Most canvas or convertible tops that I can recall would range from a semi gloss, newer convertibles, to a flat finish usually. Period wise I would think the canvas would be on the flat side, just my thought anyway.

I also like the new color. Maroon colors along with others, were popular when this style of customs were still fairly new.

Interior looks nice. The cloth inserts that Ford used on their top line Starliner was unique but very good looking. Maybe try masking off the cloth portions and due sort of a splater paint effect.? I would try it on a plastic spoon first, just an idea.

1957 Chevy 4 door Resin Question
espo replied to disconovaman's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Thank you for the correction. I didn't have the kit anywhere handy to be sure and I somehow thought of it being a '59 body style. Obviously I was wrong. -
1957 Chevy 4 door Resin Question
espo replied to disconovaman's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
HI Jim. I'm not sure from your reply that I made myself plain enough as to what I was suggesting. As I understand it you are wanting to build a '57 Chevy 4-door 150 series ? What I was trying to suggest was to use the Resin '57 4-door 210 series body and convert that body to a 150 series car. This would give you all of the basic body that is needed with only the side trim needing to be changed. My thought was to remove the side moldings from the Resin body and use stripes of plastic to create the correct 150 trim and then glue that to the Resin body. I have done this using different sized material from Plastruct or Evergreen depending on the sizes that I could find. I think the Round 2 release of the '59 Chevy C-10 pickup may give you about as close of an engine to the'57 6 cylinder engine as is out there. -
I agree, and I'm the only person I know who thinks these little Valiants were cool looking.

1957 Chevy 4 door Resin Question
espo replied to disconovaman's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Splicing Quarters panels and doors between two different kits that may even be of slightly different shapes and scales seems like a lot of work for just the moldings. Consider removing the moldings from the main kit you're using and create new moldings out of plastic stripes. The '57 Black Widow kit would be a good guide to help setup your molding design. -
The picture is a little dark to see all of the detail, but what I see looks good. A thought on the molding painting. You mention painting the moldings and I think the semi gloss Black would be the most ideal finish for that. The outer edges of the moldings would be a chrome type finish. Would it be easier for you to paint the center of the molding and then go over the molding with chrome foil and cut away the center, or try a liquid chrome treatment for the outer edges ? Should you go with the foil option think about just doing one body panel at a time. Being right handed I usually would start with the left front fender, then the door, and then the bed side. Part of this is to keep the door edge detail and less chance of the foil bunching up and getting any wrinkles I have found.

Checkout Fireball Model Works in the Car Aftermarket Section on the forum. There is a pretty complete list of after market suppliers with links to their web sites listed thee. Fireball but one of the many listed, but I know his products are among the best and he offers a couple of different sets of wheels and tires design for what you are looking for.

Great looking interior.

Thank you for posting all your pictures. So many outstanding looking builds.

Looks great. Love El Caminos and have owned a couple. Did you paint this build or is it one of the early issues with colored plastic ?
-
I like the color and the finish looks great. With the carbs. thru the hood and the mismatched wheels you sure got the look.

Again, glad you are back Paul. I enjoy your paint work and look forward to seeing white the Impalas are going to look like.

If it should matter to you check the front fender vents on the Firebird. I think who ever started this kit mounted them up side down. Great score though.

Beautiful paint and color really show the body lines on this. I like the way you detailed the engine also.

Looks just like your personal car. The attention to details in the engine and the chassis give a great look to the model. Always special to build a model of your present or past cars.

Great body mods. I like the reversed color scheme looks good.

Beautiful looking wagon. I like the wood graining work, I also have enjoyed that on a few builds. This looks like the body might have been based on the old Revell kit that was offered with a multi part body.

Beautiful looking Caddy and the paint color looks great. Very clean trim and moldings.

You're off to a great start.

Great looking photos. I liked the front end treatment on the Chevrolet Panel with the later model passenger car front bumpers and the '55 style headlights and hood emblem. I noticed a real nice looking red Chevy pickup toward the end. -
