Koellefornia Kid Posted December 6, 2018 Posted December 6, 2018 Bought this Corvair kit earlier this year: I was surprised to find a convertible boot on one of the parts trees, though the manual doesn´t mention it. But the idea was born and I searched the internet for Corvair Convertible ideas. I found this drawing by my favorite automotive artist, Steve Stanford: The second I saw it I was completely hooked by the simple and clean look of it, so I just had to build my Corvair that way: The body was smoothed a little bit and the roof was cut off. Then I lowered the suspension and used Pegasus Chrome T´s with matching disc brakes. Sun visors came from my parts box and exhaust tips were scratch built from copper tubing. The engine was wired and the carburators were topped with resin cast custom air cleaners. This is a nice kit, by the way, with many cool options. I´m thinking of buying another one to build a coupe, maybe with a little italian supercar-attitude. Imagine a Lambo V12 in the back instead of a rear seat bench...??? 1
Snake45 Posted December 6, 2018 Posted December 6, 2018 Outstanding rendition of the original art! Well done and model on!
Dragonhawk1066 Posted December 6, 2018 Posted December 6, 2018 Spot on!! Very nice job transforming the artwork into your styrene piece of art. I believe you've inspired me to make this kit a priority in the near future.
Dave Darby Posted December 7, 2018 Posted December 7, 2018 I'm not normally a fan of those big wheels, but they sure look right on this one. You've pulled it together nicely. Great job!
mademan Posted December 7, 2018 Posted December 7, 2018 great work, always had a thing for Corvairs, such neat looking cars.
MrObsessive Posted December 7, 2018 Posted December 7, 2018 Ahhh very nice! I love Corvairs as I was literally surrounded by them as a kid, so I'm familiar with all their quirks and peculiarities. Could close my eyes and hear one start up from a block away!
Mike C Posted December 7, 2018 Posted December 7, 2018 Looks really nice, a cool custom. What will Ralph Nader say?
espo Posted December 7, 2018 Posted December 7, 2018 Very well done conversion. I'm about half way thru a build of this same kit. A Lambo V-12 would be exotic I'm doing a simple Corvette LS and Transaxle conversion. I like how you used the 140 H.P. engine and the K&N style air cleaners. With the stance, wheels and beautiful paint work this is really a great looking build.
Phildaupho Posted December 7, 2018 Posted December 7, 2018 WOW. This is beautiful. I have always admired Steve Stanford's designs and you have done a fantastic job in scale of capturing his vision
olschoolkid Posted December 8, 2018 Posted December 8, 2018 Very nice. Steve Stanford has many wonderful designs. I myself have this kit and am in the process of building it as a sort of sports car with a Lamborghini Diablo V12. I put the car away for a little while so I can think about how to build the rear suspension.
aurfalien Posted December 8, 2018 Posted December 8, 2018 Hi and wow, very very very kooooool! I also like your future project of Corvair with an Italian super car motif.
