Vintage Kustom Car footage!
espo replied to Joe Handley's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Thanks for the memories. Based on the yellow license plates this must have been taken prior to 1963 when California went to the black background and yellow lettering. Liked the Pin Striping and the dummy Spotlights. -
‘21 Dodge Charger chassis color?
espo replied to shoopdog's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I have owned both a '10 Charger RT 5.7 Hemi engine with AWD and my present car is an '18 Charger GT which is basically a 6-cylinder 8 speed auto trans with most of the SRT electronic and suspension features plus AWD. The '10-year model was the Steel Cities Gray body color and the bottom of the unibody was a flat light gray color and the various suspension parts were a natural flat aluminum finish or a light coat of a flat black on many other parts. The present '18 Charger is painted White Knuckle, and the underside is a similar shade of light gray with only a very few hints of white overspray. I don't know if the underbody area color is different on Chargers painted another color than these. Hope this may help with what you are looking for. Maybe find a Charger somewhere and the owner will let you take some pictures of their chassis. -
What did you see on the road today?

I'm listed as an organ doner on my driver's license, but they're going to have to wait until I'm thru using them, and my driving habits aren't going to be the reason they get them. -
Heard a ruckus outside last night. Opened the back door to better hear what was going on. The local Coyotes were calling each to other. My wife said the new neighbors were asking a lot of questions about it on the local neighborhood web site. She told them to make sure any small dogs or cats were inside. Living on the edge of the prairie can be interesting at times.

68 Dodge P/U - Show & Tow

Excellent body fabrication and the finished work looks realistic. The paint color and finish look great as does the interior. Like the engine detailing. -
Did this to replicate a 1950 Oldsmobile used by the California Highway Patrol. Used the Revell '50 Olds's kit as a base and used some decals I had from a long-closed supplier. The spotlights and rear package tray lights that were the fog lamps in the Galaxie Chevrolet kit. The radio equipment is from a Revell '57 ford wagon kit.

Great attention to even the smallest little details.

Drivers like that are known as organ doners. Hopefully most of the organs are still reusable when this brain surgeon gits done with them. -
Thankyou Jeff. I also used the pearl green on a Ranchero build a few years ago with much the same results as well.

Thanks Don. Been wanting to try a roof treatment like this for a while. The blower was to replace the carbs I had robbed out of this kit. Thank you.

Beautiful paint color and clean body trim. Better keep the Traction Control on when driving in the snow.
-
Great looking paint color and finish. The vinyl roof treatment looks good. The L88 style hood and the engine work well together.
-
Beautiful looking paint finish and a agree with you on the green color being the best looking. With the smooth body lines, you would never realize all that had to be done to get them that way. Great looking body and window trim.
-
The roof shape looks better than most chopped tops in that it in proportion with the body. Since I don't recall ever seeing a kit of a '35 Ford that makes this very interesting. The stance along with the wheel and tires look perfect for this.
-
Great looking two-tone treatment, and like the way you ended the paint color on the front and rear fenders. The trim looks nice and cleanly done. The engine and chassis detailing has some nice color details.
-
Great looking paint color and finish. The soft top option looks correct as does the finish. Like the engine detailing and the original overall look of your build.
-
All of the body lines flow smoothly, especially around the rear quarter windows and the back window. Like the look without the drip rails.
-
Like the stance and your design ideas.

Hi Bob, Glad you liked it. The color actually has a little more sparkle in person than in the pictures. For the engine I tried to stay with the OEM colors. Hi Tim, Thank you for your compliments. The roof treatment is a first-time experiment for me and something I had been wanting to try. The wheels and tire are a second choice as I was going to use some wider tires until I found that I would have to do too much to the wheel wells to make them fit. As I mentioned I had robbed the kits intake for another build long ago and I had the blower and side drafts setup off of an early '57 Chevy kit and it just does clear the hood. There was a time when even Hot Rods could be seen with some sort of roof paint treatment and that is what I was trying to do.

Having also owned a couple of '57 Fords in the past I share your appreciation for the subject and like how you did your three builds. Your Gold hardtop is really well done knowing some of the idiosyncrasies of that kit. A friend of mine had a 1:1 with many of the same styling Q's as your build back in the early '60's. Your paint color and finishes look great, and I like how you posed the passenger seat for display. Your Lavender Mainliner Tudoor is much the same as a White Tudoor I had with a 312 and 3-speed Overdrive at that same time. Like how you flipped the rear bumper and did the taillights. What engine did you use since the distributer location looks like a FE block maybe? The two-tone Fairlane 500 paint treatment has a nice OEM look and matching interior. The chrome wheels set it off well. I can tell this is an FE Ford engine and they would bolt right in using '58 Ford engine mounts.

Great looking paint finish and trim.

Of 1957 Chevy Bel Air's - 2024, which to buy?
espo replied to Jonathan's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Your decision on which kit to base your build on may came down to how important the body style is too what you're intending to build. The Revell kits, Bel Air and Black Widow, are both pillared, having a "B" pillar, as well as a Convertible model that was issued in the recent past. The AMT kit being reissued by Round 2 seems to be based on their Street Machine version as mentioned by Tony. This was originally offered as a stock Bel Air with a dual quad engine option, but this version has not been issued for some time but seems to be available at swap meets. The main feature to look for to identify these kits is the opening trunk feature. Another earlier AMT kit that has been reissued in several style options was first released in the last century, but still is a nice kit with some inaccuracies that may or may not matter depending on your building goal. While most of the body trim represents a Bel Air hardtop the side chrome moldings are off a little on the door and quarter panel. The Bel Air side trim for the rear quarter panel is represented by a decal. One advantage, to me anyway, is the ease of making a 210 model since the side is smooth and you would only have to shorten the trim on the top of the rear fins to represent the 210-body style. The base engine is a small block Chevrolet with the option of a W motor Chevrolet engine with an optional super charger. Any one of these kits are fun and basically easily built into whatever you're trying to do.
