mikemodeler Posted May 21, 2019 Posted May 21, 2019 As I wait for Moebius to release the Ford truck with service body, I got to thinking it's been at least 3 months since I pre-ordered them from Mega Hobby and it is probably the longest I have had to wait for something to be shipped. So, what's the longest time you have waited for something you ordered and paid for to be delivered? Try to keep it hobby related!
gtx6970 Posted May 21, 2019 Posted May 21, 2019 Well, I think the only thing ive ever ordered fro the hobby was BMF and I had it in maybe 3 or 4 days. Bought kits via ebay ( both old and new ones ) and I think the longest Ive ever waited was a few weeks
highway Posted May 21, 2019 Posted May 21, 2019 This is a very interesting question Mike, and while about the only things I've actually paid for and ordered hobby related was a spray booth and a project center tool box for the booth to sit on, both came in a timely fashion within a few days to my mailbox, or in the case of the tool box to my local Walmart for store pickup. I know I've seen quite a few horror stories though where people have spent hundreds on kits or hobby related items and it ends up with them being cheated out of their hard earned money and many times resulting in PayPal disputes or even mail fraud or legal disputes and the main reason if I can't get something from a trusted site, a trusted seller I've dealt with, or my local hobby shop, I don't need it. I like to see what I'm buying before I buy it, look it over and "flip through the pages" so to speak before I make any purchase especially on resale kits I purchase. I don't understand how anyone in this hobby can cheat someone out of their hard earned and sometimes limited money because at least where I come from, modelers help other modelers out for the good of the hobby!

Very well said. I enjoy this community where everyone is quite often really helpful. Even to a newbie. Now to get back on topic. Once I ordered a Mercedes kit from Plaza Japan because it was super cheap; cheaper with shipping to get it from overseas! Anyway, took 4 weeks and I finally heard from them. They couldn’t deliver it so it got sent back to Japan. They then overnighted it at their expense and I had it in 2 days I think. So a month and 2 days. It was a long time! But they handled it awesome.
landman Posted May 21, 2019 Posted May 21, 2019 I only have two instances I can think of. i often buy engines from breakers on eBay. The last batch hasn't arrived yet and it has been over a month. One day the tracking said it has been missent, whatever that means. Now it says it is on the way. The other time is when I was a kit a few years ago. I had ordered an Edsel Ranger kit from an ad on the back of a comic book. Never got it. Went to the post office everyday for weeks, always disappointed.
StevenGuthmiller Posted May 21, 2019 Posted May 21, 2019 I routinely had to wait at least 6 weeks for re-chromed parts from Chrome Tech. Steve

cobraman Posted May 21, 2019 Posted May 21, 2019 More than three (3) years ! I ordered and paid for two sets of tires from Ma's Resin and have still not received them. No answer to my emails and a couple phone calls went unanswered. Maybe they will come this year.
Ben Posted May 21, 2019 Posted May 21, 2019 Sent a truck cab out to be painted. Waited two years. It was painted then the guy sprayed gray primer over it because he wasn’t happy with it! I’m currently have a truck built by a friend. I provided everything needed and he’s doing the building. I think we’re going on six years now. I’m in no hurry though. I just told him to work on it whenever he feels like it. He already has a lot done and it’s lookin killer!

I guess I should count my blessings. I ordered from him years ago and it took 3 months, but I got my stuff. I'd say you have a better chance of winning the lottery than getting your tires at this point.
kelson Posted May 21, 2019 Posted May 21, 2019 Ordered a resin 65'vette convertible from Perry's resin years ago and I waited 6 months for it.
mrmike Posted May 21, 2019 Posted May 21, 2019 I ordered a resin hood and hood scoops from the old AFXN Scale Resin site many years ago. Took about five months to get my order and then they were gone.
Spex84 Posted May 21, 2019 Posted May 21, 2019 Took me about 3-4 months to receive a Modelhaus order once. Stuff ordered online routinely takes 3 weeks to arrive, or more. If we include video games in the hobby category, then how about the video game I pre-ordered, and it wasn't finished for 4+ years? By the time it was complete and "delivered", I wasn't interested any more, haha.
Rob Hall Posted May 21, 2019 Posted May 21, 2019 About 15 months from one resin caster, involved a lost shipment, a refund and eventual delivery.

If this was after they announced their retirement, then it was understandable as they got inundated with orders and their turnaround times jumped. I did wait for my final order for a year, but it was communicated well by Carol. They demonstrated for years the proper way to run a business and I can't recall ANYONE having a problem with them. I guess where I was going with this topic is when you order something and then get excuses about why they can't / haven't delivered what you ordered, but gladly took your money. I know we all have things come up in life unexpectedly, but with some it seems like they purposely string you along and despite your frustration, others come to their defense and tell you to be patient. Like my order with Mega Hobby, I knew they couldn't ship my order until they got their order from Moebius and I factored that in when I placed my pre-order. If a logical explanation is either given upfront or once an order is placed, I am of the mindset to believe them. It's when the excuses start and the math doesn't add up that ticks me off.
vairnut Posted May 22, 2019 Posted May 22, 2019 About $100 in resin parts - never received stuff or refund - Reliable Resin. Only time ripped off. Multiple 4-6 wk waits from Asia but I don't pay for the fast shipping either.
martinfan5 Posted May 22, 2019 Posted May 22, 2019 (edited) A long period of time , the DS21 was one , it was on pre order for well over year IIRC Edited May 22, 2019 by martinfan5
Tom Geiger Posted May 22, 2019 Posted May 22, 2019 Modelhaus! But it was the going out of business last hurrah and we knew up front!
ewetwo Posted May 22, 2019 Posted May 22, 2019 I won a front bumper for a 1963 Lincoln and it took over 2 weeks to get to me. I thought that was a bit long.

Two weeks? I know people who have been waiting 2 YEARS for something and still are being told "You will get what you paid for" with no date given!

I think RR will 'score well' in this topic. I have also ordered from him, and after a lot off ugliness I received my order in over a year. For the proces AND the product I wish I had never placed that order...
iamsuperdan Posted May 22, 2019 Posted May 22, 2019 Seven months. Won a couple of kits on eBay, and they appear to have been lost in shipping. They made it to the Global Delivery Center, then...poof. I've resigned myself to the fact that they aren't coming, and eBay have been no help. Because they were shown as delivered to the Global Delivery Center, they say it was delivered. And credit card sided with ebay. Ah well. At least wasn't a ton of $$$.

Nope, this was years earlier. I should have made the point that far from being annoyed, I was absolutely OK with the order arriving "when it's ready". It blows my mind when people freak out about not receiving things 2 days after they've ordered them, having never personally experienced shipping faster than about a week's time. Seems to me people need to be more patient. I understand there are vendors who drag things out and make customers wait longer than is acceptable, but I didn't realize this topic was specifically about that, considering there are a number of other threads that touch on the same issue. In that case...no-one has ever taken me for a ride, thankfully.
