Thanks Bill and I see what you mean about the window opening. I don't know if I want to change that now, now that it's painted. I appreciate your thoughts on this very much. Congrats on your 59 getting on the cover of the other mag and I still have the 59 top that you sent me and it's on my 60 that had no roof. I compared the two tops and I see the difference that you stated on your 59 build. At least my 60 has a top now thanks to you. I'll think about this window opening a lot and we'll see if I can get up the courage to change it. Dan

I'm rebuilding another glue bomb and building it as a "What If" Chevy built the hardtop like this instead of the bubble top, or, as another hardtop. The top is White and I painted the bottom Red and then overcoated that with some mixed pearls. I'll let this dry a few more days and then start the finishing process. I hope ya like this rebuild. Dan

Thanks guys for the kind words. Ron, the paint is Kustom Colors Aquarius Shift over Black and you can see Green, Blue and different colors depending on the light and how it hits the model. I love this paint. Dan

Nice build Bruce. I like your build. I agree about the decals. Like I said in my thread, a friend of mine made mine for me. I do have to find the rest of the sponsor decals to finish mine. I read somewhere that Jim Reed ran the white wheels on the left side and the black ones on the right. Dan

Thanks Bruce. That was my favorite time for NASCAR. From the 50's to the early 70's. After that, I lost interest in the 80's when they took front wheel drive cars and changed to rear wheel drive. It just isn't the same anymore. Dan

Thanks guys. The engine is just the stock flat head. I didn't want to change that and just left it alone. Dan

Great to know this John. I have seen pictures of this car with the GMC dealership on the side also. I have to get some of the other decals to finish this or make my own. Thanks for the kind words. Dan

A friend of mine has an Alps printer and he made them for me. He has a business and it's Red Pegasus Decals. He does mostly airplane decals but because of me he's starting to do car stuff. Dan

This is the AMT 36 Ford that I built as a custom. It has 57 Plymouth hub caps, banjo steering wheel and is painted with kustom colors Aquarius Shift over Black. I also lowered the rear end a scale three inches and used the drop front axle. I hope ya like it. I had fun buildin it. Dan

I built this car of Jim reeds 59 Impala which he won the 59 Southern 500 with.

Does anyone make the 62 Catalina 2dr sedan in resin? If there is one, how good is it? I want to build Royal Pontiac's drag car to compete against the Knafel Pontiac's car that I built. Thanks for any help. Dan

Thanks Bob. I enjoyed rebuilding it. I have a lot of cars that I built back in the 60's that I'm rebuilding as time allows. Dan -

AMT '65 GTO hardtop,, update,, interior done
59 Impala replied to Can-Con's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Looks good so far Steve. I like the detail that you've done on this car. I have an original kit that I built while I was stationed on Okinawa back in 67 and the top has the vinyl look already from the mold. I don't know why AMT didn't keep that look on all of the re-issues of this kit. I built one a couple of years ago as the "Tin Indian" from Knafel Pontiac in Akron Ohio and the top in that kit was also smooth. Which was Ok cause the rear car had no vinyl top. What did you use for the pieces under the hood? Looks great. Dan -

1959 Chevy Impala----Just a tease! 4/9/16
59 Impala replied to MrObsessive's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Bill, I love your 59. It looks a lot like the 1:1 that I used to own and wish I still had. I can't wait to see it done. I'm going to remember what you did to the chassis to fix the problem of the floor below the rocker panel. I have a 2 coupes and a convertible to fix now. I still have the 60 with the roof you sent me and will be building that soon. I already fixed the trunk area where the spare tire well is and installed the roof to the body and filled in the indent on the top where the chrome piece goes. Do you ever build one that is rusted s little bit? I want to build one that has gone thru a few winters here in Ohio and rusted somewhat. Dan -
Anyone want some free NNL East decals??
59 Impala replied to Tom Geiger's topic in Contests and Shows
Tom, I sent you my address back in Dec and as of yet have not received the decals. Do you need me to resend my address? Thanks in advance. Dan -
What was your first truck model?
59 Impala replied to Mike77's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Ok, here are a couple pics of the 61 Chevy. A before and after. This what she looked like before I rebuilt her. This is how she turned out. I couldn't restore her to her original condition because I almost destroyed her when I was a kid using a knife to strip off the paint. I almost thru this truck away but thought, well, maybe and I like how she turned out. I don't have any pics of the Dodge truck. It is in pieces and in a box to be restored. Thanks fer lookin. Dan -
What was your first truck model?
59 Impala replied to Mike77's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
My first truck kit was the AMT 61 Chevy pickup (which I still have), but the first big truck was the IMC Dodge L700 (which I still have). I rebuilt the Chevy and I'm going to rebuild the Dodge. There's no paint on the Dodge,so it will be an easy rebuild. Dan -
Thanks John. I have a friend who lives in the Akron area and he used to work on the "Tin Indians" of Knafel Pontiac. I like your list of Pontiac's. I'm thinking of getting the 62 2dr sedan to build Royal Pontiac's Catalina. I have the decals for this car. Dan
-
Thanks John. I might look into that kit. I'm from Akron and remember the Knafel cars. That's why I'm building some of their cars that ran back in the day. I also built a 2004 GTO as a what if if they were still in business and running drag cars. I'm looking forward to your build. Dan
-
I like this idea. I'm interested in the Knafel car fer sure. I've built 6 different Knafel cars and I'd like to see how yours comes out. Do you have decals for this car? If so, where did you get them. I'll be sure to follow this. Dan
