  1. I like your idea of just a clean slightly modified build. A thought on the paint and only if I fits with your vision. Hurst Corp. did a lot of modified Olds back in the day and part of that was some additional paint treatments in Black or a contrasting color. They would use the bodies chrome moldings as a dividing line and paint the Hood and top of the Fenders Black or another color and use the molding to end the color where it ends at the top of the side window openings. I also have seen a similar treatment on the Trunk Lid again following the moldings where they loop around the top of the rear window.
  2. I'm glad to see you are back on this restoration. I noticed some excellent mountings for the interior and the rear window mountings give me an idea for a build I'm working on now. I was having a hard time figuring out how to mount the rea window and side windows on a resin body. Your pictures clearly show how to do that, thank you thank you.
  3. Great looking build. You mentioned the Mustang side emblems that were deleted on the Shelbys, by just painting over them as you did they really aren't noticeable in the photograph. The only thing I would suggest and only if it even matters to you is the photo shows a white convertible boot and the model depicts a blue boot. Again only if it makes a difference to you since it doesn't really take anything away from your build in my mind.
  4. Look forward to any updates on this build. Outstanding work on the wagon and especially the boat.

    '50 Olds

Great color combination and the finish is perfect. I like your idea of hinging the trunk and hood from the side since you're going with the Low Rider theme .
  6. The chop looks perfect, not overdone.
  7. It looks like you have the basic De Soto body pretty well sorted out. On the engine you might look at any of the later MoPar kits with the 383/440 engine that could easily be made to look like the De Soto engine. As for the 2-4 set up I think any inline 2-4 set up from say even a Hemi could be modified. I did something on this order on the AMT '58 Plymouth and used the 2-4 set up from the AMT '57 Chrysler 300C. This included the unique air cleaners also so it looked very real in that application.
  8. Great looking build. I like it better in black also. Amazing how a few touches under the hood wake up the engine compartment.

    70 CHARGERs

Your color choice really shows the body lines nicely. Great job on the chrome foil, those wheel well openings are a bear and yours look perfect.
  10. Very nice well detailed build. I like the murals under the hood and trunk lid.
  11. Your two builds really capture the appearance of the 1:1 Citation. As Ace-Garageguy pointed out these vehicles in the real world had their short comings. I drove a new X-11 with a manual on two occasions. The Torque Steer when shifting under hard acceleration was down right dangerous. Going up a long on ramp I shifted into 3rd and the car almost changed lanes on me. You could be driving at 50 mph plus and feel the steering wheel turn left on acceleration and right on deceleration.
  12. Beautiful build along with another signature paint job. I also appreciate your respect of the original subject. This model reminds me of a car I would often see in the summer of '56 where I was living in Southern California. The neighbors daughter was dating a young man with a new '56 Ford that looked just like this only with the Customline trim. I remember he had very low rumble sounding glass packs that you almost wouldn't notice unless he got on it. It had the three speed on the column with Overdrive. He always kept it shined just like your pictures.
  13. I like the Rail Road vehicle idea, never would have thought of that.
  14. Jay Leno used t have a skit he would do on his show using the gas station across from his studio. They had a comedian on the pump TV talking to the people pumping gas. He would get them to start talking to him and it usually turned out pretty funny.
  15. With one exception I believe that almost everything will interchange between the kits. The only minor problem will come about switching frames and interiors. The '49 coupe has a shorter floor board because of the body style and the frame portion of the floor boards are longer so that they match up. If you go to the '50 Convertible the interiors floor boards are longer and the frames portion are shorter. The interiors are different lengths but the seats and dashes all inter change. Not a big deal and easily changed as needed.
  16. Beautiful save on this kit. I was one of the few that liked the Edsel at introduction. I always thought their styling was strange but in a good way.

    71 Cuda

Great looking build. The extra detailing with fuel lines, hoses, and cables add to the appearance.
  18. That's a shame, it looks like a very well done model. I had one but never built it since I thought the body was just to fiddly to deal with. Best '56 Olds Fiesta hub caps as I recall.
  19. The first ones look like something from the early '60's era Meteor's. The second ones look like a poor reproduction of the '49 on Mercury.
  20. As Mikemodeler mentioned the Tall hood looks like the 1:1 4" or 6" hood offered in fiberglass. The one you usually see is what they refer to as the 2" hood. Either way they only real problem I see is with the area between the back edge of the cowl hood and the windshield. In your picture the hood appears to be too close to the windshield. I think if you look at some pictures of say '69 Camaros with the factory cowl induction hood you'll have a better idea of just how it should work. Remember this hood was designed by Chevrolet when it was competing in the SCCA Trans Am series and that is they main reason for it. It was so well received by car guys that they started offering on other models, but the original Z-28 hood was designed to draw the maximum air from the air build up at the base of the windshield.
  21. Very nice looking build and the Full Wheel Covers look perfect. I don't think anyone knows why Revell used the six lug wheels on the Bel Air. They put the correct wheels in the Black Widow kit and may have thought that all "57 Chevy's had six lugs, who knows. They had the perfect wheel from the '56 210 that they could have used. I know the '56's had 15" wheels and the '57's had 14" diameter wheels, but have you ever put the two wheels side by side ? The '56 wheels are the same diameter as the '57 wheels just 1 less lug nut. The tires are the same also, but just take a 1:1 7.50x14 tire next to a 6.70x15 and you will realize the difference. So as they say in hand grenades and horse shoes it's close.
  22. I like your concept and the IRS looks very impressive. I look forward to the rest of your build on this.
  23. Great looking car, but are you 100% sure it's a Hell Cat ?? The reason I ask is that several of these with the 392 Hemi, not Hell Cats, are in my area and they have that same side markings. I think either MoPar or some other after market suppliers are offering the lookalike decals. Still like it. Saw a black one with a very dark gray decal the other day and you only notice the "cat" at just the right angle.
  24. Some of the finest castings out there. Very little clean up needed.
  25. Nice looking build. That Bag of Snakes Exhaust is a bear to get together.
