  1. '68-'70 had the "tombstone" shaped taillights, '71-'72 had slightly larger tombstone shaped tailights with a reflector on the side of the housing, or in their abscence, two holes like on the green car. The crescent vents behind the rear 1/4 window are telltale signs of a '71 and up car.
  2. Looks like something that would be done on a demonstration car.
  3. All the new Lincolns look like ugly electric razors with those grille designs.
  4. The draft tube is on part 6, in step #4. What they dont show is the rubber valve at the end. It looks like a straight fish mouth. Most cars dont have the rubber piece anymore... I honestly didn't know what that long bar was, but the tow hitch makes sense. You never see thermostats anymore, and I was kinda joking.
  5. Neat. I like that it has the horn and a proper firewall. Whats the assembly in step 51? The thermostat?
  6. Nice job resurecting that junkyard dog!
  7. Your build and engine look great so far. While not your fault, those taillight housings seem kinda off with that "flange" around the base. Maybe it's supposed to be the seal, but it looks too big for that.
  8. Yeah, that's rediculous. I'd cut it at the rear of the wheelarch.
  9. "You were only supposed to blow the bloody doors off!" The kit looks great, but I still have 3 Tamiyas to build, but for other reasons. I have two of the racing cars, and the Monte Carlo rally car.
  10. I had the visible woman kit years ago. I got it from Goodwill cheap, and it was missing some bones. I made a disembowled zombie out of it, but I couldn't do much with the pose since the body is clear plastic. Even though it looked good, it looked bad because of the static pose.
  11. Beetle Sedans didn't have vents in the decklid untill 1970. The convertibles always did, as there was no room for the vents below the rear window. Up until 1969 the convertible decklids had two rows of long wents. Starting in 1970,n both used the same decklid that had 4 rows of vents. 1974 is unique as it has an additional, themostat activated, vent hidden under the license plate. 1975 and up (fuel injection) have four rows of short vents with a big gap in the middle to shield the throttle body from rain.
  12. That came out beautiful! The detail painting on his head looks great. I built the Halcyon Aliens (II) warrior kit. It's also very well detailed, but kinda troublesome with some of the gaps and whatnot from what I remember. I also had the Predator II kit, but traded it a long time ago.
  13. The only Beetle kit I can think of that should have swing axle is the OOP Imai Super Beetle. It's a motorized curbside, so I doubt it has anythign usable. Best to fab your own. The Vanagon or Porsche 944 kits may have something usable, but thats alot of money to turn those kits into parts donors.
  14. I'd like to get one, but new import kits aren't in the budget. I remeber seeing some previews of Aoishima bosozuku styled kits, and one was a Cedric, too. I've got my two Fujimi's I'll have to be content with.
  15. This kit looks really nice . I remember the confusion over this and the convertible kit when they were previewed awhile back. It's fairly common to customize late model Beetles (usually bumpers and lights) to look older so this will shouldn't be hard to explain as custom. To make this a "US" spec version, you could use parts from the crappy old Revell casting. It was a true '68. You would need to remove the horn grills from this, and use the old kit's bumpers (68-73), front turn signals(68-69), tail lights(68-70) and seat backs(68-69).
  16. I was probably 14 when i did the Road Warrior stunt. My brother was the mad bomber with the explosives and rocket engines. Several of my models mysteriously dissapeared. I one found the remains of two of my 1/48 scale tanks in the field next to out house. I had a Chevy stepside truck and helicopter dissapear without a trace. The sickest thing I ever saw him do was put a gopher into a model rocket. Instead of wadding and parachute, he packed it with powder from some fireworks. You wouldn't want to be a varmint or bird with him around. He was always shooting animals with his pellet gun, too. Once a flock of crows attacked him.
  17. Neat! Looks very well detailed, despite being a curbside.

    Wild Manx !

I already told you it looks great. If you think it's too dark, maybe break up the solidness of it with pinstriping or some simple graphics?
  19. I ruined a set of Centerline wheels. They were from the Monogram 3n1 Trans Am. The axle holes in the hubs are huge. i was going to fill the holes and redrill them for a different axle. The front and backs were already glued together. For some reason, I thought it would be simple enough to use Sculpy. (polymer clay) It used to be quite common material in customizing action figures where you can set the clay in boiling water. Afterwards it behaves much like plastic. I did end up wih a set of wheels with realistic crash damage, though.
  20. Some of my snap together trucks rolled pretty good, so I actually used them as toys. Eventually axles would break and re-break till there was no fxing them. One day as an early teen, and discovering The Road Warrior. I converted my Captain Hook wrecker into an instrument of destruction. I made a big plow on the front made from the sleeper cab from a 1/18 Kenworth. I demolished alot of my lesser glue bombs that day.
  21. What I can see looks good. I almost bougth one of these kits off eBay for a project. Like everyone else said, try taking pictures in natural daylight, also check the setting on you camera. Use the macro/closeup setting if it has it.
  22. Outstanding work on all of them. Very lifelike!
  23. Now you're just showing off . That looks great. All the added detail really sets it apart. That is also one of the best modded VW engines I've seen.
  24. I reckon I've got about 30 kits. Half cars, half sci-fi. I usually muster about 2 a year. Hmm. Bad math shows %15?
  25. Not anymore it isn't! I'd like about 10 of thsoe kits, maybe another 6 I know I coudl use for customizing. I'd think you'd have a hard time giving away Nascar Lumina kits. then again, the engines and tires are good for something.
