  1. Another long ago started project. I wanted to build this kit when it was re-issued a few years back. I started it,,,getting the interior and chassis done ( the engine isn't accurate anyway so I decided to make it a curbside and glue the hood shut) Figuring I would need to use an a air brush to achieve the exterior fade paint work,,,, I shelved it . But when I stumbled onto an article about the car a few weeks ago. I dug it back out to try an idea I had . The actual car was pearl white in the front, followed by the gold,, then candy tangerine that all fades back to what the article states was almost a deep maroon color. Using a box trimmed to just barely cover the body. I used rattle cans . The whole body was painted gold,,,I placed my box / mask over it covering the body up to about halfway up the hood ,,,then the Front end was painted Tamiya pure white with a light coat of Testors white lightning. Then turned it around then a fog coat of Testors metallic red on the back end. Plan is cover the body up to about mid door in Testors Candy red , then clear the whole thing . I've got my fingers crossed it works .
  2. Well, after a paint issue with the hood maybe 3 years ago,,. I lost interest in it and put it away. My resolution this year was finish a lot of stalled projects before starting anything new. This is one of them. Lindberg Ramchargers kit with the AMT 1968 Roadrunner kit giving up its drive-train ( the actual car was a 4 speed but the kit is an auto ) The front spindles were flipped to get the nose out of the weeds. I dont get into a lot of superdetailing , just a MAD supplied pre-wired distributor. I made some header extensions to replicate the 1/1 . Also made a single pot master cylinder to look more like a 1964 should. Decals I think might be Fred Cady ( not 100% sure though) The black wiring underhood was done with a sharpie,,I also drug the sharpie around the window frames to replicate the weatherstripping but you can barely even tell its there. I'm not real happy with the look of the carburetors,,but I looked thru my parts stash and found nothing I liked better. So they'll have to do till I come up with something better Hope you like it,,I sure do . And its another one in the case. ( But looking at these pics I see i forgot to added the headlight lenses and the DODGE emblem decals to the quarter panels. )
  3. I almost put a bid on that car. I have the convertible and and the 60 Buick is one I wouldn't mind having as a hardtop as well . I know a guy who used to have one and that car just looked neat . But they were others listed I wanted more , so I backed off of it ( lucky you I guess ) . I did win the other 3 that I was after though ( it was an expensive weekend )
  4. I looked at the uptop from the current 1/25th scale 72 Olds 442 kit. and it looks dead on the Chevelle top . I've been told the most accurate body 1970 Chevelle kit is the Revell snap kit which I am pretty sure is also 1/25th scale I would use it , cut the top off of it and use the Olds uptop and chassis from it as well I see the decals ARE avail. I just might have to get me a set for a future project Bill Ps, and btw any one know if that car was a real 454 vert, LS5 or LS6 car by chance
  5. I tend to agree with ya. I look for old annuals and in most cases buying a convertible version of the kit usually tends to be a tad cheaper . if it was avail as such .
  6. Although I loose interest prior to about the 1958 models,,,,,,, But I might seriously consider one of these . I am guessing a 55 or 56 Oldsmobile ?
  7. I built a 1968 kit maybe 2 years ago . And I don't remember any glaring fit issues . But I do remember the chassis and engine bay fit is tight. I think I glued the firewall to the chassis / interior and getting it all in if I remember right is a battle . I gave the completed build to the the owner of the 1/1 it replicated ( I am restoring the actual car now,,,with a completion date late this spring ) PS, IMO, my one real complaint with the revell kit is the door scallops are no where near accurate compared to the 1/1 . If I do another one for myself I will use an original MPC body with the revell kit as a doner
  8. I love looking at this kid of detail , and can only imagine the skill it takes to do something like this in such a small scale. Impressive is such and understatement . I have plans to build a couple later on,,,but they will be NO WHERE this level . So My hats off to ya . But keep it coming . I've always enjoyed the GT40 cars ,,even had the opportunity to sit in a real one several years ago. Kind of tough to get in and out of though. And from what I remember the drivers foot well was really narrow .
