Site Update Complete
JollySipper replied to Dave Ambrose's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
It's not from the site, I guess, but from my browser...... It's a "Web Push" thingy from FireFox........ What do I do with it? -
Site Update Complete

I keep getting an option to "receive notifications from this site" from my browser...... Can I make it stop popping up? Will it interfere with me getting email about PMs? -
1960 ford starliner update pics of exhaust and motor.
JollySipper replied to 426 pack's topic in WIP: Model Cars
These cars look really sharp in black! I'm just wondering..... have you ever tried Bare Metal Foil? The chrome pens are kinda expensive, I like to save mine for interior trim like handles and such. If you have steady enough hands to do the chrome down the fins, then foiling will be a breeze! When I was young, we had a '60 Fairlane 500..... They don't have the bubble top that these cars have, more of a sedan roof........ -

Mock-ups look pretty cool! The car you have pictured is called "May Cause Dangerous"......... built by Gambino Customs for Kirk Jones. I've looked all over and can't find pics of anything other than the exterior and interior, no chassis pics....... looking forward to progress..........! -

Hey, Cale.... since you're going with a modern motor, are there any modern wheels that you like? Something more Resto-mod would make for a nice theme! -
A custom from the Batmobile?
JollySipper replied to JollySipper's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
A bubble top and fins? Whatever you build from them sounds like it should be cool! I've been thinking how the little light pods on the "roof" of the Batmobile might look as tail lights on a '37 Ford........ -
A custom from the Batmobile?

Something along these lines is what I'm interested in, tho this was built from a Futura...... Also, if anyone has used just parts of the Batmobile in a build, I would love to see it...... -
A custom from the Batmobile?
JollySipper replied to JollySipper's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Yep, sure did...... thanks, tho....... Barris got a hold of it and rui......... er, um, ..... changed it to the Batmobile. Just brainstorming and looking for inspiration..... -
Hey, Guys...... Have any of you taken a '66 Batmobile and made some sort of custom from it? I have this idea that the front end would make for a cool rear end treatment on something like the '62 Buick, or along those lines....... Just wondering if any of you guys have had a similar idea, and how it might look.......... Thanks!

I'm enjoying hearing and seeing the Osprey air craft flying over this evening.... I believe they do touch-and-gos at the local airport, which is about a mile from here.......

Explain camshaft specs to me........
JollySipper replied to JollySipper's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
I once had an early '80s S-10 with a 305..... it couldn't get out of it's own way. Whoever did the engine swap left the single muffler exhaust, and put on something like a 750 cfm Holley carb! It sounded good at idle, tho, with it's big, lopey cam........... -
I've found a way to get perfectly straight trim on bodies foiled. I simply eye-ball how wide a piece of foil I need, use a metal straight edge to cut the foil while it's still on the sheet, being sure to make the piece long enough to handle, then just place on the body and burnish down....... That's how I did most of the trim on this car........ You still have to cut to length, but that's easy enough...... Anyways, hope someone finds this helpful!

You say he's learning IT? How about if Mr. Ambrose could take him under his wing, let him learn the forum software.......... That would be completely up to Dave, of course......

Explain camshaft specs to me........
JollySipper replied to JollySipper's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Thanks, Bill! There is some very good info in those links, written where the average person can understand it........ I'm wondering..... you said a higher lift camshaft doesn't operate well at lower RPMs. Could you maybe "cheat" by using a milder cam, but with solid lifters that you could push to higher revs to get more out of it? -
I know what over-lap, lift, and duration are, but the specs are always confusing to me. I don't understand what a performance cam measurements would be compared to a more mild cam. Could you guys maybe give examples of, say, a street profile versus an all-out top fuel camshaft? Thanks!

That's the Black Widow kit, right? I've been thinking of doing one as a custom, too...... This should be awesome to watch!

Anyone know a Bill Stillwagon?

I LOVE DupliColor products! It's pretty much all I'll use for bodies. I have my technique down to where I can get nice slick paint with it.......... This is all DupliColor, primer, color, and clear......

Hey, Brenan..... Looking at pics of your truck, I think this is what I might would try. Dry sand the whole body with something like 2000 grit paper, making sure to not sand hard enough to get down to bare plastic. Then while the whole body is covered with dust, spray a coat of dull coat over everything. that should seal the rust, and the sanding will blend everything nicely......
