Very nice looking build. The story and your father's connection makes it even better. Much like the tow truck driver in your story I remember a YouTube video some time ago. The video was shot in a mountains area with a very sharp turn. In this case someone in a 3 series BMW had lost control in the corner and landed on it's side. The tow truck shows up and hooks onto the BMW. The operator forgets to set the hand brake on the BMW before he rights the car and when it is upright the hook comes off and the BMW makes a hard left turn over the edge and goes end for end into the tree tops in the ravine below. The audio has a lot bleeps in it.

Very clean looking build. The color contrast between the body and interior really standout. Is the top done as a Vinyl covered top ?? I think this was an option at that time.

I like your conversion work on the wood trim. The tail lights look in the picture as if they extend to far back, but since you have a 1:1 car to measure from it may just be the picture. In the 1:1 world this is an easier conversion than I would have thought. Your post reminded me of a short article in the Nov. '17 issue of Street Rodder magazine. A "Merc Guy" converted a two door Ford wagon into a "54 Mercury. He made it look showroom stock and might give you some perspective on your build. He did it without wood trim but it looks factory to me.

The paint is very smooth and the "flake" in the paint is intense but I think it looks good. You weren't building a showroom model anyway.

As to what it's worth, that would be what someone is willing to pay. Not sure of your personal interest in modeling as a whole or attending model shows, but a thought if you should want to show your model. One it is in excellent condition and I would suggest leaving it as is. Two you have the box that it came in. While that fact isn't that special I think the fact it was mailed by Ford to your father in law as unusual. Since he was a modeler this may have happened at his request or Ford had a special promotional thing at that time. Usually dealers would order a case or two from the manufactures with a mixed batch of models to hand out as they saw fit. If you were to show it at a model show I would include the box in the display. The information molded into the frame and floor boards was the norm at that time on Ford models and Promos and I think it might of even been part of the licensing agreement between Ford and the Promo makers. This type of information was not seen on the GM and Chrysler Promos of that time. Then again you and your wife may have an emotional attachment in which case I would preserve it.

All of the extra effort on detailing the mechanics of the model really paid off. I think that after you use the pen on your chrome you'll start using it on everything. I'm going back and redoing all the models where the chrome comes off every time you touch the bumpers.

Beautiful build. The extras that you added like the roof rack an interior really are great. I like all the red suspension bits, some wild angles on the universal joints. To bad the engine is covered I'm sure it's just as nice.

Great cruiser, smooth paint and perfect stance. Then you lift the hood and you see why Fords were First on Race Day instead of Found On the Road Deserted. Perfect induction system.

I also like the Sleeper concept. This is much better than stripes scoops and words allover the body the body of an otherwise standard car. Great body work altering the wheel base and width of the body.

You lucky dog you. I personally like the post two doors to most hardtops, and a '50's thru '60's Olds, Pontiac, or even a Buick just look great to me. While the paint job seems to be a big stumbling block for you at least it looks to be in decent shape for now. Depending on what you plan to do and how much you can afford at this time at least it looks very presentable going in. This will give you time to address the engine issues and what ever else you may find. I think the open grill looks good, and what a set of Olds Fiesta hub caps would do great.

I agree with CabDriver, post as you go. Sometimes you will make discoveries that you can share that will help others, and when problems arise you can ask for and receive suggestions. This resin body has always been interesting to me but I just have to many others right now to add this one, so I look forward to what you do with it.

All of the custom features of the day. I always liked the cover over the back seat and folded top. This also made it less drafty if you didn't have extra passengers. I remember guys doing this on hardtops also covering the back seat and sometimes a pattern in the meddle. Your wheel and tire combo is very much keeping with the '60's.

The engine sets down in there perfectly, or did you do a lot of surgery? The hood looks like it would almost clear the top of the intake manifold. The wheels look good if not a little oversized for the body, could be hard to turn. Very smooth body work and paint.

I like your wide body AWD Rabbit idea. The Scirocco is very interesting, can't remember one of these being done in the recent past.

I like your roof idea and plan to watch what all you do with this build. While minor at this point I hope to see you do something with the shape of the windshield opening on the transplanted roof. I'm thinking of the windshield mounting on the sides and top, they seem very heavy looking.

Don't forget to post pictures for those of us that can't make it.

The Ramcharger is a good pick for a tow vehicle. I have not built this kit but it looks interesting. The Airstream is what I'm really interested in, is it a kit ? or a die cast ??
