History of AMT & MPC's Action Line Pickup Kits
Edsel-Dan replied to Fabrux's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
I have several of these and can add confusion Some have 350 in the badge, some 400/8 Also a couple I have have different side marker lights 2 Square ones in the spot versus the to narrow rectangular stacked on most I have no idea which are AMT or MPC as they were built & box lot buys over the years got a Great deal about 66-7 years ago from an evilbay seller Big box-lot for $30.oo plus shipping--No other bidders!!!! got no less than 4 complete out o\f the box and many more cab, interior, etc And 2 Cooter's in the bunch too!!! 1 built near complete, 1 parts but restorable Just need decals!!! WHAT did they do with that tooling to cause the to re-tool the GMC shortbox stepside into the last re-issued 72 Fleetside???????? -
13" wheels in 1:24 scale. Help!
Edsel-Dan replied to Chris1992's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I do not know of any 13 inch rims in scale now But AMT use to have them in several Annuals from the early 60's Falcons, Mustangs, Tempest, even Corvairs had them You can TRY the latest issues of the 60 (formerly 61) Falcon Ranchero or 69 Corvair (Stock version not Funny Car) The Ranchero had Steelies, but from what I have read, are closer to a 14 in rim That MIGHT work out as the AMT kit is 1/25 while your Mini is 1/24 -
As I recall, The KW in the Pilot Movie for BJ & The Bear was a Flat Roof It became an Aerodyne for the series I have the AMT 1/32 scale kit set Wish they would re-issue that one!!!!!

Lindberg 72197 1/32 900 pumper fire truck
Edsel-Dan replied to forthlin's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I have a few of both Lindberg and Aurora ALFG kits The Aurora IS correct 1/32 scale, but not 100% correct in shape of the front of the cab It should match the AMT 100 series 1/25 kit more The area under the windshield should protrude more and have sharper curves at the outer edges The Lindberg kit has ALWAYS been a Lindberg kit I have the first 3 issues, 1 & 2 being cast in Red and including the electric motor you assemble yourself (If you chose to include it) The 3rd issue and latest (only #4) are both molded in white, and unlike the first 2 include chrome plated parts!! Those 2 issues also have "Vinyl" tires, though I THINK the Current one includes the original 2pc styrene ones too It is an enlarged version of their Mini-Lindy kit Yes Single Rears not duallys like an Actual ALF 900 and NO underside detail at all IF I get a couple Clear days, I can TRY to take pictures of some of my kits -
63 Ford Photo etch?
Edsel-Dan replied to Rdkingjay's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Remember that the Massachusetts Police Cruiser was a BASE level Galaxie While AMT's Promos & kits were ALL of the top of the line 500 & 500XL thus the different Script Had a LOT of fun trying to convince people on other forums that the Mayberry Cruisers were Base level Full size Fords So I KNOW what I am saying here Police, and other Fleet purchasers (ie Taxi, etc) bought the Cheapest model available!!!!! -

1:25 scale kits with figures ?
Edsel-Dan replied to 57peppershaker's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Or are they closer to 1/32 than 1/24 that the kit is suppose to be That Would be a SMALL Garbage truck based and on a Pickup, not Semi sized Straight Truck like actual trash trucks are!!! -
I remember the "Super" Mini-Lindy's too Box was larger, but Very Similar to the Small scale And Yes Box-Scale Is Correct Same as Matchbox at the time!! Though they did grow from the 50's era to the 60's and 70's Pre-Superfast era Compare an almost 1/87 60 Bonneville Convertible to the 64 Grand Prix!! or 61 Ford Fairlane Police/Fire to the 65 Custom Police/Fire I have Too many of them to miss the scale differences I do not know about a Dodge Dart, But Aurora Themselves (ie Thunderjet Slot Cars fame) had 2 Toy/Collectible versions of they Slotcar Bodies with Diecast Chassis & interior "Cigarbox" deluxe version with the Smame wheels/tires as their Thunderjet And Cheaper Wizz Wheel/Superfast type Speedline I bought a Few Case sets of Speedline at Hecht Co. MANY years ago Some of those has colors bodies like the Thunderjet, Some the colored Chrome-plated bodies I too have a Camaro I believe in Gold Chrome Also 2 each 67+T-Birds & 66-67 Toronados!! There are 1 or 2 purple Chrome in my sets, and a Pink Chrome No Blue, green or Silver (straight out Chrome) I would Love to find those in my attic or bedroom now!!!!!