  9. Just did a trade with Nathan , aka Bignate . Flawless deal
  10. I've thought about replicating that car,,,just couldn't find decals Be pretty cool in the case next to a Red Alert build
  11. My latest Ebay find. And original issue AMT 1959 Lincoln convertible. The fender skirts were glued on ,,but I took a chance on it anyway. Mail man dropped it off about an hour ago and I jumped right on it to see if they would come off. Sure enough popped right off with minimal damage to the body. Everything to build it stock is with it,,including the hood ornament is there. All I need to find is one stock hubcap,,,someone had glued a spinner to it and I don't think it can be fixed easily. It even came in it original box . I can now ck one more off the want list.
  12. I'll bet that put a dent in a bank account. I saw where it was listed. ( I am looking for a clean builder , so I have Johan GTX in my searches to be notified when one gets listed )
  13. True, sort of. If all you have is the block, you need the casting numbers found on the side to truely determine what it is/was. The Hemi was introduced mid year 1964 and was RACE Hemi only ( there is a Nascar version as well as a drag race version ) . The 1st year for the street Hemi was 1966
  14. About the only thing a 426 street wedge and a 426 Max wedge share ,,is cubic inches . They are very different engines and applications. with the biggest differences be the heads and intake . The intake port on a max wedge is about a half inch longer compared to a street wedge of any size . All max wedge engines have the crossram intake with 2 carbs.Gigantic intake ports combinded with those uniquely shaped exhaust manifolds . All 426 street wdge engines just have a sinlge 4 barrel carb, chrome valve covers and chrome air cleaner ( the currently avail Moebius 65 Satellite depicts a 426 street wedge car )
  15. For the max wedge exhaust , use the aforementioned Polar Lights Dodge stuff. For the Race hemi , either find a set from a Johan kit Or wait till the Melrose Missle car hits the shelves
  16. Mopar heater hose is 5/8" for 1969 and earlier for both Then in 1970 they have 1 is 5/8". The other is only 1/2" Sorry dont know what gauge would be correct I have some i can measure if fit helps
  17. Max wedges cars used a single head pipe Hemi cars used the snake looking setup with 4 pipes per side as shown above The Hemi dint come out till mid year 1964. So the max wedge was still avail the 1st part of 1964. But was long gone by 1965
  18. Love everything about it, color, stance, wheels , etc etc etc
  19. I agree, if its not fun back away. No way would I rush this to finish it before you feel its ready. Work at the pace that makes you happy. For me it has to be enjoyable. And I'll get bored easily. When I do I turn out the lights and close the door .then come back when the mood strikes me to . I might work at the bench for a few hours a day - everyday for weeks on end,,,then not go there for weeks . But theres no way I can build at anywhere near the level this car is ,,I dont have that much patiance. This car has taken on a life all its own and to rush it might sacrifice something your not completly happy with in the end . Shelve it and work on something else or nothing at all. You can always come back to it later . BUT , it looks amazing. I would love to have a few of those K style barrel valves in 1/25th scale ,,,and I doubt I'm the only one .
  20. Glad to see it back. But I have at least a half dozen of them in various issues ,,,,,,so I really dont want/need any more unless they go on a firesale
  21. OK, got a question. with the 1964 Hemi cars, they were factory delivered with Carter carbs. But it wasnt far into the season a lot of racers switched to Holleys ( which is what Mopar went to for 1965 ) With this car still running under the same class # has the earlier 64 max wedge car ( #602 ) I assume its early in its life ,,,/ the season and the Carters would be correct ? I've been able to find one and only one underhood picture of this car where Grumpy is working on it,,,and I'm pretty sure it has the Holleys !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  22. A VERY nice save. I like it
  23. Gots to love the 50s sleds
  24. And my inspiration, Always liked this pic, eyes glued to the tree, just leaving the line with the front shocks stretched all the way out .Hammering on it hard .
