pack rat Posted March 12, 2018 Posted March 12, 2018 Another one finished. I picked up this damaged promo a few years ago. If you don't mind simple curbside builds these things are a great way to fill holes in the collection without breaking the bank. This one had damage to the roof and drip rails on both sides. After performing the required body work, I modified the chassis to improve the stance, swapped the skinny tires for some old AMT Polyglas, then the rest was just painting/detailing.
'70 Grande Posted March 12, 2018 Posted March 12, 2018 Really, really nice! That repair work you did to the roof looks outstanding! i wonder how it got that original damage?!?! Your paintwork and finish work looks great, too... nice save!
Snake45 Posted March 13, 2018 Posted March 13, 2018 You did great! I'd be proud to have that one on my shelf myself. Model on!
spencer1984 Posted March 13, 2018 Posted March 13, 2018 Wow, beautiful job bringing this back to life!
1972coronet Posted March 13, 2018 Posted March 13, 2018 Outstanding Olds , Mike ! WOW !! Those '68 Oldsmobiles are some of the most beautiful cars ever --- yours exemplifies that point !
Hmann68 Posted March 13, 2018 Posted March 13, 2018 Great restoration! The 68 is my fav 442. Love the dashboards in those cars!
StevenGuthmiller Posted March 13, 2018 Posted March 13, 2018 Wow! I love it! I've been keeping my eye out for any kind of '68 442 for a while now, but they're very tough to find. Yours is beautiful. It's missing one thing that sets the '68 apart though. The iconic vertical fender stripe!! Steve
Ron Hamilton Posted March 13, 2018 Posted March 13, 2018 Excellent. I would love to have a 68 Hurst Olds. One Day.
berr13 Posted March 13, 2018 Posted March 13, 2018 You must be a magician! That's a heck of a makeover! Beautiful!!
peekay Posted March 13, 2018 Posted March 13, 2018 Great job on the repairs and a beautiful end result.

Steve I tossed the idea around, but I really think the car looks much better without it. I have another light blue one on the to-do pile that will get black stripes to match a 1:1 that I remember admiring years ago....if I ever get around to it.
disabled modeler Posted March 13, 2018 Posted March 13, 2018 Beautiful stunning work Mike...! I love promos and the curbside kits...there is nothing wrong with them in my opinion...just look at yours.
espo Posted March 13, 2018 Posted March 13, 2018 What a difference from the Dog Chewed ? Promo to what you have here. The very clean trim and interior really look great.

The '68 looks too much like the '69 without the stripe in my opinion, & the '69 is just generally a better looking car to my eye, so if I had a choice between a '68 without the stripe & a '69, I'd take the '69. That stripe is one of the bolder design cues that Olds did on the 442's, & it's very different. That's probably why I really like the stripe so much......just different. Steve
yellowsportwagon Posted March 13, 2018 Posted March 13, 2018 Man I love it,those slit taillights on a 68 and ram air scoops hidden between the Headlights on a W30. Doesn’t get much sexier. You did this justice!!
