Those are downdrafts. His photo shows sidedrafts. Mounting Weber downdrafts as sidedrafts makes as much sense as mounting a Holley 4bbl upside down and calling it an updraft.

Thanks. Exactly. That'll do it.

What I was saying is that you don't need to reinvent the wheel. Use a stock chassis. The stock Chevelle chassis is close enough to the best aftermarket jobs to pass, with a few relatively simple mods. Narrow it in the rear to accommodate the wider wheels, and adapt it for whatever rear suspension you use (4 link on a Ford 9"?). Then just put some tubular front suspension control arms on it, big brakes, presto-chango...instant (almost) pro-touring.

What Did You Have for Dinner?
Ace-Garageguy replied to StevenGuthmiller's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
It's starting to get a little chilly and it's sposed to rain all weekend, so I made the season's first big pot of chili. 2.5 pounds of cubed pork roast, onions, lotsa garlic, a couple potatoes (yes, I sometimes put potatoes in chili), no beans (except refried black beans to thicken and color the sauce), heavy on the habaneros, hot tortillas, & a rough red wine. Sweet-hot meaty nuclear heaven. -

A pro-touring car is going to most likely be built on a modified stock chassis, or something aftermarket like Art Morrison builds. https://artmorrison.com/chassis/chevelle-gm-a-body/ There's a kit out there somewhere with an appropriate chassis that's already tubbed, I believe...but I don't remember right off hand. Then all you need is to find tubular control arms for the front suspension...which are also available from kits. As Mark pretty much says, look at how the real cars are built online, and go from there. For what it's worth, I'm finishing up a fairly high-end full-scale big-block '66 PT Chevelle, on a custom frame that's a semi-replica of stock (narrowed in back for the wide tires and tubs, with a tubular front end setup) and I have bazillions of photos if you need something specific.

What did you see on the road today?
Ace-Garageguy replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Mine is a work in progress, as is almost everything else I own. I bought the car in 1995, cheap for what it was, as it was running on 3 cylinders and had an assortment of backyard builder buggery. Fixed most everything, drove it daily for a while, then the high-lift cam and stiff valve springs destroyed the stock VW timing gear whoever built the engine thought was appropriate. Started the rebuild with lotsa upgrades, big-valve heads, straight-cut steel timing gears, major chassis and suspension mods, a few body mods, etc. Had some difficult business and personal stuff to work through, and haven't had any indoor space to work on it since 2013. That will change when I get it to the new place in Arizona later this or early next year. Shown engine-out in about 2015, being guarded by Spooky, my vicious attack cat. -
Most excellent trades with NitroMarty and Exotics_Builder. Thank you, gentlemen.

I had a light lunch, took my daily dose of C and zinc, and a 2-hour nap. Feel like a new man. EDIT: Though research results are inconclusive for vitamin C and zinc having any beneficial effect on colds, I rarely get "sick"...and even though I've probably had 3 different strains of the dreaded bat flu, nothing was worse than a mild case of regular flu...just different.

Yup. Sam checked out in '67, but was definitely working with George when Herbert's streamliner Beast IV body was built. https://kustomrama.com/wiki/Sam_Barris -

Chet Herbert was quite a guy, having designed and ground the first roller cams for performance automotive engines in 1949. His company is still in business, and I'll be running a Herbert Cams roller in my '32 just because. https://www.herbertcams.com/about-herbert-cams/ His "Beast IV" streamliner, shown in the OP's photos above, was the fastest single engine car in the US in 1953, turning 246 at Bonneville. -

USA-made "corn likker" can be purchased legally, tax-stamped and all, but there are still plenty of sources for the real moonshine variety.

12:30 PM EDT Sept. 13: good thing this site isn't a car. If it was, you'd get creamed because nothing happens when you step on the throttle. Hanging so as to be almost unusable. -
No big deal, just feel like I'm getting a head cold and want to whine about it. Probably take care of some business, then knock off early. It is, after all, Friday the 13th.

What did you see on the road today?
Ace-Garageguy replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Nobody ever said or implied it's "for only real cars". All anyone said is what you saw was probably a replica. What's so horrible about that? EDIT: The Lambo Countach I saw yesterday looked legit, but the odds are good it was a replica too, as the values of those generally keep owners from driving them in dozy phone-obsessed traffic. Interesting cars are interesting cars, replica or not. -

I have a Beck replica 550 Spyder, and when asked, I always say "it's a replica of a '55 Porsche 550 Spyder", emphasizing the "replica". I have met many replica owners who, for whatever reason, don't bother to specify their cars are replicas. But anybody who knows old Porsches can spot a fake easily. EDIT: It's also pretty unusual to see a real Speedster on the road, as they're worth anywhere from $300,000 to $450,000. Add a million if it's a 4-cam car.
