Scale I Build

  1. This is probably the first model I created that I'm happy with the end result. With that said, it's far from perfect. Being that I'm still learning, there's plenty of imperfections like the misaligned front passenger side wheel, sub-par body paint job, and the overzealous amount of glue on the rear tires. There's also plenty of small details that I simply couldn't add in due to my lack of experience (although, I was able to paint all the Chevy logos gold, both on the grille and hubcaps). But I'm mostly happy with how it turned out, it's definitely unique, and I'm a fan of emergency vehicles. The model also came with a stretcher and some other emergency equipment, which I glued to the stretcher and kept separate. This thing is also difficult to handle, as it has many delicate details like the mirrors and siren that will fall off at the slightest touch. Anyway, thanks for looking and tell me what you think. I've got a Honda Odyssey lined up for one of my next builds, so hopefully that van can at least turn out as good as this one. Also, I found this old, crappy photo I got back when the van was still being built. As you can see, I didn't mask the rear floor completely, but I wasn't too worried since you cant see it very well. This vehicle does have a complete engine, but its mostly covered up and there's no hood to remove. Even if you could, the engine is mostly under the engine cover in between the seats.
  2. Greetings from mtr cty,,heres what I would do to a 58 Impala if $$ was no object for the 1:1 car. Its a kit from the 90's,, AMT 3n1 I got at a swap meet,,10$ I think. Modified parts are: Removed hard top,, Intake for the 409 mtr. Rims,,rear tires,,sidepipes, used custom front airdam that came in kit. Painted w/ Testors quickdry enamel. Hand painted interior. Kit came w/opening doors,,but they took alot of sanding+ size/fit work to get them to close decently. Hand painted sidetrim work as well. No BMF anywhere on this,,just taped it off w/tamiya tape,,and painted it. I think its one of Chevy's best designed body styles. So unique. Enjoy all the works here,,keep on building!
  3. I am trying to build a 55 Chevy gasser and would like it to have a removable front clip. How could I do this? The kit is Monograms 55 Chevy Street Machine kit.
  4. Attached are a few pics of a project I've worked on for a couple of years and am now nearing completion. I like 4drs. Mostly so I can build my police car models but also because they are just so very rare in offerings from the styrene tyrants. This was a bit of a rough one. I used a promo for the base and unbeknownst to me, these promos are evidently injected in some kind of ABS or something NOT styrene. SO, you can't just work with grafting on styrene to build what you want. It all has to have styrene superglued to it as a base to work off of. Still, it is finally about done. I modified the tub, modded the rear bumper to create the four tailight base version over the six one on the Caprice. Another scrap grill donated the "Chevrolet" script for the header panel and I added the Bal Air's Chevy Bow Tie to the center of the grill. Make some door mirrors and find some button caps and it's done. Thanks for looking..
  5. Hi everybody, I am looking for some engine ideas for a few builds. First is an engine for a 37 Ford I want to build as a gasser style. I also would like to build a 66 Fairlane in a Pro Touring or restomod style. Next is a 66 El Camino. I'm thinking about possibly a different engine for my 99 SVT Cobra but I may stick with stock. Finally is for a 1992 Firebird. 1992 is the year I was born and would like to build it as sort of a dream car/ birthday gift.
  6. So, I'm building the MPC Vending Machine kit, which is a replica of the 1:1 car. On the full-size the starter is mounted above the top of the block, it looks like: the kit has the starter mounted down on the driver's side of the block so I'll need to correct that...but I'm not an expert on SBCs at all...is the placement in the pic above standard for a particular year of SBC, or something custom for this one car? I'm trying to find some reference material to work out the proper placement and blankets and stuff...
  7. I am looking to build a replica of my 1984 Chevy 1 ton 4x4 service truck (ex Fire Truck). I plan to scratch built the bed and I am using the AMT Wrecker and the 1984 Chevy(Fall Guy truck) to get the parts needed to look right. However, I need a 454. I have looked at Hobbylinc and I can find several with a 409, and tons with a Small block(ie 350 or 327) but no 454(or 366) Big Blocks. Can anyone suggest a kit that would have a good 454? I don't care if it has a blower, but as close to stock as possible would be nice, however I will work with what I can get. I just don't want a tiny small block in my truck.
  8. My first build of 2018. I need a break from chrome, now! I added a frenched antenna, parts box wheels, modified grill and used a mask, for the flames. A Detail Master PE set topped it off. I hope you like it
  9. Built this awhile back. Came out really nice. This was a really good kit and a pleasure to build. 1 (205) by Eric Lucas, on Flickr 1 (206) by Eric Lucas, on Flickr 1 (207) by Eric Lucas, on Flickr 1 (208) by Eric Lucas, on Flickr 1 (209) by Eric Lucas, on Flickr
  10. I've had this on my shelf for a couple of years, always planning to build it stock. But I found a flame mask I bought a while back and I've got an urge to try it out. I found some deep steel wheels, in my parts box and some nice tyres, too. I'm using the custom suspension included in the kit and I don't think I'll need to cut it about to get the ride height I'm after.
