Another Pledge with Future Question
gtx6970 replied to StevenGuthmiller's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
2 bodies painted with the exact same can of paint ( painted about 2 or 3 days apart ) , Duplicolor shot straight from the rattle can. So its a lacquer. I've already been down the enamel clear over white before,,and that's another one I will not do again The one on the right has a future clear coat the one on the left has NO clear of any kind . Its wasn't planned that way,,its just the way it worked out. I'd read about it so wanted to try the stuff and make my own opinion . And the one on the right was 1st to get completed. ( the one on the left sat for about a year or 2 in a clear display case for no reason other than life got in the way of model bench time) To be honest ,,,,,I didn't notice the color differences at all until I had the 2 cars side by side in the case . So the change is subtle,,,but its most definitely changed the brightness of the white . And it might be just a little more noticeable in person. Buts its definitely there. and I will not use it again as a clear top coat. I'll stick to my Urethane clear Not to mention its NOT as shiny as a clear top coat ,,IMO . The one on the left has NO clear coat of any kind. -
Agreed. It all depends on what one seeks in a kit. The Lindberg kit builds into a pretty decent replica. with much better detail than the original kit. I have a few of the Lindberg examples, and also a few of the originals,,,,,although all my originals are convertibles.

Oddly enough I used it on a white car. With that build siting next to another car I painted with the same paint, it's definitely yellowed a touch -
Yep and yep

Like I said, If your going to wire it , it takes absolutely NO longer to wire it as OEM as it does to not ......so why not do it right. Having it judged or not is irrelevant ,,,,or just how far your going as far as the level of detail. For me its about satisfaction . I don't do contests. I build for ME and ME ALONE . I like the fact I can look under the hood of a model car and know its right for the AMOUNT of detail I WANT TO PUT INTO IT . When I build more than box stock ( anymore its extremely rare ) About the most I do is plug wires and heater hoses . I'll wire it correctly and try my best to route the hoses like OEM from where they enter the engine block to where they enter the firewall ,,I want it the best I could do. For me that's all I need to make me happy with it .

Another Pledge with Future Question
gtx6970 replied to StevenGuthmiller's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Maybe I used it wrong, But I used it on a build last year and was NOT impressed. It sits on the shelf of doom and will most likely go in the trash someday. or maybe I'll use it on the floors . -
i have several from the old annuals. I will NOT be using ( late 50s - early 60s car )

Fixing a Bird (or There He Goes Again!)
gtx6970 replied to MrObsessive's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I wasn't aware the Fuel Injection was avail on a lowly 58 Plymouth Fury? I thought it was only avail on the top of the line models from Desoto and Chrysler ????????. Ps, I've seen ONE 58 Fuel injection car in person ( the resto was in process at the time ) . I thought it was a Chrysler 300 But for the life of me cant remember for sure so it may have been a Desoto ( its been nearly 30 years since I've seen it ) EDIT, just did some quick google work . The 58 Plymouth was avail with fuel injection but it was on a RB engine . The only Hemi car with fuel injection in 1958 was the 300D and I'm almost positive there was a fuel injected 300 in Louisville I looked at many years ago http://www.forwardlook.net/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=19270 -
I think I just might have to get one of these

PS, the 440 magnum in 1968 B body cars was turquoise NOT street hemi orange ( same goes for the 383 HP engines in 1968)

gtx6970 replied to StevenGuthmiller's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Any thoughts to remove that half molded master cylinder form the firewall and replace it with a much more accurate piece, say from the Mobieus Satellite or something ? -
1 - do the bucket seats have a chrome trim that goes around the back rest portion of the seat? ( across the top and down each side ) 2 - does the piece in the center of the grille remain with the grille if the hood is up, or does it go up with the hood ( aka attached to the hood )

When I do actually add that kind of detail. I wire them all in the correct firing order. It doesn't take any longer to do than not doing so
