ยด69 Corvair Convertible - inspired by Steve Stanford
espo replied to Koellefornia Kid's topic in Model Cars
Very well done conversion. I'm about half way thru a build of this same kit. A Lambo V-12 would be exotic I'm doing a simple Corvette LS and Transaxle conversion. I like how you used the 140 H.P. engine and the K&N style air cleaners. With the stance, wheels and beautiful paint work this is really a great looking build. -
2020 Family Truckster !

One of the big reasons you see mostly loaded 4-door trucks in dealers stock, MORE MARKUP. Fewer and fewer people order their new vehicles anymore. We all seem to need instant gratification no matter what we are doing or buying. Thus when you go into a dealership all you see is a sea of 4-door trucks with equipment you didn't even realize you needed. After the initial sticker stock with the dealer offering you a discount and rebate package it may not seem so bad. If all a dealer stocks is these behemoth trucks than that is what everyone is forced to buy. About your only choice is color. I have had to order everyone of our vehicles, with only 2 exceptions, since the '90's. the inventory situation at dealerships has gotten worse over an extended period of time. I have know idea where it will all end up, but if they don't do something about the appearance of todays trucks I hope they aren't banking on me buying one anytime soon. -
While I said "not funny" it wasn't because I failed to see the humor, I just feel that in the circumstances we see all to often in todays world it would just be best left unsaid.

The last few years I have noticed that a lot of commercial vehicles have all of their company information and advertising done with a wrap instead of paint . Besides protecting the body paint it would make their trucks much more saleable when decommissioned for resale. For the last ten years we have had all of our cars front sheet metal and headlights covered in a clear wrap and they all look almost as good as new after 100k miles. The last one we didn't do was our '98 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP. The nose of the car was so pitted from "road rash" that we almost had to paint it to sell it. KDOT and local municipalities use so much grit on the roads during the winter months that it gets to be like driving in a sand storm when the snow melts and this just destroys the paint finish on the leading edge of a car or truck.

You should really try and get out more. Just kidding.

Another beautiful looking Ford for your garage. I followed your build and agree that adding a link might help someone who didn't see what all you have done better appreciate your build. In the photos the Blue is so dark that unless you view the photos showing the metallic in the paint you would think it is Black.

Great looks restoration.

What did you see on the road today?

Now that's what a truck should look like instead of the monstrosities in the market place today. -
The future of offroading?
espo replied to iamsuperdan's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
These will end up like so many other such SUV's in the market today. The only off road experience most of these will ever see is if they jump the curb at the Soccer field parking lot or run over a subcompact at the Mall parking lot. -
The early Revell offerings of the tri-five Chevrolets were a real mixed bag. Revell went out of its way to offer what at the time was a very advanced and highly detailed kits. They were a little fiddly and that may have hurt them with less experienced modelers. The unfortunate part in my mind is that in trying to offer all of the great details they lost sight of some of the body proportions. The front fenders and especially the hood and grill come to mind. I still have all three, '55 - '56 and '57, and had started the '57 years ago. This was as I recall the most accurate at the time.

2020 Family Truckster !

I don't understand the truck designs of today regardless of manufacture. They all have started to look more like the Tonka Toys that my sons used to play with. Were I in the market today to buy another pick-up I would be looking at much older more appealing designs. To be PC incorrect, if I had a dog that looked like these new trucks I would shave his bottom and teach him to walk backwards. -
50 Ford Pick Up .

Very nice looking pick-up. Would love to have a 1:1 like this and if you could afford the Arden heads that would be perfect. -
K&N Cone style Air Filters
espo replied to stavanzer's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
I have gotten some from Scale Dreams in both the round and oblong styles. I would check the suppliers listed on this Forum as many offer some really great looking Air Cleaners. -
Really nice looking Camaro. Looks almost to nicely trimmed to call it a Plain Jane. If in the future you need a single 4-barrel carb. for a small block the "69 Nova SS kit has a nice single 4-barrel and the correct cast iron stock exhaust manifolds.

Very nice well detailed build. The addition of the side trim adds to the realistic look. Paint finish is nice and smooth and I like what you did with the wheels .

1960 Chrysler Imperial Coupe, 12/6, Outdoor Pics Added.
espo replied to StevenGuthmiller's topic in Model Cars
Beautiful looking restoration. We didn't see to many of these in my neighborhood growing up. I like how you did the Stainless panels on the roof and no "Toilet Seat" on the trunk. That was an unfortunate styling misstep that Chrysler used much to often at this time period. -
I like the color combination and the wheels.
-
They both look great. We're getting close to that time of the year when everyone posts pictures of their builds for the year. I'll only have a few this year, I've let the conversion I've been working on for too long get the better of me.

If you haven't yet found the 4-speed shift pattern you wanted for the shift knob look in the Revell '62 Impala and Impala SS kits.
-
Great looking paint finish and colors. Tucking the bumpers is a good idea and makes the body look much lighter without the overhang on the front.
-
I like the detailed suspension and body protection bars. You even have the struts and wires for the wing. This is one of those builds that the longer you look at it the more you see what was done.

I have one question: have you ever just built a model to represent a vehicle as it rolled off the showroom floor ?? I have enjoyed your well worn looking models for some time, and the "patina" style of building has always looked great. I like how once in a while you would have a little back story to explain what your build represented. With this saga you have outdone your self with the builds and the story. Thankyou for the morning laughter, great way to start a day.

I don't think Jeep has even released the JL 2-door as of yet. I'll be hanging onto our 2-door JK for the foreseeable future.

Only when what ever your working on doesn't work or function as it's supposed to. Then I read the instructions.

Chevy 3100 curbside
espo replied to Ryansrust6's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
I like the look and the stance. I also wonder if it is a Die Cast. The reason is what looks like a long-bed body and the side mount spare tire. Did the dish slots come with it??
