Matt Bacon Posted July 6, 2019 Posted July 6, 2019 We've done the cars, and more than a few of us are "plane guys" as well... so here are a few starters for 10: ...and if I had to pick one, for so many reasons, it would have to be the last one... best, M.
64Comet404 Posted July 6, 2019 Posted July 6, 2019 I would choose a DH Comet over the Connie for my airliner pick, but I can't argue with most of your choices. Until I looked at your top pic, I never considered a Bugsmasher as being beautiful...
ranma Posted July 6, 2019 Posted July 6, 2019 These are for myself the two greatest looking ,even though they were made for war.
Hotrod 97 Posted July 6, 2019 Posted July 6, 2019 Here are mine. Again, just my humble opinion Martin JRM Mars water bomber North American P-51 Mustang Beechcraft 58 Baron Boeing B-17G Flying Fortress
Richard Bartrop Posted July 6, 2019 Posted July 6, 2019 A few from the jet age that I really like. I especially like the "engine with a few decorative fins" look for the Starfighter, and the spaceship look of the Blackbird.
Xingu Posted July 6, 2019 Posted July 6, 2019 While many do not like the looks of the F-22 Raptor, it is a thing of beauty when you see it fly.
Hotrod 97 Posted July 6, 2019 Posted July 6, 2019 Here are some more of my favorites. Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird Lockheed F-117 Nighthawk
DPNM Posted July 6, 2019 Posted July 6, 2019 Although on the wrong side I have to go with this: I will add a nod for the B-17 Flying Fortress too. There is a Bipe I like, need to find a pic. I'm not a big plane guy and I don't know the name of the Bipe. Kinda makes it a lot harder to search for a pic. I do know it when I see it though.
Earl Marischal Posted July 6, 2019 Posted July 6, 2019 (edited) I would also go with the Connie but for sheer looks it would have to be this: steve Edited July 6, 2019 by Earl Marischal update
TarheelRick Posted July 6, 2019 Posted July 6, 2019 (edited) Very biased on my picks. The C-130 Hercules is the first aircraft I worked on in the USAF and the F-4 (different variations F-4D, F-4E, RF-4C) was the one I worked on the most. Love those two warbirds. And I did work on this particular F-4D when I was in Thailand. Edited July 6, 2019 by TarheelRick
Snake45 Posted July 6, 2019 Posted July 6, 2019 Apparently, "beautiful" means different things in other parts of the the country and the world.... That said, anyone who thinks the Grumman F7F-3 Tigercat isn't beautiful just ain't hooked up right.
StevenGuthmiller Posted July 6, 2019 Posted July 6, 2019 A few of my favorite planes from WWII. Steve
SfanGoch Posted July 6, 2019 Posted July 6, 2019 (edited) My two picks. Boeing B-52 Stratofortress Convair B-58 Hustler Edited July 6, 2019 by SfanGoch
TarheelRick Posted July 7, 2019 Posted July 7, 2019 Almost forgot this one. Just plumb nasty, the AC-130 Spectre.

Pete J. Posted July 7, 2019 Posted July 7, 2019 (edited) You really have to pick your era. Pre WWII- The Bugatti P100. An aircraft not many know about WW II- Messerschmitt Me-262 Early Jet era- F-86 Saber especially if the aluminum is polished! Jet age airliner- Boeing 707 especially in Pan Am livery- Badass best design of all time Ox Cart- SR-71 Personal favorite- The predecessor of the 707 and the longest serving airframe currently in the Air force inventory 63 years and counting. On this last one, I admit to a personal bias! I have a little over 1,000 hours driving these beasts, but I still love the look especially in ghost gray. Edited July 7, 2019 by Pete J. change photo

Boeing B-52 Stratofortress Convair B-58 Hustler I agree on the Hustler, but have to respectfully disagree on the B-52. We didn't refer to them as BUFF's for nothing! For that genre of aircraft the B-47 looked much better because of the tandem bubble canopy.
Vince Nemanic Posted July 7, 2019 Posted July 7, 2019 For those of us aircraft ignorant, could you guys please identify these? Especially that red twin engine?

iamsuperdan Posted July 7, 2019 Posted July 7, 2019 Top three for me. The U2. There a certain elegance about this plane that I like. Speaking of elegance...the Corcorde. But for me, hands down, it has to be the Avro Arrow. So much potential that never came to be because of politics and kowtowing to other governments.
