Ron, the old magazines from the 60's and 70's are a lot better than the magazines you'll find on today's racks. I

Just making a statement like this makes you an old fart! Ah, the good ol' days when things were much better than now. . .

Don't worry, I feel the same way. :D

An old fart? Well you make a good point there, and I'm happy and lucky to have reached my age as a lot of people are less fortunate.

It wasn't meant as a put down - being an old fart is something to be proud off.  Like you said, it is a fortunate thing to be still alive, and to have a perspective on how (much better) things were in the past.

I graduated in 1976.  When I joined Facebook about 10 years ago, it wasn't an hour before someone from my class contacted me. They had a "Class of 76" page. It was interesting and that first year we had an impromptu reunion at a local pub.  We've had three other get togethers, including an official 40 year reunion.  Now I banter with these folks on Facebook daily and I have more friends from high school than I did in high school.

Lots of 76 grads on here.  I have been to a reunion about every ten years.  In the last five years or I can see what everyone is up to on Facebook.  The people that tend to go to reunions were very active in HS sports or clubs and they like to relive their glory days.  I like to go just to see how old they look in person and at 58 without any gray hair I must have drank from a different water fountain than anyone else.

I am off to my 50th anniversary in July!  Frankly, I am just glad to be able to do this.  Some times 1967 seems a couple of days ago and others a century.  A lot has happened in 50 years and I look forward to renewing old friendships. It was a small class by many standards as it was from a school in the western panhandle of Nebraska so not a huge number of people. For all you young whippersnappers, don't be depressed about how long ago it was.  Be glad you made it this far and that you still have time ahead of you.

Ha! In 1967 I was just in the first grade, and got my first pair of glasses! I can still remember my first grade teacher's name, and to my surprise, I found out that she's still living! I connected with her on Facebook, and she says that she gets surprised by the number of people that have gotten in touch that she hasn't seen for many, many years. :)

My 50th reunion was in August 2013. A website was set up in October 2012. I did my part by finding 60+ contacts. The website contained a memorial section. As time progressed, the realization came to me that the vast majority of people that I would enjoy contact with were no longer alive. I decline going in at the last minute. I didn't feel like spending a total of $600 to travel from Central Florida to Bloomfield Hills Michigan and spend a couple of evenings with a bunch of old people I really didn't know. Some voiced their disappointment, but it didn't matter. Bill, I got married on December 23, 1967. It was 3 weeks before my 22nd birthday.

Bill, you and I are the same age. In second grade, I would have sworn that my teacher was seven feet tall and 80 years old. I didn't stay in contact with her, but my parents did because she lived nearby. She attended my mom's memorial in 1999. I was surprised to see that she had shrunk to about 5' 5" and had just had her 80th birthday. :D

I've never been to one of my HS reunions, and will probably never go to one. It may seem somewhat narrow minded, but I don't want to see a bunch of fat old ladies and men, that I still remember as being teenagers.

Went to my 20th, it was actually sort of cool. Made the 30th and not so good. The 50th was last year and blew it off.

And for the comments on magazines, will agree about what's on the rack. Still a lot of good mags around but unless you've got access to a real newsstand you have to search them out. Which is why even with cutting back I still have around 15 subscriptions.

My 50th will be in October of this year.  I have been away from this area for the majority of my adult life, 21 years in the military then later 12 years in ministry, so I grew up differently and away from all of them.  I have made it back for a couple reunions.  Since returning 5 years ago I have been in contact with a few members of my class, we get together once or twice a year and have dinner.  In high school it was The Beach Boys, Jan & Dean, and the  Beatles.  In my early military career it was Grand Funk Railroad, Iron Butterfly, and Black Sabbath.

Forty  nine, enjoy life while you can, and not you can't go back to being 21 again either as this is no "dress rehearsal." Hopefully you'll have many good years ahead of you as many people don't.