1/20Would go with the Ford VAn from MPC!! And as a Family Set I too would be interested (plus I have a few of that Van!!!) As to 1/32 kits with Figures I know All of the Revell/AMT 55-56 Annualds had them And Aurora's 56 Ford Demolition Demon included Race/Demo Derby Crew Driver, Mechanic & Flagman I still have 3 Figures in the one I have left Missing 1 Wheel/tire, but otherwise complete -
Have a couple of that Jeepster too Also forgot to add Lindberg DID offer a few Newer pieces I know a ZR-1 Vette was done The Mini-Exotics from Monogram are Too small to be Mini-Lindy's Hel-Jan/Con Cor now owns (or did own) the Mini-Exacts!! The Monogram pieces were Exact 1/87 scale (or VERY close) While Mini-Lindy's are closer to 1/64 Think Plastic Kit Hot Wheels/Matchbox for Mini-Lindy I would Love to find the Eldorado & Continental Mark!!!
-

Almost All of the MPC Gangbuster kits included Figures Both Lincolns (Pheaton & Convert), Both Chryslers (also Pheaton, & Imperial Convert) too I believe the 32 Chevy lost those for the Hot-Rod parts -

Revell '66 Surburban shown at NNL-East!
Edsel-Dan replied to Art Anderson's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
I have the original issue 64 "Fleetside"( tooling design makes it more Cameo) and 2n1 65 Stepside of this tooling The 64 & 66 had the smaller white wall insert tires as in the 59/60 Impala kits The 65, and the Suburban looks to be the same, had the larger BF Goodrich Silvertown's from the 59 Cadillac kits I believe the sidewalls were bare in the 2n1 I have I need to look again, but need to Find the tires as I replaced those with Rubber Firestone Gum Dipped Darlington's (AMT Turnpiker series and some early 60's kit issues!!) I also stretched the frame and went Dually as this build got the Open Road Mini Motorhome body from the Model-King Deluxe Parts Pack kit!! -
I have the originals of both, but prefer the solid MPC G70 tire to the larger diameter hollow GT from the kits! They fit the wheel opening better in my eyes Sometimes Bigger is NOT better!!

Revell Full Detail/Glue NASCAR Kits
Edsel-Dan replied to martinfan5's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Remeber though Back when the Daytona & Superbird were Raced, The teams Got Factory Stcck (ie Showroom Ready) cars and added the rollbars etc I do not know if they used Custom Buillt chaasis for them even in the late 70's I believe that came with the Downsizing from 115 inch wheelbase to 110 for the 1981 season I Have seen A Richard Petty Superbird I Do know the Body was NOT altered very much from original Factory Showroom Spec!!! Yes it sat lower, but, Body parts would interchange with a Street version Unlike anything Current, or the Early-Mid 80's at least. Today, even the Brand Specific front clip off a nascar would NOT fit a Factory Showroom Stcck version!!! Give me back the REAL nascar!!!! -
A house full of Plastic & Die-Cast
Edsel-Dan replied to Quicksilver's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I would offer to help too But too far away, and NO way to get there LOVE that HLF 20/16 Schlingman. Too bad those German Fire Apparatus kits start at or over $100.oo now!!!! And think I see tail light 'Light-transfer' bars for either 64 Impala or Galaxie original annual kit I have a built Impala convertible needing that and the wires, contacts, etc to add the lights to! See the headlight bars too Oh well. Dreams are Free -
MPC 1970 Dodge Coronet Super Bee
Edsel-Dan replied to 1972 Satellite's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I still have most of my original Annual 70--Wish I had the hood though!! Was the grill also re-tooled?? My original has the ring (step-in) shown on the Annual box art above But the First re-issue does not have that detail I can understand the Retro-Deluxe re-issue with a Modified Original box art But Why use the 69 annual box art design on this re-issue??? Would I get another? Yes if I can afford one I would!! I do wish the Police parts were returned to the kit though!!! YES, that was how my original was built!!
