I did this one probably 10 years ago. And I am real happy with how it turned out . I think it's testors gloss black with testors clear very light sanded between the color and clear coats with nothing but a waxing on the final coat It wasnt prepped or treated any different than any other color I use. It doesnt have that mile deep look to it,,,,,,,,,then again neither did the car I was trying to replicate. So it thats what your after try the above methods. It's just like the fullsize cars,,,know what you want in the finished prodect BEFORE you start said project.

In Honor Of The "Chezoom" release...
gtx6970 replied to funhouse1's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
I thought they were the same kit ,,save for the wheels -
Closest I would say I have to duplicates would be 4 total of the Lindberg 1964 Dodges, 3 white and 1 black. But all 4 in different liverys ( exterior lettering ) though 3 of them are red inter , 1 is tan . All crossram Hemi powered

Monogram 1970 Challenger T/A Rebuild-Under Glass 03-13
gtx6970 replied to mustang1989's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Mopar undercarriages were a medium grey in color for MOST build plants. ,,, The undercarriage of an LA Plant built was black . All would have a slight body color over spray along the rocker panels ,,exactly how much varied from car to car. The there are/were cars that received factory underocating,,they would all be a rough textured black. Rear axle was a low gloss black , regardless of axle type. The only exception to this would be the center section/carrier only on an 8-3/4 would be bare iron color. Here is a pretty decent undercariage show , 1970 Challenger ,,I think the lighting is making the primer color look darker then it actually is because I dont think this car was an LA plant build -

In Honor Of The "Chezoom" release...
gtx6970 replied to funhouse1's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Did this one many years ago and is the only one of these kits I have finished to date. And will definitly pick up a couple of the Chezoom Corvairs just for grins I really like the kit, simple but looks pretty cool in the dispaly case. Its Testors color by Boyd color ( no idea the name of it ) . basic spark plug wiring and some machined injector stacks to replace the awful kit pieces . Otherwise it's box stock -

Ok, I have a in the near future build in mind to do the Red Alert superstock . I have the current AMT kit ,,is it pretty close ?

Ditto No model drag car collection is complete without a Wild Willie Altered. I have one and I'm not an altered fan

Box art and your decision?
gtx6970 replied to Petetrucker07's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I have nearly a dozen of these kits in various interperations,,,,,But I plan to buy one of these,,solely because of the box artwork. I build old drag cars and this box just screams at me I NEED it . But ,,Yes if the price is right and the box artwork depicts the cars/style/era I like. I would buy an empty box . As an example there is an old AMT Corvette I wouldnt mind having the box ,even if it was empty. IF it is reasonablely priced -
hard to say,,,may just be the angle of the picture. could be the tubes are to thick
-
I havent built this example ,,,but have done several others .I am out of town this week but can post a few pics next week when i get back home if wanted Overall,,,getting the chassis straight is finicky. Otherwise it's one of my favorite kits to build
-
so far so good. hopefully the grille / headlight surrounds fit to the body will be finessed a touch more

for those that have used it,,what do you use for the ft windshield on the speed city resin body? looks like it has some serious compound curves to make one from scratch -
so a plain rear body panel. ? bucket seat interior ? wedge engine I assume?

When is a build complete in your eyes?
gtx6970 replied to ERIK88's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Once it goes in my case it's pretty much done . whether it's actually 'completely finished ' is another story . I've had incomplete builds in the case for over 10 years before they came back out and were completely finished. Actually I think I have 2 or 3 unfinished cars in the case now that were started in the 90's This is one I started before my oldest daughter was born ( she'll be 18 in April )
