Here’s what it looks like now. I had stripped the bad paint job off.  The bodywork sucked, the doors don’t exactly fit, nor had I figured out how to hinge them. I’m not looking for perfection, just to let it out of the box!

So we do have the traditionally required 8, and I'm of course in for 9. Not sure yet what I'll do. 

 

Rebuilds/restorations/rescues/reconstructions of old built models don't count, UNLESS the re-work started over a year ago and was abandoned, same as any other project.  I've got you down for that Camaro; Welcome aboard!

Cool!  Thanks Snake45, got it and will git er done.  That paint with clear should be plenty dry to sand and polish after 40 years, ya think?

 

So do I need to wait for April - or probably in my case, October 2021 to be able to start the Triumph?  Or can I start it soon and have it done by end of the year?  In other words, simply are these 90 day or 365 day projects?

Each round is a  quarterly deal. I'm happy to see this thread continue! I started a new project on Christmas, so am out for this round. I aim to be finished with it, and ready for the next round, with a Monogram Edmonds Modified I started a million or so years ago!

This round ends March 31. You can start a project anything between now and then. You can do as many projects in a round as you want--I think the personal record is three, or is it four?

As I understand it, you started that Triumph back in the '70s, but haven't worked on it for a long time. If that's the case, it's eligible for this round.

I got back into scale autos as an adult maybe 5 or 10 years ago. Completed a few models and then got distracted by other interests.  Over the past two years now I'm retired I've got back into the hobby and find I am building up a "stash".  This Lotus was started over 5 years ago and has been living in the bottom of my stash crate.  There isn't all that much to finish.  This thread has inspired me to getter done so count me in.

Porsche 934 RSR

This finally made its way to the bench, hard to believe the last time I touched it was back in 2007. Getting back to this project has also reignited my Stuttgart focus, pulling out other 911s in the stash and reading two excellent books.

Today I finally faced my block in beginning to complete the 934. While I don’t mind working with BMF, black semi-gloss trim is panic time for me. So began blackening the side frames with mixed results using the Micron markers. Still have the passenger side to do and then plenty of touch ups... takes quite awhile to dry, challenging my patience. The rest I now plan to mask and hit with X-18! 

Had a look at other bits to complete and re-familiarize myself with the build. The kit provides an excellent P/E fret with a multitude of screens, pedals, mirror faces, hood pins and other bits.

I added the black rubber lines around the rear tail lights. Previously clear red and orange with silver for the back ups was used to colour the transparent kit piece. Afterwards BMF was applied to the back to provide a reflective surface.

The chassis is a detailed curbside pan which benefits from paint detailing. I need to repair the front tire and install the plug wires to complete it.

Update on the 77 AMT Camaro, been in the box for 30 plus years.....

Rubbed out the Camaro that was in mothballs.  Also a little comparison to the newer AMT tooled car.  And some engine detail with guitar wire for fun.

Update on the 934 RSR Porsche:

Spent some time getting the interior tub prepped for assembly. Applied gentle weathering through the use of dry brushing with metallics to indica wear especially the driver’s footwell, followed by a wash over certain areas to create depth. Also applied a wash to the orange leather on the seat before applying the decal seat belts.  (Note that in the photo showing the great P/E pedals, the floor hasn’t been treated to a wash yet; compare the pan in the other two snapshots.) 

There is still the roll bar assembly to go in. It’s already built and treated to a chrome finish. That will complete the interior tub. There is still a lot of detailing and construction on the body. To be followed by more decals on the body.

The window trim done with the Micron pens turned out to be a disaster. After two days of drying, all the worked was easily wiped clean with a q-tip! Went back to the tried and true bottle and paint brush. Using a small chisel point brush I completed both side, including the interior trim. The remainder of the black body trim I’m going to mask and use the air brush, with the expectation of better results with these shakey ole hands.

All of that ought to bring me close to gettin’ her done!

A few more steps today, the interior mock up just needs to be fixed inplace. Also epoxied the renegade front wheel assembly and using the posable steering the Porsche is heading port side, matching the steering wheel’s yellow stripe. The body is now masked for completing the black trim around the windscreen. Will also do the back black trim with a brush as well.

It’s been a while since I’ve made any progress on anything (except going through 40 years of old car magazines) but I did make some progress on the mystic Cobra and hope to finish it this month.  The last few months have felt like Groundhog Day every day.

Other than one part GoodbuildNY is sending me this one is done finally.  I really like this Colorshift paint.  Now it’s on to that MPC Cobra II.

That’s one good looking ride! The engine bay is very convincing, right down to the wrinkled decal on the radiator support. (I’m still not sure that’s not a 1:1 engine bay.??)Great job!

Thanks so much.  It would overheat since it’s missing the upper radiator hose. ?  If I added plug wires it would fool me too for a minute.

After staking my claim in this round with the Cadillac I thought I'd better do something with it.

After a bit of soap and water then some resin polish:

 

It's never going to be gleaming, but without sacrificing all that BMF it never will be, so let's say it's a timeworn survivor.

Main thing I've got to sort is the rear platform. Found a bit of thin plywood which I'll varnish up - if it was on display in the open I don't think the scale would be very realistic. I'll transfer the shape over from the carboard template.

I bought these brass fittings and wire years ago. I'll make up some rails for the platform and I've just ordered another set so I can make up a rack for the roof.

Well, having arrived at the end of the year and the close of the current BOYD build thread, I need to admit that my Tall T Coupe has proven to be a Herculean task that remains far from finished. As it’s the second attempt I need to disqualify my build.

It’s Testor’s Colorshift spray paint which I bought at Michael’s.  They sell it at Hobby Lobby also.  They recommend using the metallic black base coat first. Retail is about $9 a can but it lays on really well.

I have a confession - Ford did not make a Mystichrome Cobra convertible in 1996 but why let that stop me from making my own.  I added a quick video to show off the changing colors.

Rex....I used the Testors Color Shift myself on an Altered Dragster model a couple of years ago; I too was happy with how it turned out. 

If I am remembering correctly (it was 25 years ago this month IIRC) when we launched the real SVT Mystic Cobra at the 1996 Chicago Auto Show, our talking points suggested multiple (rather than just two) color shifts.  The paint was super-expensive to purchase from the supplier and used the same type of pigments as were imprinted in currency at the time.    It was also nearly impossible to photograph accurately so our SVT dealers knew what they were ordering.  Only those who actually bought an SVT Mystic Cobra were allowed to buy paint for touchups and collision repair.   I am sure such restrictions are now long gone....

This Testor Color Shift paint does a really good job of approximating the real thing, at a realistic price point for serious model car hobbyists.

Tim, not to completely derail this thread (I think I can take license here as I am contributing with the 77 Camaro) but perhaps we crossed paths sometime?  We were working on the facelift of the round Probe at ASC, and we painted the show car in that "bruise" color as we so affectionately called it.  Might have been about the same time.

Now back on topic, I am nearly done with the Camaro.  Subject A or B?  I had this acetate front air dam from back in the day.  I really don't like it....think it won't make production.
