I previously made a mold to cast these brake rotors, but I don’t like all the dimples for holes in them. So I drilled and filled every second set with .025 evergreen. The center hole is quite large so I also filled it and re-drilled a small pilot hole. Then I made a new mold.

After building my two TRAX shod vehicles I'm continuing with the DM Models Ford Sierra rally car.

So onto the decals..

The bootlid decal was too long so I have trimmed it with a craft knife. The edge will be covered by the rear boot mounted wing.

Nice work on those!

I used an old burnishing of a '32 Ford hood in tooling aluminum to test my paint scheme/idea for the Nostalgia Fueler. It's plain old Krylon gray primer, shot over with a mixture of a couple of Humbrol gold colors, cut with lacquer thinner. I taped off the panel, and shot Walmart Color Place gloss black over that. Once the tape was removed, I brushed some black Sign Painter's One Shot enamel onto a paper plate, and dabbed wrinkled plastic kitchen wrap into the paint, then onto the gold panel. I like it, a lot! Here, the left end of the panel was overcoated with Tamiya clear orange. I like that, even more! Disregard the red border. I don't care for that.?

Update on the DM Ford Sierra..

photo2-vi.jpg

The bootlid decal was too long, so I will clean that up with some brush painting.

Update 10.04.23 All decals on and bootlid spoiler attached.

photo1-vi.jpg

Front air dam test fitted.

Update 11.04.23

I've test fitted the front bumper and the light pod, and fitted the windows. I'm disappointed that I scuffed the white number square as the drivers window took a lot of fitting!

 photo2-vi.jpg

Nearly done, just a few more things to do, everything up to now has fitted OK, opening hole that parts attach to has been a major help for parts to fit first time.

14.04.23 Finished on Completed- Race Cars.

That’s a cool trick - nice work!  You can get a subtler version of the same trick by laying the Saran Wrap down on the paint (un-wrinkled) and smoothing it down with your finger then removing…gives a kind of marble effect!

Love seeing people’s paint experiments!

Spring has arrived, so I've finally been able to move the workbench back into the garage.

Perhaps this year is the year we finally get around to heating the garage.

Getting closer to having the body modifications done on my AMT 1993 F-150 XL project. Body side molding, wheel lip moldings have been sanded off, the front fuel filler door has been filled over, and the bumper is almost done being modified into the plain XL steel bumper. 31E71247-56F0-4CE8-B57F-621AD2017EA1.thumb.jpeg.c95d30784ef493239db2d438d918d8db.jpeg

That foil looks flawless.   Like it could actually be a separate piece of trim.  Excellent job.

Between work and the weather I'm not been able to get much of anything accomplished lately...

Finally today, I managed to get some stuff ready to paint...

Been pretty busy today.  It was a day of many firsts.  Lots of experimenting going on.
This morning I started off by experimenting with some Rustolium clear lacquer over various paints to see how compatible it is and how it would lay down.  Not too shabby I think.  It sprays really nice.  This is before polishing.

Next, I shot this Porsche body with Tamiya TS-26 pure white.  I’ve never used Tamiya spray cans s before, and I’m very impressed.  I’ll definitely be using them again soon.

Next up, got my Pintera back in primer again.

And finally, I shot this Camaro body with Dupli-Color GM torch red.  I’ve only sprayed this stuff on spoons before.  First time trying it for real.  It orange peeled a little, but I think I can buff it out and then clear coat it.  Going to try anyway.

Whew!  I think that’s about it for today.

All of your work there looks really good! Were you using the Perfect Match paints? ( I imagine you were.... ). The trick to spraying those is close, fast passes. It kinda dries in the air if too far from the substrate. Also, the first coat isn't going to cover very well.....

That all looks good!

Yup, it’s perfect match.  The first two coats came out very smooth, but not glossy.  I expected that.  So for the third coat I went a little heavier and that’s when I got the orange peel.  Maybe I should have kept going with the lighter coats?  Will it eventually gloss up if you keep applying light coats?

The Perfect Match paints DO need a clear coat..... Since they're a lacquer, you can use pretty much whatever clear you'd like. They make a clear in the small PM cans that works really good............

Got clear coat on both of these.  Rustolium lacquer on the Camaro and Dupli Color on the Pintera.  The Camaro will definitely need rubbed out.  Not sure about the other one yet but it’s looking pretty good.
