Daytona-mino/elca-tona?

So, a buddy sent me a picture of what looked to be a chevy elcamino with a superbird/Daytona front clip and the wing on the back of the box, thought it looked cool, so, out came the saw and a half of an idea........

Kinda looks like what cartoons Kass and Bernie drive as a shop truck. 

I'd call it "El Daytono."

I would be tempted to "wrap" the protruding lower elco fender around under the nose, "air dam like"

The lower front treatment is still being assessed,  but ya, some sort of air dam is gonna happen, have a few ideas, but wanted to get the nose roughed in first with some primer on it just to get a feel. Should be interesting.

That is the picture I saw, I’m not good enough to make the charger fenders/hood work, so I just grafted the nose on, lol. Have an idea for the back end treatment, slightly different than what’s in those pics, but it is something I’m still undecided on. I’m sure this will take awhile to evolve though.

I think the front fenders on the blue car were pie sectioned. Maybe a 1-3" cut where the fenders meet the nose, and nothing at the firewall. It seems to be very smooth from the front edge of the Daytona nose to the windshield. I, not knowing anything at all about the prototype, would think they lined up the bottom of the Daytona nose with the bottom of the Chevelle fenders, then pie cut the Chevelle fenders/Charger hood to meet the top edge of the Daytona nose.

Either way, the Chevelle hood works fine with it. I'm pretty sure Dodge didn't tool up a new hood for the Daytona, they just used what they had laying about from a design perspective. It was the same hood as on your grandmother's 6-cyl Charger, maybe slightly modified to fit the new nose.

I'll be watching this very interesting project.

I started this one 30 years ago. I had an idea and I eyeballed where to cut the nose of the Camaro off. It lined up perfectly once I narrowed the Superbird nose about 1/8 inch. I also cut the bottom of the wing off so that the top was level with the roof. I stopped on it this time because the interior wasn't turning out as nice as I wanted. Hope you like it.

So, spent a little time today messing with this. Grafted the tail light panel out of the 70 superbird onto the body, shortened the height of it a touch, and sanded the outer edges to conform to the body, then cut the tail lamps off the elky bumper, and trimmed that to fit the new panel. Naturally, more body work is needed, but the base is there, just need to finesse it now. I was able to trim down the elky kit radiator, more like cut the mounting tabs off of it, and managed to mock that up in an acceptable position. So after that was figuring out the engine situation. I figured I had to go mopar, and it was a toss up between a 440 and a hemi, well, the hemi won out. Dug thru the spares boxes and found the extra hemi out of the 68 charger kit. So I built that up enough to start fitting in the chassis, then realized I didn’t have a mopar trans. So after some thought, I figured I’d cut the trans off the elky engine and use that.  another benefit of this decision is being able to use elky kit driveshaft, and having a reference point for the trans tailshaft. Ok, I got lazy a little, but it’s going to work out nice. I was also able to use the headers from the charger kit after some massaging. So, anyway, progress is being made. Thanks for looking.
