  8. I know several people who have ex-govt. Crown Vics. Great car far as I can tell. The ones I've driven are, like you say, reasonably fast, solid, handle and ride well. A mechanic I know has one with 300k on the clock, and all it's ever needed was fluid and filter changes, tires, and brakes. I bought one myself back in 2005 (low miles, light front body damage) but somebody snagged it out of our storage lot before I picked it up. If you do buy en ex-cop-car, try to get one that's never been hit hard, or had suspension damage...both pretty common on police cars down here.

  10. As you've already been told here, it's a "short shot". It happens in injection molding when there's insufficient material injected to entirely fill the mold cavity. This body could have been a VERY early production piece, molded before the "tuning" was completed. It can also happen if there's a cold spot in the mold. The term "blow mold" means something entirely different. It's the technique where sheet material is blown into a mold cavity to create parts like the clear portion of the package this particular model is in, aircraft canopies, some kayak hulls, etc.

  16. You've probably seen the tuners who run bare carbon so that everyone knows it's carbon, even though much of it is fake overlays. The carbon on this car is real, entirely hand-crafted, not out of a catalog, and my guess the owner is proud of the effort and skill that went into making it. Only real downside to running "bare" carbon is the potential for UV damage to the resin. That can be dealt with pretty effectively with an automotive clear that contains UV inhibitors (as most of them do these days). This car also seems to be trailered a lot, and probably lives out of the sun most of the time.
  17. Looks like a Porsche, sounds like a Porsche, lotsa Porsche-designed bits on it, but not a Porsche. Came across this one while looking for something else entirely. "German coachbuilders Dannenhauer and Stauss hand-fashioned most of the cabriolet bodies they fitted to VW chassis. Workers pounded out the main body by hand over wooden forms—just the doors, engine cover, and front cargo lid were pressings. Styling was definitely reflective of the Porsche 356, but certain details remained like the rear fender arch and the suicide front doors like those found on pre-war VW prototypes. Given all the handwork involved, the cars were expensive so few were made: estimates range from 80 to 135 with 18 known survivors."

  19. Not a "hot rod" or "outlaw" per se, but certainly interesting. Porsche dressed up as an Alfa, by Ghia. 1953 And definitely hot-rods, kinda "outlaw" too, Porsche Abarths...
