cobraman Posted March 6, 2018 Posted March 6, 2018 Some of you may remember me posting about 2 months ago that I had to put my cat Cali down. Well today I had to put down her sister Shelby. Same problem, kidney failure. No pets left now. I had rescued both of them and had them for 10 to 11 years. They were said to be 7 or 8 when we adopted them. Came home to a empty house. Not sure if I am up to getting another one but they were great cats and good company for me.
cowboy rich Posted March 6, 2018 Posted March 6, 2018 Sorry to hear that, it' a pretty empty feeling coming home to no pets. At least you got to enjoy them for a good long time. Who knows maybe one will show up and adopt you?
vintagedragcrazy Posted March 6, 2018 Posted March 6, 2018 Sorry to hear that buddy they are just like your kids and hard to lose them. vince
LDO Posted March 6, 2018 Posted March 6, 2018 I'm sorry for your loss. They are like family. It takes a while to get used to your little buddy being gone.
Zoom Zoom Posted March 7, 2018 Posted March 7, 2018 Sorry to hear about your loss, I know what you're feeling, it's awful when it happens...last year I went through the same thing, losing both of my beloved senior kitties 8 mos. apart, one to kidney failure, the other to cancer. Needless to say the house was too quiet (first time in about 35 years w/o a cat in the house), with some encouragement and researching the local animal rescues I quickly adopted a sweet, happy 2 1/2 year old kitty just before Thanksgiving, and in January adopted a 4 month old male kitten from the same rescue organization/fosters who has been awesome as well, we immediately bonded and he's a sweet lap hog and he's got his older sister playing like a kitten too.
Dave Ambrose Posted March 7, 2018 Posted March 7, 2018 I'm sorry to hear about your cat. It's so hard to say that final goodbye. They insinuate themselves into your life, and in my case, the hobby table too.
Ace-Garageguy Posted March 7, 2018 Posted March 7, 2018 Sorry, Ray. I know what it's like to lose a long-time furry friend.
HomerS Posted March 7, 2018 Posted March 7, 2018 I've had to do it three times.....it doesn't get any easier! My greyhound was the most heart wrenching as his life was cut short because of the care they DON'T get at the racetracks when they are young. You can take comfort knowing they knew they were loved and had a great home for most of their lives. Far too many other animals don't get that kinda home.

NYLIBUD Posted March 7, 2018 Posted March 7, 2018 That sucks.I know exactly how you feel.I had 3 cats.I had to put two of them to sleep, and one died with no warning.Just found him on my couch. No more pets for me.
slusher Posted March 7, 2018 Posted March 7, 2018 So sorry Ray,, there are many cats and kittens that need homes if you change your mind. I adopted a kitten last May.
1972coronet Posted March 7, 2018 Posted March 7, 2018 Thank you for rescuing them , and for being their guardian .
crazyjim Posted March 7, 2018 Posted March 7, 2018 Sorry for your loss, Ray. I know the pain of losing critters.
unclescott58 Posted March 7, 2018 Posted March 7, 2018 Sorry to hear about this Ray. My cats over the years have always been more family than pets to me. So I understand your loss.
cobraman Posted March 7, 2018 Author Posted March 7, 2018 Thank you guys. Loosing two cats in only a bit over two months was a shocker. Not sure I have the heart to take on another one.

Not sure I have the heart to take on another one. I know how you feel. After I had to put Spooky down, several people offered me kittens, but an old friend isn't replaceable like worn out socks. I've been semi-adopted by a feral momcat who has a family now, and it's nice to watch them grow up. They live under the house and are very wary of humans, but they've realized that food magically appears when they hear me in the morning, and when I get in at night. That's about as close to having another pet as I feel like for now.

disabled modeler Posted March 8, 2018 Posted March 8, 2018 Ray... I am very sorry for your loss brother. There is a huge difference between pet owners and pet people...to us their just like our own kids and treated as such. Id say get another one to share your time with...we lost a few to the same issues..one had to be with me all the time when I was home she was 20 years old. We adopted a stray male last year..he has seem to taken over for her and has the same traits ...makes one wonder ..huh..? Id get another one Ray...they cant replace the ones lost but they try.
High octane Posted March 8, 2018 Posted March 8, 2018 Having pets at home is NOTHING like having children.

Renegade Posted March 9, 2018 Posted March 9, 2018 The loss of a pet is tragic. Even though we know it will happen, we are never ready for it. Hope you can love another, or two, or three, but until your ready, Hang in there.