  11. I'm looking for some knowledge/advice on modeling the cars my parents owned during the '70s. They traded the first one the year I was born so I'm not 100% sure I ever rode in it, but photos exist somewhere so I should have references for all of these post Thanksgiving. First: 1970 Chevy Nova (not an SS though). I'm assuming I should start with a Revell or AMT kit. Is one a better option? How hard will it be to "downgrade" it to a non SS model? Next: 1974 Chevy Impala. Does anyone make a model of this and/or is it possible to model with another model year kit? And finally: 1978 Chevy Cheyenne Pickup. I saw this morning Revell is issuing a '78 GMC pickup in December. Would that be the best place to start? All help and comments welcome!

  14. Re-release of the AMT '59 El Camino kit, this time with the original box art, poster, decal inside. 8, yeah, EIGHT pad printed tires in the box (whitewall and polyglas), both 348 and supercharged V8 as well and a nice sheet of waterslides for stock, work truck and custom. Steelies, hub caps and centerline style wheels included. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oc3gdnd4iFs
  15. Nice re-release of the classic 83 Z28 kit. Minimal flash, nice chrome work, decal sheet is clear. No big new surprises on this one, just a good repop of an older kit. Would have liked some different tires though, just personal opinion. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mLIfObfE2oY
  16. Started with the Revell kit. Regular gloss black and Gloss Guard's Red. Came out looking pretty good after a little bit of trouble with the trim. 17. My '65 Chevy c-10 stepside. This was the second model car I ever built. I actually went back & redid a lot of the paint but as you can tell I'm sure, all of the glass is missing. Glue was smeared all over it so I thought it looked better without it. Very proud of this & I'm very happy that my builds have only gotten better as time has gone on
  18. Soooooo a question about paint..... The yellow on the hood and the yellow on the body are different shades. I put another layer of paint on the body to try and even it out, as that's the lighter of the two. What else can I do to improve the look, and make it look really glossy??
  19. Here's my revell '69 nova SS with a 350 size engine. This was a huge milestone in my building as this was my first paint job to turn out flawlessly. I absolutely loved this build and I put as many drag racing options as I could into it, while still keeping it a street car. If anyone sees anything I could improve upon or do better please say something. I want to get better
  20. My '77 k-10 Chevy. I absolutely loved this build & look forward to building more trucks in the future. This is my first taste of two tone painting & am very pleased with the way it turned out. I put a lot more time & detail into the engine & cab & I really believe they make the truck much more outstanding. If anyone has any comments, or constructive criticism please give a reply. I really want to get better. Thank y'all
  21. Got this 2010 Chevy AMT Showroom Replicas Camaro kit from eBay a long time ago and final had a cool idea. I ordered the decals from Bill Bozo and painted the car with German Silver metalic. The decals are top notch and well worth the almost month long wait. Took some artistic license in placing the decals on the front. The words could not be placed together as they are in the Chargers because of the vent on the front. Took a bit of artistic license with the blue interior tail lights. Found a "Call #677" plate and scaled it down. The two antennas on the drivers side are custom built, while the ones on the passenger side I found in a box or spare parts. You can see the radar display mounted to the dash behind the windshield. The radar itself is made from various sizes of styrene with pieces of clear sprue in each end. The spotlight is made from a head light from a '29 Ford Roadster. I made the computer out of a piece of styrene in which I printed a screen and keyboard then attached it to a piece of round styrene and attached it to the center console. Hard to see in this picture, but there is a custom CB radio in the center console, just in front of the cup holder. Caught some young whipper snappers out driving their '66 El Camino on the back roads. Thank you for looking.
  22. I saw this kit on sale at my local drug store. Right away I knew what I was going to do before I even made it to the check out. The body is painted with Testors star spangled blue and the interior is a simple white. The kit is pretty much stock except lowered the suspension a bit, but once I got done you can not tell much. Took the car out for a drive on the road and apparently enjoyed the 396 too much and was caught. Thanks for looking.
  23. Got the new Yenko Corvette kit. I love it! The kit came out great.
  24. Hey guys, does anyone know if there is a caster out there that makes a rear roll pan for the 88-98 Chevy trucks? I'm about to start a 454SS build and have the hood on the way but it would look silly to have the back bumper installed....thanks.
