Thanks. Must not have gotten the black base shiney enough. I tried buffing it.....didnt work. I painted several items and they all have a good shine but the one piece Ive already went over it BMF . so all is good

Watching this one. I will be making a cross country move here in a few short years. And I have a few ideas how to pack them up. But keeping nearly 150 nice built kits safe is going to be a challenge for me. I'm thinking toilet paper and each car packed in a promo box then all packed in a much larger box and they travel with me. The un-builts I''ll let the movers handle

I mixed some clear pearl with some silver and white ( its more clear pearl than anything) and went over them with that will add some Elmer's clear glue over them maybe today. But so far I like the contrast. I'm not after 100% perfection . just something that looks better them chrome.

Anyone have any tips to help the looks of the molded in head lights on these older kits. ? Drilling them out is not an option at this point ( chrome was already re-plated when I got the kit )

I put a new blade in my knife on every BMF job I start. And I have a knife I use for nothing but BMF work

Ok, I broke down and tried allcad for a change. I sprayed a set of hubcaps, some small parts and a windshield frame. The hubcaps and such look real good and I can definitely live with them as is . But the windshield frame isn't as shiny as I would like. Do I buff it once dry , or did I do something wrong. Its not hate full and I MIGHT be able to live with it. But If I can fix something now that I should have done better . I would prefer it. All of it has the same base coat of a duplicolor gloss black

I have one of the Harbor Freight $9 air brushes . I like it. Its not a crown jewel by any stretch. But it was less than $10 ,,,,,so my expectations weren't that high to begin with. IF something should go wrong with it or I need parts. I'll throw it away and go get another one . But I keep thinking I might try the $20 one and see what it gets me . I rarely used an AB in the past but I'm finding a need for one more and more as I dive into these old annuals and OE stock colors

This one is airbrushed and is only maybe the 2nd or 3rd time I've used my airbrush in 5 years Normally I use rattle cans. But,,,,I was after a unique color so I had this paint mixed at Smythe Automotive in Florence Ky. it was $16 for a 2 oz touchup bottle . And he gave me the reducer for it at no charge . . the clear is from Upol rattle can urethane clear sprayed right out of the can. I use it because A - its convenient B- it polishes out REALLY nice and slick with reasonable effort . I've had some builds I didn't polish it at all . Its usually lays down nice C - its convenient . KOI and Smythe both have it on the shelf Be advised if u use it,,,spray it outdoors as it does have a strong odor to it. I use one of the paint masks when I spray it in my garage .

Yep, on her car out in the sun its a very in your face bold yellow. And its not a real common color on the 1/1's . Unfortunately It just doesn't have quite the same effect indoors and on a model car. But I had it here so I decided to use it . (i'm looking for one of the old Neon promos to repaint for her to put on her shelf ) This is going to be a quickie all box stock to get me back in the saddle so to speak . I might try to get the interior painted today ( gonna be black and yellow )

I've seen a few restored examples on all them they were either black ,,or white on some dark colored cars

Hold it under pretty hot water, ( at least as hot as your fingers can take ) , correcting the twist ( maybe even over corrected slightly ) then have an assistant switch it from hot to cold water ,, all the while keeping the body in the water stream . You may have to repeat this several times to get what your after. How well this works depends A LOT on how bad its twisted. DO NOT under ANY circumstances use the oven in an attempt to correct a twisted body ,,, Or a hair dryer or heat gun , or open flame of any kind ( trust me on this )

Are you sure about this color. ? Seems like all these cars I've seen it look orange to me I picked up a can of Camel Yellow this week, and its most definitely not orange . I have one of the re-issue Monogram kits on my very short list to do

Does it have both a Magneto and a distributor ? I did some work on an early 30s General Monarch Firetruck a few years back that had the dual ignition. It had a BIG 6 cyl Buddha engine in it

Thanks all. Its in the case for a few weeks to gas out + dry. I painted the interior yesterday but I'm not real happy with the color. So I am going to try and find some different tan colors to try again

I've had this on the bench for nearly a year sitting in primer. Its one of those kits I built as a kid . And when it got re-issued a few years ago I snapped a few of them up for old times sake. With the nice weather around here this week it seemed like a good time to get it in color. Paint is the same as on my daughters 04 Neon, called Solar Yellow. In bright sunlight it has a a very small amount of a pearl look to it. And I thought it would fit the bill quite nicely. This will be a quick fall build to relieve my yuth ( lets see who gets that ) Thanks for looking

Agreed, although I've never seen the actual color in person . So all I have are monitor pictures I've found. My paint guy couldn't find a mix formula for something this old so we found a color that's close and he played with it using different tints . In the bottle it looked pretty close ,,,but to be honest I think once I sprayed it out we should have put more purple tint in it. But I'm happy with it and it looks amazing in person. I thought about it,,,,,,,but I was afraid the sharpie ink would run when the clear hit it ,,,causing all kinds of issues. And I REALY didn't want to have to strip it. So I decided to leave it till last ,,right before it goes in my case. I did it this same way on my 58 Imperial build and its still a nice gold color ,,,nearly 5 years later

Had an Ebay deal go south a few years ago. Sold some guy 3 dealer promos for the total sum of $450 . Once he got them he kept saying they were damaged , but never sent pics to prove it . Kept giving me some song and dance how his email was blocking out going or my email was blocking incoming picture files. Finally after about 6 weeks he filed a paypal dispute . So I told him to send them back . What I got was 2 cars worth about $20. But because he insured them for the $450, He sent them airmail and without seeing who the box was from or what was in it,,I had to sign. Paypal refunded him his money. Burned me for the full amount , no matter how much I argued with paypal via email or phone. Sent them pics of what I sold and of what I got back in return ,,,,,,,,, I got screwed. Shortly afterwards I closed my ebay sellers account and haven't used them to accept payment since, and never will . Now I just use ebay and paypal to buy ONLY .

Got clear on it this morning. and it really REALLY brought out the plum / purple tint to it. I'm super happy with it. Problem is my camera will not capture the color right either indoors or out. And a better picture of the scripts. This one turned out so much better than my previous attempts . Thanks to Mr Annual Steve Guthmiller for the tips Now is goes into hiding to cure , for maybe a week or 2 before I handle it again. Till then time to paint another one.

I always wanted to build one of these ,,,but having a few of the old promos I never did. Plus the odd scale turned me off I've driven several of them ( used to work at a Dodge dealership ) And these cars are an absolute blast to drive. Both on the straights and in curves. The all wheel drive is amazing
