That's why I weather almost all my builds, bug splats if the paint is supposed to be shiny, it covers the dust specks. ? Thank you, appreciate it. I'm not happy with the pictures, still need to take the iPhone in to open up storage, so been using the Nikon with 300MM zoom lens, which has an extremely short depth of field. Am planning on taking glamor shots outside, starting with Sedona. I used AAA insurance sticker for the mirrors, instead of the dull photo-etch parts, glad you noticed that tiny detail! Oh yea, welcome to the forum! Thank you! Finishing is a feat unto itself, congrat me after the first contest. (fingers crossed) Since it's a replica, I was obligated to, a completely different frame of mind than kit bashing a fantasy. Thank you. Wow, thank you sir!? I wanted to do it justice, considering I skipped eating for a week to pay for the transkit. ? It's a sign that I have obsessive compulsive disorder, why some projects are still *in the box*. I know right? ? Thanks for following, appreciate it. Thank you too! Thank you. IMHO a rally model that is brand spanking new, and is really shiny, is fake looking. I've worked several rallies (stage worker, video and photography), even the professionally prepared cars are not polished shiny, the sponsor graphics are dull stickers, and the paint is factory paint that isn't waxed (in general). Private cars are usually beaters. ? Here is an example of "beater", would be a fun project. This team was leading the 2012 Prescott Rally, I witnessed them rolling it just before the end of the last stage! The second place car stopped, got the tow strap out, and towed them across the finish line! The leading team intentionally "forgot" to turn in their time card, giving the overall win to their rivals. Look how dirty it is, and that's after only about 150 miles of stages. LOVE that Scooby!!!!!!

89AKurt Posted September 4, 2019 Author Posted September 4, 2019 I had to fix the headlight covers, they were upside down, good thing used Elmers clear, plus I detail painted the rim. I poured sand into a cooking pan, knocked the bottom to create something like drifts, and made tracks. Had to aim down to avoid the lack of a proper background. My sophisticated photo "booth". ?

89AKurt Posted September 19, 2019 Author Posted September 19, 2019 Sorry, all I have done is make a display base. ? This does not qualify for the definition of a Diorama, otherwise I would post in the Diorama section (unless Admin suggests I do so). The IPMS has a definition of a diorama, and the Desert Scale Classic rules state a base should not be more than 2" beyond the model, which it does if the car was dead nuts centered. So it's just a display base. Wood came from a friend, some sort of exotic wood, the base is particle board so it shouldn't warp. I milled to shape on the table saw, with a ledge so I could put a glass box over it. Styrofoam cut with a hot-wire. After the glue set, I used the router with straight bit to cut down the edge, then used the Dremel to finalize the profile with a 45° angle. Sanded the frame, then applied Watco oil. Love that smell! ? First layer of Celluclay is applied. I add some Titebond glue for good measure. Used up my supply! Made wood tools, wheels for the tracks, a screed to make ripples, and a shaped stick for footprints. Found out Hobby Lobby does not carry Celluclay, but Michael's does, but that cost almost $30! ? Second layer has acrylic paint added. After drying in the pickup cab, I used hair spray to hold the Coral Pink Sand Dunes sand in place, several layers. (Funny thing, brand label says unscented, but 6th ingredient is perfume) Guess this will do. ?
Pete75 Posted December 30, 2019 Posted December 30, 2019 What a great build. Would've loved the Tamiya RC model back in the day. Shame they didn't do a 1/24 kit because I couldn't even begin to do all this; still, I enjoyed looking at yours! The display base really sets it off well ?

Sorry for the super delayed reply. Check out what else I have done.... I've always wanted to find a location that looks like North Africa. Must be one reason I like this subject, the geology is very similar to what can be found in the US's Southwest. Went camping last week near Monument Valley, specifically Valley Of The Gods. First day I found a wash that worked out. Pictures taken with the iPhone, and Nikon real camera. Some shots are cropped. It was ideal, had recently rained, no tracks in the sand. Here is the location: Now the punch line: Have to show the first camp site. The wash goes to the left. Now I'm annoyed, the back window cover has warped since I completed it, need to figure out how to bend without wrecking it.
Venom Posted November 1, 2021 Posted November 1, 2021 Wow Kurt, that one is awesome, and your weathering is superb??
doorsovdoon Posted November 1, 2021 Posted November 1, 2021 Fantastic build, weathering looks perfect.
MeatMan Posted November 3, 2021 Posted November 3, 2021 Sweet build and great dio ideas. I've got a 911 I plan to make into a rally car and this gives food for thought. Thanks for sharing.

Seen a few 911s given the rally treatment, the Singer’s Reimagined Porsche 911 Rally Racer Is Perfect for Getting Dirty is the most incredible version. Thanks to everyone else. ?
PatW Posted November 28, 2021 Posted November 28, 2021 Superb! A father and son team not far from here who build customer Porsche racers used to build these for Rothmans. 1
