  1. Ive noticed this . I have several old builtups where the rims show no signs of issues. Yet on some the outer edge / lip of the rim is completely melted away . I doubt its been around long enough to know one way or the other ,,,,but I wonder if a couple coats of Future would help prevent it .
  2. Ive got parts stripped for maybe a dozen ( ok probably / maybe / definitely more ) kits . From bumpers to wheel covers . Do I send them stripped and unmounted ? Whats the average turn around time ? I realize this one may be a loaded question,,,,,,as I assume thats load dependent on any given point in time . How or do we make payment before hand , or is there an invoice sent once completed ? Trying to streamline the time delays .
  3. Ive got a few early 60s builtups where the wheel is melting around the edge where it meets the tire. I even have a few early 70s funnycars with the same issue ( them it seems to be on the hollow rear tires only though ) Ive heard years ago to wrap BMF around the rim will prevent it from happening in the future
  4. sweet lineup
  5. Mark, A buddy of mine has 2 or 3 of them from different model years. I know he has collected a boat load of parts for them over the past 30 years. But dont know if either of his actually run without at least some amount of effort. But the ones he has are 100% complete,,,for some reason I keep thinking at least one of his is NOS still in the crate .( Ill have to ask next time we meet for lunch ) He has a Chrysler boat as well but I dont know of anything close enough to use a base to build it in 1/25th scale ( I am aware of the one in 1/20th scale ,,I used to have one but it looks huge behind a 1/25th scale model . So I sold it ) His car and the model I gave him this winter I want to put the trailer behind .
  6. My quandary. I have a builtup MPC 1972 Mopar Missile Cuda and the 73 Duster. I bought a bunch of old drag car builtups a few years back via Ebay and these 2 are from that bunch . So they have no sentimental value to me. The Cuda is the better of these 2 ,,,and it makes an OK display case piece the way it sits, just not as nice as I would like it to be . If it was in a case by itself I would just open it up, paint the seats black and put it back together. BUT its not !!!!!, its in a case with several others . The Duster on the other hand is painted a semi gloss , almost flat black which is obviously wrong and just looks bad . So that one I'm thinking just take it apart to redo the exterior with new decals and put it back together. The Cuda is another story. I'm on the fence and cant decide to leave it or redo it . The Cuda is the only one I have so to build an all new one would require me to purchase another one. That brings up the issue,,,what to do with the one I have So, do I take it apart for a complete makeover OR just repaint the exterior with new decals and back in the case. OR leave it as is and buy / build another one . Keep in mind I don't do contests so that's out of the equation . My issue is at some point back then these were some ones pride and joy. 2 of the others from this purchase I plan to leave alone. An Arlen Vanke 72 Duster and a Eddie Schartman Maverick pro stock They're not as nice as I can do,,,,,but not bad enough I feel like I NEED to take them apart either. The last one from this purchase is the Sox and Martin Duster. The decals on it are a mess and its just plain falling apart , plus there's no engine in it so its slated for a redo at some no matter what.
  7. I think I know the answer to this. But anyone know if there was and / or is a source for one of these. I needs to be in 1/25th scale . A good friend of mine owns a few of them and Ive already built a replica of his 1968 Coronet RT convertible . And I have a couple of the old MPC U-haul it trailers. And thought building it with one of these snow runners in it would be kinda neat as a display for his cabinet . my gut tells me I'll have to scratch build the entire thing
  8. If you changed the background behind it or the mat it sits on , You wouldn't be able to tell if it was the real car or the model
  9. I built mine over the winter. Been wanting to do It for years. Once it got going I couldn't stop. Now that its done....ita one of my favorites in the case.
  10. agreed. Althouh we never met in person. We talked back and forth a few times here on the board and via private message. But I miss him and his insight and passion for the hobby. I'm sure I'm not the only one who would love to to acquire one of his builds. I may not be in a financial position to pay what its worth . But would consider it an honer to own just one of his little masterpieces IIrregardles you have my deepest sympathies for your loss. And the challenge ahead of you.. Bill Allphin
  11. My original post / thought was if the bird was allowed the same variances / changes the modern cars are of today. Basically using todays technologies on a old design / shape . In both chassis / engine allowances / body mods As an example. The Bird had to have the overall same shape , glass angles , wheelbase , etc etc as it's stock counterpart right down to power train availability in street car form. It had to LOOK like something you could go in your dealer Monday morning and buy. (No slab sided English wheel / body hammer creations of today ) I think if they took the chains off so to speak, the bird would hold its own. It might still loose, but doubt it would get smoked . I hope Im able to convey the thoughts in my mind ,,,,, it sounds so much easier/ better than it looks in print
  12. Is this using a stock bodied new Camry ( or whatever they are using today ) as an example or a body that doesn't resemble ANY thing except the grille. Modern cars dont use anything stock bodied The Superbird had to use EVERYTHING stock . If the new cars get to use modern body designs , allow the Bird to be updated to level the playing field so to speak. With todays engine / power train advancements using a basic stock design Hemi long block. Im not so sure it would ' smoke it'
  13. Agreed, I don't follow nascar at all. But good friends of mine ' USED TO ' but don't anymore. Actually I don't know anyone who makes an effort to watch races anymore. I wish them well but my gut says loads of kits will be at Ollies bargain mart in short order I'd be curious to know how well a Hemi Superbird all decked out with today's technology would fair against a modern NASCAR piece using the power-train of its generation
  14. I like it. Keep thinking I may do one someday.
  15. My experience tells me if you can get $10 for it, consider yourself lucky I had a monogram 65 GT350 missing only the tires and wheels . for $10 and not one single person picked it up.
  16. Its my understanding the original photo is just that a photo . retouched to reflect the various colors for an advertising gimmick and there was never an actual 1/1 scale car.
  17. I'll look for these at my local hobby shop. He carries the parts pack kit stuff . The 2 front wheels are close enough in my book and I get a nice set of blue stripe slicks to boot. Not sure who originally made the decals . This is a client build and he already has the decals for the car ( no idea where he got them ) They're on ebay ,,,but beware of pirated copies from Virginia
  18. I'll take 2 of them if you find a source in 1/25th scale
  19. Ive got the rears covered I think. its mainly the fronts I need . Not sure I want to buy a whole vette kit just for 2 wheels ( not a vette fan ) I'll have to look around my parts kits and see if there's something close enough I can get away with. Anyone happen to know if the sock it to me kit has them in it by chance ? ( I think I have one as a parts kit , so thought I would ask before I dig it out this weekend )
  20. Tim Welborns recreation of a car that never existed in real life ( the original was a retouched pbotograph) Edit, If my memory is right the car shown above was a vinyl wrap and not paint. And I ' think ' it's a real Hemi Cuda and they plan to return it to factory stock once the coolness factor dies off over this Odd thing is. A few of the colors on the car wasn't even avail on a real 1970 Cuda back then.
  21. And this is model car related how ?
  22. I think this might be the best place to ask this , but here goes. Anyone know of a source for the wheels on this , Fronts and rears ? The fronts have an smaller / odd looking hole in them compared to the rears . And they must be 1/25th scale
  23. How about I just trade you my 1960 Olds for your 1960 Olds . I'll pay postage old buddy old pal I'll even kick in a little extra,,, just because Im a nice guy
  24. oh come on. You don't need tthat one. I'll spare you the misery of you want to send it my way. Sure would look nice next to a certain 60 Olds I have.
