IF I remember correctly, the Tamiya kit can be built wtihout the hubcaps. Those would be pretty cool, especially if you know how to widen them. The screen raced Herbies uses a 356 engine in them, back in the old days that was the equivalent of a 1700cc.

Where are the new Volkswagen models?
Zarana-X replied to red04gli's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
You'd think there would be a kit of the newer GTIs, R34, new new Beetle or Scirocco, I'm looking forward the upcoming MKI Golf GTI from Revell, but I'd be interested in any air-cooled models if they would re-do them. Its a crime there were never any kits of a Type 3 or 181. -
Excellent work! the color looks lovely. The kit itself looks much better than I was expecting.

I've got a MkII Supra Mad Police car I need to finish up. Also, I have Rook Bartley's Alpha Fighter about 1/3 finished. Havn't done anything productive since late August. That didn't stop me from buying more styrene with my Christmas spoils. I exchanged a dodgy little RC copter at Hobby People (with no receipt!) for a Tamiya Mk4 Supra and 2 tubes of cement. I got the copter at a work gift raffle. It looks like it would be fun for about 10 minutes, till it broke Used some Amazon giftcards to get the Revell re-issued 1980 Datsun 4x4 pickup. Then I got the Fujimi MkII Supra and Trueno Corolla from the Togue series. I need to copy parts from the Supra to replicate for the police car.

More detail on the carbs would be nice, but I haven't seen an OEM kit yet that makes detailed side drafts, so I can live with this. The Tamiya Lamborghini Countach LP500s has some pretty good side draft Webers. You'll have to cut them out of the valve cover/intake top part of the motor, and make aircleaners or velocity stacks for them. Each kit will give you 6 carbs at least. I had two glue bombs from when I was kid and this kit was cheap.

Use clear orange (Tamiya) for the turn signals, and use Future with a dab of white acrylic paint for the headlamps. A wash on the wire wheels will do wonders. Pop them off, or do one side of the car at a time, so it dries level. You can use india ink, or watercolor paint mixed with Future. Its easy to clean up if you get it on too thick, or mess up.

Pretty good so far. Be sure to paint in the window trim, its too noticeable on a light colored car. Paint in the Ford emblems on the grille and wheels. A good wash will add some depth to the wire wheels, as well as the rest of the car. Maybe polish the center of the windows to simulate where they were wiped clean to see after work on the car started.

Rotary Tool Suggestions

Multi-speed is the only way to go. I learned as a kid on an antique single speed, that single speed sucks, and melts styrene. -
I've had the same issues on Internet Explorer/ Windows 7, I've started using Google Chrome, and it works fine. The only reason I even still use Internet Explorer, is because my bookmarks. There's a way to import them, but IDK what I'm doing.

I really don't think my skill level could match what I saw in the finals, but I did forget to submit photos for the finish line deadline, anyway.

That mold had it back when I last bought one in 1990. I had an old damaged one given to me, cast in ivory plastic, and it was a pretty noticeable difference.

So, it's pretty much confirmed this is a 1980 pickup.

Excellent work! The weathering looks really good.

I've never seen this kit, but you've done a fantastic job. Looks clean enough to eat off of. The Interior is really nice. Did you cut out the holes on the inside of the door?

I actually hate Led Zeppelin. I've found it's not a popular opinion . They have a few good songs, but they have a lot of horrible songs as well. I don't know the exact names, but something about dancing days, and the one that breaks down into a congo line. Overall, I feel the band is over rated and given too much credit. Also, from what I've read, they're horrible people, as well. I also hate Great White and Whitesnake, but either Jack or Dave could probably stand in for Plant if they wanted to do a tribute type show..

Nice start. Can't wait to see how it turns out.

Fantastic work. Looks shinier than an original paint job, otherwise I'd be fooled it was real.

I have the Hasegawa Gran Prix version. I've yet to build it, but I looks incredible. My parents had a '72 when I was growing up, so I know the car pretty well. The racing versions are basically the stock car body, with the the parts to modify it into a race car, so you could build a modified, stock street racer out of them if you were inclined. -
This is going to be awesome! I started one with the old Revell kit years ago and gave up.

I got an unopened 10 pack of Pactra olive drab in 1991. I think they were from at least the early 70's. I have a 1972 issue of Model Car Science, and the bottles look like one in a b&w photo from the magazine. The bottles have brown lids, and a red and white label. The printing (paint color) on the label looks like it was put on with an old printing machine, as it looks embossed. The needed a lot of stirring, but I used several, gave some away, and still have 2 bottles.
