Russell C Posted September 23, 2021 Posted September 23, 2021 Today's mail delivery was this parts pile I got from a cheap "make offer" eBay listing, which I temporarily propped back together for this photo. Rough, but it has the assortment of parts I need for another odd rod project.
NOBLNG Posted September 23, 2021 Posted September 23, 2021 Picked up this one last week for 5 bucks at a flea market. The engine is really glued in well….and not even close to the correct place.?
Paul Payne Posted September 23, 2021 Posted September 23, 2021 Scored this one from a fellow club member many many years ago- at the time I got it it was partially assembled- this is how much I have disassembled so far. There are a few missing pieces- instrument panel, center console and shifter, and one carb air scoop. Fat chance of replacing them, and no instruction sheet to show what they might have looked like. If anyone has pix of one they have built, could you post?

If anyone has pix of one they have built, could you post? Is that one of those Renwal Revivals? They were complete fantasy anyway, so replace the dash and console with anything you like that will fit. It looks like you have everything here you need to build a nice model. Do it YOUR way and have fun with it! Drive on!
Paul Payne Posted September 23, 2021 Posted September 23, 2021 Rich, will do! Yes, it's the Renwal Revival Jordan Playboy- I would love to get a box and instruction sheet for it- when I get around to this one, I'm thinking of midnight blue metallic with a slate blue interior- the chrome is in pretty good shape, so maybe some Molotow touch up- also plan on wider whitewall tires- all these kits had really narrow tires for modern day cars!
wrenchr Posted September 23, 2021 Posted September 23, 2021 That Renwal looks like something Elvis would of drove / owned.
Paul Payne Posted September 23, 2021 Posted September 23, 2021 Closest in real life would be a Stutz Blackhawk.
Oldcarfan27 Posted September 23, 2021 Posted September 23, 2021 This is one of my favorite threads. Love it when it gets revived!
Bucky Posted September 23, 2021 Posted September 23, 2021 Some of those Renwal kits were based on actual vehicles that had been customized. I believe it was Exner who had a hand in the designs. Currently, I have several Renwal kits, but the Jordan Playboy is a hard one to find at my kind of price.

If anyone has pix of one they have built, could you post? Here's a built-up. The engine is a near carbon-copy of the 289 in the AMT 65-66 Mustang annuals with Cal Custom-type air cleaners/scoops. Out of the box the kit looks so-so, but swap the wheels out and lower it a tad and it looks much better.
Paul Payne Posted September 23, 2021 Posted September 23, 2021 That is a gorgeous build up- and thanks for the picture of the center console and shifter! That is also the exterior color I was thinking of. The wheels look like they may have come from the 65 Riviera kit. The kit wires aren't too bad except for those flat rim faces- maybe trim rings or grinding down a set of wheels until only the rim faces remain could snap them up. Thank you much for sharing!

Paul Payne Posted September 25, 2021 Posted September 25, 2021 Try the old freezer in a plastic bag method- couldn't hurt!

I have another identical kit that has not been started. 1 hour ago, Paul Payne said: Try the old freezer in a plastic bag method- couldn't hurt! I will scrape as much glue off as I can first. If I can’t gently pry them apart then, I will try the freezer.

Steering column doesn’t meet up with firewall. Distributor and coil locations reversed. RH valve cover is upside down. And…the exhaust manifolds are glued with the outlets facing the block. I sincerely hope that this was owned by some youngster who was in just a little over his head and didn’t get the guidance they needed.
Snake45 Posted September 27, 2021 Author Posted September 27, 2021 Here's a couple glue bomb projects I'm working on now. 1. '65 El Camino: Bought this a couple years ago planning to use some parts of the body to repair a couple AMT '65 Chevelle AWB racers that need work. Couple weeks ago I ran across it and got the idea to build it up as a "Street Outlaw-ish" junkyard street monster. The black paint turned out to be hiding a multiple of sins. After stripping, it was revealed that a camper top had been HEAVILY glued on, the glue soaking the black paint right into the plastic. I've now got 3 or 4 hours into cleaning up the mess with a couple of special files (rifflers). Got the top of the bed about 95% done but there's also a lot of damage where the custom rear pan was glued on. The taillights are toast and that will have to be addressed. I had a second body on hand and stripped that one too. It's better in some ways, especially around the rear pan/bumper area, but has a hole in the roof as well as bad damage around the bed top. I'm gonna TRY to drive on and use the first body, but it's good to know I have this one for backup. Whatever works.... 2. '65 Galaxie: This one was complete and looked like a quick, easy Snake-Fu "rescue," but when I started trying to give the paint a light polish, it was quickly apparent that it was VERY thin and wasn't gonna stand up to it. The body's currently floating in Lake Purple and will get the equivalent of an Earl Schieb replaint. 3. '70 Chevelle SS: This one's at the other end of the glue bomb spectrum. It looks in pretty nice shape at first, but has turned out to have a LOT of annoying little issues. Been working steadily at it, though, and might have it ready for reassembly as early as tomorrow. 1
roadhawg Posted September 28, 2021 Posted September 28, 2021 I have a soft spot in my heart for neglected glue bombs. I also like '61-'64 Fords, so when this poor mangy puppy showed up on eBay a few years ago, I couldn't say no. It had the lighting system, and I still have it....I just didn't use it when I rebuilt it. Before and after restoration pictures. 1
Gramps46 Posted September 28, 2021 Posted September 28, 2021 I found these glue bomb Corvettes at a club meeting several years ago and could not resist. Not sure yet what I am going to do with them. Fortunately they are not painted. I probably will keep the '64 as a period piece and will restore the coupe if I have the correct hubcaps.

Those are magnificent! I think I'd polish out the white plastic on the '64 and leave it, as you say, a period piece. That '65 seems to be an MPC. Very desirable and restorable, well worth the effort. Didn't I send you a set of ModelHaus '65 wheel covers in a deal we did a couple years ago? I have plenty of the AMT '65-type alloy knockoff wheels, too, if you could use those.

Snake, you sure did, your memory is better than mine! I am good to go on the '65.

I've never invested time or money for a built model that looks like poop box material just because I might be interested in the subject matter. I prefer starting fresh from new or old virgin unbuilt.
