Revell 1964 Chevrolet Impala SS (USA made) kit build.
espo replied to addicted2modeling's topic in WIP: Model Cars
The chassis is very nicely done. Your shocks seem to be going thru the floor. Was this the way the kit was set up or something you did because of the lowered suspension ?? -
I would mock up everything and just see if you even have a problem before cutting the wheel wells. The picture depicts a car with wheel wells that have been enlarged . Most race sanctioning bodies required the tires to be within the body or fenders. This can change according to the class the car is designed to run in. Since you intend to use the larger tires from the Dragster you may have to do a little surgery on the wheel opening. As I recall this kit already has the narrowed frame and differential. You may be abele to make some small adjustments with the rear end to get the larger tires on and stay within the fenders. Another option would be to flare the rear wheel openings slightly. Either way please keep use posted on your build.

Thank you for sharing. I'm always impressed by the variety as well as the quality of these builds. The big rigs get a lot of attention and the level of detail is outstanding. I could spend hours studying the dioramas.

The things that bother me while grocery shopping. #1 Women that park there carts in the middle of the isle turned sideways roadblock fashion then wonder off down the isle, and don't you dare try and move their cart they start trying to say you're trying to steal their purses. #2 People who fall into a trans while looking at the shelves. #3 People standing with the door wide open in the frozen food area. They stand there so long the windows all fog up and you can't even see in and half of what's there has thawed out. #4 Women who think it's just fine to jump into the 8 to 10 item line with their cart overflowing because THEY are in a hurry and NO ONE else is as important as they are. #5 People who park their cars in the lot much the way they park their carts in the isles. They look more like they were abandoned than parked. Did you know that it is possible to get a Prius to cover parts of three parking spots ?? I have seen it done more than once.

Very nice looking 300. Is that the kit grill or did you rework it ?? Now all you need is one of the Charger kits to complete your Mopar garage.

Very nice, I like the wide white walls.

The finish on this is outstanding. The interior looks perfect. -
Very clean looking build.

Great find it and looks to be in almost perfect shape. I also think it was done by AMT. I think they were still doing Promos for most of the major manufactures. These were often offered in a simplified version that was a basic promo kit. I purchased a fully detailed Falcon kit in I think '67. The kit was the old 3 in 1 format and I built it as a Drag Racing version. That kit included the option of large cut out rear wheel openings and Slicks. The kit included a small block, 260 or 289, Ford engine with several different induction set ups. Later in life I always thought it would be nice to have a basic stock Falcon or a day two version.

Beautiful looking build. A lot of very fine detail work. Those wheel well opening moldings are a bear to get right.

Thanks. I have a built Monkeey kit I got as a door prize years ago. While it was built to a high standard I think I would like to do something different with it. Your wagon idea looks appealing so I'll be watching your build.

Great looking save.

A 2 bbl big block intake manifold sounds like a big truck part. The Big Block was offered in many large trucks with 366, 396, and 427 displacements.

I like the wagon conversion idea. What did you use for the basic roof shape ??

I'm just blown away with this paint work.

What did you see on the road today?

In the photo there appears to be some sort of wiring going from the drivers drip rail to the trunk lid and even something dropping down to the gas cap ?? -
Bare metal foil and dull cote

Good advise. I have used Q-Tips and a worn tooth pick for the foil edges. I haven't run into that problem so I have been lucky. -

Bare Metal Foil is also offered in a flat aluminum finish also. You might consider buying a sheet if you're doing many builds with this type of finish. You apply it just like the Chrome finish and it is very realistic looking. -
One thing I find interesting about old letters and cards like this, look at the penmanship. The card on the lower right is almost going too calligraphy. The one on the upper left has an interesting picture on the front.

Revell offered a basic Caprice Police kit at one time. They also had a wagon I think that could be converted into a '57 looking styling or as a panel.

Man I hope someone remembers to post some pictures.

I have gotten preformed pipe wrapping at Home Depot. They carried it in the section with Hot Water Heaters. The foam comes in a couple of different interior diameters and the slit along the side even had an adhesive strip to hold them together after installation.

Amazing work here. I have learned a lot about taping things off for paint work watching what all you have done on these builds.
