Is the magazine still being published?
gtx6970 replied to DanR's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
6 months ( or more ) from one issue to the next . IMO is unacceptable. UNLESS its advertised / promoted as such . I read a while back new subscribers were paying for back ordered / delayed issues being printed ? Im sorry and I mean no ill respect to the publisher . But that's not a way to run a business . And will keep me personally from even considering becoming a subscriber at any level. New subscribers should be paying for growth not last years issues . Again MY opinion only. -

gtx6970 replied to oldcarfan's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Ive got a couple builders I bought as shown. My original plan was to take them apart for a redo. But I just cant bring myself to do it to these two. -

Be carefull. A 69 rear bumper has the 2 round backup lights in it, 1968 does not 1968 -

Do You Recycle Your Old Builds?
gtx6970 replied to oldcarfan's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Typically. The only rebuilds I do are old replica stock annuals/drag car builtups I've picked up.(and I certaintly have my share of those stockpiled ) As a general rule once I built it...its in the case for eternity . Plus I'm proud of some of the builds in have that are probably 25 - 30 years old. This particular car was built Im guessing maybe real early to maybe mid 80s at the latest time frame . And unless some major catastrophic event happens there is ZERO chance it will ever be redone by me . Its not accurate to a S+M Roadrunner by any means. But it will stay as is as long as Im on the green side . The next owner can worry about redoing my stuff . IF the family decides to part with them...... ( Im told the finished builts will stay but ,,,good chance the rest will go away in one lump pkg ) -
eBay Scammer Afoot!
gtx6970 replied to MrObsessive's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Nothing new. Been happening almost since Ebays beginning. Craigslist is nearly as bad or worst anymore . Its buyer beware . I'm a firm believer ' if it feels to good to be true it probably is ' motto . This is just one of the reasons why my Paypal account is NOT connected to my personal bank account . Far to risky of a chance of fraud , it would be just my luck these scammers would find a backdoor in and clean out my bank account. Paypal is my toy fund. When I sell something It enables me to buy something. When I sell something the money just sits there till I find something I feel the need to own. If I don't have enough money in my account, its simple ,,,,I do without till I do. Plus, when I buy something the seller has up till about 3 or 4 days before the opportunity to get my money back evaporates before I file a complaint. And an added personal pet peeve of mine, dont buy outside the states. I got burned pretty bad by a Paypal / Ebay buyer in Los Angeles a few years back. And it left a nasty taste in my mouth for PayPals so called "sellers assistant " ((((( aka - your screwed you should have seen it coming crew .))) But Someday I'll knock on his door . And its not going to be a pretty re-union. -
Then are people like myself. I actually avoid resin. Unless there is absolutely no other option. I'll use a 1965 Dodge Pickup as an example. Resin is the Only option if you want one. I'm regards to less say an 1968 Coronet hardtop. I look at total costs expense. By the time I buy a resin kit. And a parts kit needed to complete it. I can be in an original plastic kit for about the same money. Without the pitfalls associated working with resin (such as fitting glass )

I agree....to a point. But seeing what a Johan 1969 GTX or MPC 1968 Coronet sells at . On a consistent basis. An accurate version of either of these should/would be a no brainer ....... IMO

pm me an address. I'll dig them out and send them to you. Once your done with them via either with the build or make copies...send them back. Best I remember it was a pretty dark blue with Semi gloss grey interior and chassis .

I looked thru the ebay listings nothing really catches my eye. And IMO are not the ones your father is known for. I don't remember the name of it but he built a steam tractor looking thing maybe a year or so ago. THAT is one I would most certainly be interested in

gtx6970 replied to Furiousgeorge's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I have 2 cases very similar in size. 1st One my dad built for me has sliding glass doors. The 2nd one my in laws had made. Both are similar in size at about 3.5 to 4' wide and about 4.5 to 5' tall I also have a 3rd that is an old all glass curio case my wife bought many years ago. Im about to add glass shelving in the one my dad made to gain some space. Otherwise I need to think about where im going next. Wife laid down the law,,,no more cases -

1.5" ID on the upper Rockauto doesn't show a listing for the lower but my guess would be maybe 1-9/16" ID -
Mail man dropped this one off today. Its a Johan 1969 GTX promo. Body, chrome and interior. Its got a damaged left front fender. But considering what a nice goes for ( I got one of them as well. ) This one was cheap. I plan to fix the fender ,then chop the roof off it and turn it in a convertible to replicate one of my old cars
