Davoski Posted February 22, 2018 Posted February 22, 2018 (edited) Hi guys, So we all like model cars but they don't all have to Rods, Drags or Muscle, right? I tried for some lateral thinking with this one - Mr Gru's car from Despicable Me. The car is a 3D print from a file downloaded from thingiverse.com. The windows, cornices and awning are 3D prints from my own drawings based on a screen grab from the movie. The brickwork is a laser print on photopaper and it is all mounted on Depron foam in a $2 second hand picture frame so I can hang it on the wall. Progress pics are at: www.facebook.com/pg/davidsmodelshowcase/ (I may do an On The Workbench if there is enough interest). Here is the original screen grab I used: And here is my result: Hope you like it! Edited February 22, 2018 by Davoski
Jonathan Posted February 22, 2018 Posted February 22, 2018 That is the coolest thing I've seen all day!

Eric Macleod Posted February 22, 2018 Posted February 22, 2018 This is great. I can't let my kids see it or id be out buying a 3d printer tomorrow. Come to think of it, if my wife told me to build it... Excellent work. It made my day.
matthijsgrit Posted February 22, 2018 Posted February 22, 2018 That's great! Out of the box thinking and building at it's best.
Mr. Metallic Posted February 22, 2018 Posted February 22, 2018 Love the picture frame idea, great presentation of a unique vehicle. I've always loved that vehicle since the first time I saw the movie. Just too cool.
Anglia105E Posted February 23, 2018 Posted February 23, 2018 Brilliant thinking on your part David, and although I have never seen that car before.... now I want one! David

David It is from one (or more?) of the Despicable Me animated movies, the movie that introduced Minions. Go watch it - you know you want to!
Anglia105E Posted February 23, 2018 Posted February 23, 2018 Yes but I'm only 64 David..... who's gonna take me to see the film? David

It adds a whole new dimension to this hobby (see what I did there?)

Jim N Posted February 23, 2018 Posted February 23, 2018 Great work and a really cool way to display the model.

GerN Posted February 24, 2018 Posted February 24, 2018 It is wonderful to see such well-executed creativity, and such a fun subject!
unclescott58 Posted February 24, 2018 Posted February 24, 2018 I'm not a big fan of the vehicle itself. But, I can echo just about everything else others have said above. It's a very nice model. And if I don't really care for it, I'm glad to see it. You did a great job.
misterNNL Posted February 24, 2018 Posted February 24, 2018 Kudos on a really unique build and method of presentation. I like seeing out of the box thinking when done at this level. Great stuff! Thanks for sharing.
