Can-Con Posted January 5, 2020 Author Posted January 5, 2020 So, Finished up the T-bird so back on this one. Did up the headlights. The bezels are from a Revell '59 Chevy with Lucas lenses. I've also been working on the custom interior between other things over the last few months. The seat inserts aren't quite there yet but they're coming along.
Claude Thibodeau Posted January 6, 2020 Posted January 6, 2020 Hi! Very unique project. These kits are rare and difficult to get. And if you find one, a second loan on the home is ofen needed $$$. Your shaded paint job is very nice. And to say that back then, when the car came out, journalists critiqued that it was just a "carry-over" of the previous design, barring the fins. Notheless, I find it very appealing! CT
Can-Con Posted January 18, 2020 Author Posted January 18, 2020 Worked on my grille today. 19 strips of sheet plastic in 2 thicknesses stacked on top of each other and sanded to shape. Needs to be cleaned up a bit more and painted.
Bucky Posted January 18, 2020 Posted January 18, 2020 Grille looks good!! Also, looks a bit tedious!! LOL
Can-Con Posted January 27, 2020 Author Posted January 27, 2020 The grille is finished and I'm working on the under hood area and interior. The long ram intake manifolds were in a junk box I bought at a show for $5. and the valley cover is foil cast from one in another junk box. I'm smoothing out the inner fenders and will I try to match the fade on the body. The interior is almost ready for some paint. I see a couple spots that need a touch more filler.
Koellefornia Kid Posted January 27, 2020 Posted January 27, 2020 Every time I take a look in here I have to wipe the drool from my keyboard! The grille looks great!
Modlbldr Posted January 28, 2020 Posted January 28, 2020 This is looking very nice! I like the custom touches you have done. You're giving me some great ideas for mine. Thanks. Later-
David G. Posted January 28, 2020 Posted January 28, 2020 Excellent progress. love the paintwork! David G.
Can-Con Posted February 24, 2020 Author Posted February 24, 2020 Finished up the firewall. Kit part with the molded wireing smoothed off, painted to match the rest and "chromed" the master cylinder and heater box with a molotow pen. And have the interior about 1/2 done. The pleated inserts will stay pearl white and the rest will be blue. This is my first time trying to do pipeing on the seats.
Bucky Posted February 24, 2020 Posted February 24, 2020 Piping looks good! What did you use for that?
Can-Con Posted February 24, 2020 Author Posted February 24, 2020 2 minutes ago, Bucky said: Piping looks good! What did you use for that? I first tried stretched sprue but it didn't work out too well for me so I ended up using some 28 gauge wire.
Bucky Posted February 24, 2020 Posted February 24, 2020 I use brass wire for mine. it measures .030".
doggie427 Posted February 24, 2020 Posted February 24, 2020 Really coming along great Steve. The finish line is in sight.
Can-Con Posted March 6, 2020 Author Posted March 6, 2020 Finally got the seats smooth enough to paint. Here you can see how much depth I added to the floor. Not %100 happy with the shade of blue but it should look OK with the rest of the detailing done and installed in the body. The silver on the door panels and console is supposed to represent brushed aluminum. You can just barely make out the PE power window switches on the arm rest areas.
Nazz Posted March 7, 2020 Posted March 7, 2020 This is quite the build you have here Steve. Very nice! Great craftsmanship !
Can-Con Posted March 7, 2020 Author Posted March 7, 2020 Here's a couple shots of the finished interior. I was going to mount the mirror on top of the dash but it would interfere with the windshield. I put a touch of clear blue on the switches and shift lever to simulate clear plastic pieces. Looking at the pics now makes me want to go back and tweek the fit of the pleated panels in the doors.
Can-Con Posted March 20, 2020 Author Posted March 20, 2020 The engine's almost done ,, just needs a little cleanup and a bracket for the alternator.
