  1. Nice work John, I love the colors.
  2. It doesn't look too terrible Ray. You could always redo the spots where the foil isn't "perfect". Don't feel too bad though... a lot of us "old farts" are having more and more "issues" doing BMF work. Nice looking car though, I like the colors. Good luck finding models that don't need BMF.
  3. Welcome to our plastic playground Ernie... as a fellow LIARS member I know you'll like it here.
  4. Chris, you're doing really nice work on this car. Keep up this great job.
  5. I wish you and Amy very good luck with your packing and moving adventure John. I've moved several times over the years, with my latest move happening in 2006 from Long Island to our current home here in western PA. I hope I never have to move again. I hated all the packing of boxes, and especially packing up my models and supplies. It seems that no matter how carefully you pack and handle the built models you'll always find some of them slightly damaged or antennas & mirrors, etc. knocked off.... not a huge disaster but nonetheless annoying. One advantage though is winding up with a larger, dedicated model room/area.
  6. A "Ghost Entry" is when someone else besides the actual model builder enters a model for the builder.
  7. Nothing like making the announcement a few months early Tom...!!!
  8. Great looking car Steven. Not out of your realm at all...... you do a fine job on whatever model you build.
  9. I love '61 Buicks Steve and I'm sure you'll do your usual outstanding, bang-up job on this.
  10. Yeah, been there, done that... I've learned the hard way (as I'm sure we all do). Don't be in a hurry and don't be impatient. Give glues time to dry and set up, and give paints enough time to fully cure before putting your grubby fingers all over the body. Be sure to apply several coats of clear so you don't cut through the paint when doing the BMF work. All that being said...... I still mess up once in awhile...... and kick myself in the butt for doing it..!!!
  11. I've always been a fan of the J.C.Whitney "Bolt-On" form of mild customizing that was popular in the late 50's and early 60's. For the '58 Impala, how about a tube or tooth grille, nosed & decked, dual dummy spotlights, dual mirrors, dual swept-back antenna's, lake pipes, full length cruiser skirts, '59 Caddy taillights and a full width connie kit. I'd use the Revell kit since it has all of the chrome trim as separate pieces...... a great kit. I did mine in Black but you could use your choice of color. For the '59 Caddy, also nosed & decked, '59 Dodge Lancer spinner hubcaps (Modelhaus) (ala Larry Watson), or chrome reversed wheels, twin dummy spots, mirrors and antenna's, bellflower pipes (again ala Larry Watson), in Candy Apple Red...?? Just a couple of suggestions...
  12. I really miss being in a club. When I lived in NY I was in the L.I.A.R.S. Club and have been a member since 1992. Since I no longer drive due to peripheral vision loss after my stroke back in 2000, I can't get to any of the local club's meetings here in the Pittsburgh area. I've inquired as to whether any of the local clubs members (South Hills Modelers & Three Rivers Automodelers) live in my area, so I can "hitch a ride" but none of their members live near me.
  13. Very nice looking car Mike. That looks like a paint color/brand that I'll have to pick up.
  14. Another great loss to the Custom Car world.
  15. I've only built one woody back when the '48 Ford woody kit came out. I masked off the wood and the roof and sprayed the fenders, cowl/window frame. Then painted the wood by brush.
  16. I've bought about 15 diecast cars so far to fill in "holes" in my 1950's car collection for cars that aren't or weren't made in kit form, and there are quite a few that I still want to get as funds permit. I haven't put my own "personal touch" on all of them yet but will eventually get around to doing that. In some cases I've picked up diecasts of cars that I really didn't have a desire to build a kit of..... yeah, you can call it "cheating"...... so shoot me.
  17. That looks great Sam. Nice job.
  18. Great job as usual Ira, and congratulations on the award. It's also cool to now know what you look like.
  19. Here's a link that an old high school friend sent to me. All of the "old farts" out there should enjoy this, as I did. http://biggeekdad.com/2015/07/here-today-gone-tomorrow/
  20. Great looking car Al. You did nice work foiling the grille & bumpers, etc... that must have taken you some time to do. The first car my wife and I owned was a '67 Ford Galaxie 4 door hardtop.
  21. I went through the same thing for a couple of months in June and most of July. Lack of motivation coupled with lousy, rainy weather, etc. I'm getting back into the swing of things now that clear, sunny weather has made an appearance and put me in a better mood. Hang in there Clayton, you'll be back to your old self before you know it.
  22. Since Moebius has had such success with first the '53 Hudson, then the '52, now the '54...... Is there a chance they might even go further and make a '51...?? I know that the Hudsons don't appeal to everyone, and they might be "stodgy" looking to some modelers. IMHO, anything new from the early to mid 1950's would be cool...... Buicks, Cadillacs, DeSotos, Dodges, Lincolns, Mercurys. Nashs, Oldsmobiles, Packards, Plymouths, Pontiacs, Studebakers. We certainly have enough Chevys although a '50, '52 & '54 would be nice, along with a '51, '52, '54 & '55 Ford. We can all dream can't we?
  23. Sorry to hear of your expensive misfortune Harry. You're right about how companies really stick it to you when you're in a jam and need it now. Most of the time "we" don't think of shopping around for several estimates when we're "under the gun".
  24. That can be difficult to look at...... It kind of makes it difficult to focus on the car.... Unless it's just my old eyes..!!
