  1. Daughter number two engaged today! She finally got it that “just my friend Matt” that she’s known forever was the one!
  2. There is something very noble and therapeutic about finishing a departed friend’s model. Good wishes
  3. It cuts nice and straight. I bought it to do this project in basswood. If you are hard on it, it will go to crooked cuts, but mine was corrected by changing the blade. It comes with attachments to do angles. You don’t get the dents in the wood like you do when cutting with an exacto.
  4. It will. Yours looks good because you know enough to paint past the panel edge. Many guys don’t and their grain just looks like someone scribbled on the panel! I tape the two edges and paint onto the tape.
  5. This thread has become more about tags than tools! Lemme change that! First up - A tool I wouldn’t be without.. my battery power drill! I haven’t seen one like this in a long while, but you can buy the Tamiya assemble it yourself one! Beats hand turning a drill bit every time! The Chopper - yes it’s a $40 plus tool, but it will serve you the rest of your modeling career. If you work with balsa or basswood or Evergreen strips on a regular basis, you need this. I set up stops on it so I can cut the same length over and over. It uses a single edge razor blade. Soft handle eXacto knife! It’s much easier on your hand than the steel barrel. Added bonus- the little wing is made from masking tape. It’s an old draftsman’s trick to keep mechanical pencils from rolling off the tilted drafting board. In our case it will keep you from stabbing your Bobbit.
  6. The wood work looks good to me! I do the same brush technique. The whole time I’m doing it, I’m thinking I’m screwing it up! Even when I’m finished it looks bad to me! Then I walk away, refocus and the next day it looks good!
  7. No worries.. when I saw it I knew somebody would comment! I built this one a couple years ago for the Corvette theme at an NNL. I did it on purpose, tongue-in-cheek. I do post the pics on boards from time to time... most folks get it but I get a chuckle when I get a tongue lashing! Which is why the plate is on the car!
  8. Absolutely! This board is a valuable resource to the magazine. Only natural to find talent here and expand posts into articles! Not everyone is on the boards.
  9. The voice of experience! I have two units like yours. Categories that started out as “Engine Parts”, expanded to drawers for individual parts like valve covers, oil pans, etc... then it went further to chrome valve covers and painted valve covers! And those drawers are full! Past that, categories graduated to small boxes.. then shoe boxes! For instance “Seats” became a shoe box that later got split into two shoe boxes... “Benches” and “Buckets”... and the beat goes on!
  10. There is also a big shortage of commercial air filters. The main plant making those was destroyed in a hurricane last year.
  11. Super! It just has that right look! Especially with the cycle fenders!
  12. Nice work Ray! I love a nice 57! People have forgotten that Ford outsold Chevy in 57!
  13. I saw! But you will need a lot more space than that!
  14. Is this what you are looking for? Another modeler sent me a small piece, found in the fabric store. I simply glued it in place and bordered it with scale rope.
  15. Very nice tutorial! Clear and concise. I’m sure it will help some folks!
  16. Pontiac Solstice... sold as Opel GT in Europe
  17. I can never leave well enough alone. I wasn’t 100% satisfied with this one so I pulled it apart to do some upgrades. Of course I managed to mess up some more stuff to fix. I finally pushed it off the bench today and took some final photos. I added tail lights and made a Red Chariot license plate. And set her for a pose with stablemate Blue Beetle.. And here’s the full set of Monogram Model A’s... so far!
  18. Got this neat little paint cart at Walmart. $15. I believe HPI guy recommended it. Snaps together in minutes. Holds 18 cans per level, total of 72 cans! The cans did wobble on the wire so i added a piece of cardboard on each shelf which did the trick! This frees up a lot of space! I do need a second one now!
  19. Where did I see this recently... A guy is following a work truck that has a huge pipe wrench on its back bumper... he follows the guy home to tell him. The guy says, “No worries! I welded it to the bumper. Nobody tailgates me now!
  20. It’s every modeler’s goal to one day see their work in a magazine! Your life is complete!
  21. Here’s my run of 1960 thru 1962.. these are pretty sad and are crying for some love! Yours is much nicer!
