Snake45 Posted August 15, 2015 Posted August 15, 2015 I've seen it...I just still can't believe Monogram once thought they'd actually sell enough of them to be profitable.
Longbox55 Posted August 15, 2015 Posted August 15, 2015 Aftermarket conversion, only 5 were built, plus one prototype.
Mark Posted August 15, 2015 Posted August 15, 2015 Aftermarket conversion, only 5 were built, plus one prototype.I read somewhere that, of the six cars, two were sold to the same guy. Not much of a market there, apparently, since nobody ever tried such a thing again. That said, I've got one of the Monogram kits on the pile...thinking it would look better with a Nomad-style rear roof section in place of the stock rear glass...

Longbox55 Posted August 15, 2015 Posted August 15, 2015 (edited) I don't know if I would call that Porsche a "sportscar" in the traditional sense. It's more of a "sports sedan". However, GM did look into possibly making the Corvette a 4 seater in '63, to better compete with the Thunderbird. The idea was dropped, though. http://www.corvetteblogger.com/2010/1/14/GM-Archives-Corvettes-Almost-4Seater-1963-Split-Window-Coupe/ Edited August 15, 2015 by Longbox55
kruleworld Posted August 16, 2015 Posted August 16, 2015 reminds me of the stretch corvette (aka Dorvette)
Daddyfink Posted August 16, 2015 Posted August 16, 2015 And odds are that this is probably the most accurate kit they ever made!! LOL!
jaymcminn Posted August 17, 2015 Posted August 17, 2015 I remember building one of these as a kid. I wouldn't mind having one in the stash for a rainy day project...
Dave Van Posted August 17, 2015 Posted August 17, 2015 I need one for my movie car collection. Anyone else see 'Mystery Men'??? Panned by all....but I love it...campy film with lots of great folks.

Joe Handley Posted August 17, 2015 Posted August 17, 2015 Geez, those are some looooooong sidepipes on that limo!
Snake45 Posted August 17, 2015 Posted August 17, 2015 This is what I'm gonna do to mine... Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki Engine will be further back....Joe There's only one color for this: SubLime.
High octane Posted August 17, 2015 Posted August 17, 2015 I still have parts from that kit from long time ago, like the beautiful wire wheels/ tires, the engine, and the side mirrors aslo.
Rob Hall Posted August 18, 2015 Posted August 18, 2015 Wild...never had one of these, going to have to find one..I have built several Monogram '78-82 Corvettes, always liked them..seemed pretty accurate, though simplified as Monograms were then.
GMCMAN52 Posted August 18, 2015 Posted August 18, 2015 There's one on ebay for 49.00 not sure if that's the going rate for this kit.I still have one that I purchase new and still factory shrink wrapped. Was thinking of opening the kit to rob the great looking wire wheels?
vettecote Posted August 18, 2015 Posted August 18, 2015 Keep watching eBay. I've seen them anywhere from 10$ to 50$...Just have to catch it at the right time..Joe
Jonathan Posted August 20, 2015 Posted August 20, 2015 Joe is right - I've picked up a three over the years. One was BADLY warped, one I made a mess of, and one's lingering on the workbench now. The wheels - very nice. The rest - well... it's okay. Worth taking a whack at, but I'd hesitate to drop $50 on one for sure.
Jonathan Posted August 20, 2015 Posted August 20, 2015 The one on the workbench at the moment. Not my best, but still ..

Advanti II tried a 4 door Advanti
Maindrian Pace Posted August 20, 2015 Posted August 20, 2015 I'd like to see the Corvette America backdated to a '68-'69 L-88. What a cool phantom that would be.
