  1. I've used the metalizer without primer and it works great.
  2. I love anything unique and creative!
  3. robertw, you made me LOL! Spend a summer here in the deep South and you'll know why I'm LOL.
  4. Don't put lacquer over enamel. Get some enamel clear or some lacquer grey.
  5. I've just started this kit and I must agree, the A pillar is really out of scale. Haven't decided yet how to fix it without messing up the drain rail moldings.
  6. Thanks guys. I'm an old racer so I like the race cars. I built the out of character Fireball Roberts 57 Ford in honor of my Uncle Roy who took me to a race at Greenville-Pickens Speedway in South Carolina while on a visit to see relatives. I was hooked big time. Loved hot rods in the 50s and 60s. Eventually had the chance to do some vintage racing in sports cars. My Uncle Roy, he was a great guy. I sure miss him. I'm working on the 63 Watson Roadster, 63 Lotus 27, a Boss 429 Mustang, BRE Datsun 240Z and Toyota GT-One TS020.
  7. I only completed 2 models in 2014. Up to 8 this year. Completed the Penske Vette in 16 days. A record.
  8. The plastic should be fine but I'd find a place inside for the decals.
  9. Our cat is diabetic so I have quite a supply of insulin syringes. They are 29 gauge with a 1/2" length needle. I can draw Ambroid into a syringe, apply it and return the unused glue to the bottle. Makes application very accurate. I built a small tool to hold them and apply the glue slowly but I've gotten fairly good at just squeezing out what I need. Afterwards, give the syringe a few in and out pumps to clear the needle and it's ready to reuse. They eventually become unusable but I get an average of 4 or 5 uses from each syringe. My suggestion is find a friend that's diabetic. Insulin syringes work great.
  10. Definitely stuff that I really like. Great job!
  11. I built this about a year ago. Hadn't finished many models at that time. It cost around $150 including the plexiglass, fluorescent lights, frosted glass and lumber.
  12. Gosh, JC, where were you when I returned to this hobby? I'm guilty on the first 2 for sure. Bought a relatively expensive AB and found that the Paasche H was better for my style. The first kit I started wasn't expensive, but was a little rare. It was the BRE 510. Thank goodness they released it again.
  13. Do you mix them together or shoot color and then semigloss clear over that?
  14. I build a lot of race cars that specify semigloss colors. I like to spray craft acrylics on the chassis parts. What ratio of paint to Future, or whatever you use for the shine, do you mix them to achieve best results?
  15. Another fine example of your modeling skills! Beautifully done.
  16. Well, I'm really confused now. I dug around in the garbage and found the cap to the can I just bought. It says it's 1261 Glosscote. Would mixing that with MM Gloss Clear cause it to produce a semigloss finish?
  17. Thanks Nick! Is the cap the only difference between the two? I couldn't find any numbers on the can I bought.
  18. I bought some Testors Clear Coat Dullcoat by mistake (lack of attention to detail) and mixed it with some Testors Clear Coat Glosscote I already had. Since I'm building the Fireball Roberts 57 Ford, the less than glossy finish that resulted looks pretty realistic. Is the cap color the only way you can tell the difference between the two?
  19. After you've gotten the bottles open and you've cleaned up the cap and threads, get some Glad Press and Seal and cut a piece big enough to cover the bottle top. Apply it there and then screw the cap back on. No more stuck lids.
  20. Mine hibernates in the basement during winter.
  21. I've got some questions about the Paasche H packing O ring. From the picture below, it looks like it's plastic. What's it made of? Is it lacquer thinner, acrylic thinner, etc. safe? How do you know when it needs replacing? http://www.tcpglobal.com/PASH-185.html#.VlqANOJUqFI
  22. I started with a Badger Patriot 105 with a 0.5 mm tip. Too small for shooting a model car body. Bought a Paasche H with a #5 tip which is 1.06 mm. I've had great success from the first time I used it. I've been experimenting with the #3 tip which is 0.64 mm as well.
