have been well received since everyone wanted a big engine. On the last update by Round 2 when they changed out the grille, I was told an engine tool wasn’t in the budget.

It even varies store to store in same area. I’ve found kits on clearance 10 miles away but not at my local store!

Yup. I bought a mess of spray cans for $1.57 each here in Exton PA. Bottles were 99 cents. Notice the labels are all marked “D” and you know what that stands for! Both Model Master racks.

Hi Carl- Thank you! The fenders are nothing more than adding the ones that came in the Monogram Green Hornet kit. I can take some pix of the underside tomorrow.

On Route 33 there’s a farm stand with a red 41 Chevy truck. It’s been there for years and I look for it every time I drive by. There’s some inspiration!

My latest completed project.

Nice model! Do you have photos of the original. I often get inspired like this and build replicas! -
Obviously the OP isn’t familiar with the original Revell Tri-fives.

I got back to the hobby in 1989. In the early 1990s I was building light commercial trucks and I was using the Surburbanite snow tires that came in a couple of 1970s MPC kits. It was easy to find AMC Pacers for $5 each at swap meets. I’d buy them, take out the tires, then resell them for $5. At one show a dealer had five of them.. he saw me looking and told me I could have all five for $15! So I bought them. As I was walking around with these kits a dealer friend of mine was making fun of me for buying them. Soon after someone from the AMC Pacer club contacted him, and suddenly he wanted my Pacers! Ha! I didn’t sell him a single one!
