Tom Geiger Posted April 17, 2020 Posted April 17, 2020 I pretty much wrapped my Isolation 500 build today. I took some pix to check my work. I see a few little things ( like the hood badge coming off) that I will fix prior to some formal photos and Under Glass posts!

Wrestling all those fiddly little bits to the ground reminded me of why I build so few "rods" and so many musclecars, especially old crocks with 1-piece chassis. And today, it sat on its wheels for the first time. Edited April 17, 2020 by Snake45
Snake45 Posted April 17, 2020 Author Posted April 17, 2020 Got something accomplished I've been putting off for years. If you've bought an AMT Double Dragster in the last two or three decades, you might have noticed that the upper door line of the right side of the Fiat body is all screwed up. Apparently the mold is damaged. There's not only not a line there anymore, much of the line is now actually RAISED! Last night while watching TV, I started scribing out this line, and today did most of the finish scribing. It's not perfect, but it now looks hella better. I can now drive on with a Fiat project of some kind.

The street rod version of the kit has the chrome valve cover, chrome air cleaner over the single carb and a single exhaust down to a cherry bomb type muffler, which those dual pipes we both like exit. I would’ve loved to have dual carbs over a split exhaust, but it’s a quick build during captivity!

ChrisBcritter Posted April 18, 2020 Posted April 18, 2020 Got the last '63 Rivi wheelcover de-molded, along with some others, including (finally) ONE usable knockoff for the 1/24 T-bird wires . To muddle with something else, I tackled fitting the bumpers and Craftsman chassis to the AAM resin '66 Skylark. Hoo boy. Got some definite warping/spreading issues there. I'll have to dig out my Mod Stocker body to see where to tweak this thing; and Snake, yes, I already fixed the hump in the driver's door. Maybe if I'm lucky this will drive me back to finishing the '65 Nova.

StevenGuthmiller Posted April 18, 2020 Posted April 18, 2020 Adding some courtesy light detail to the door panels of my '64 GP by gluing down pieces of thinly stretched sprue. Steve
StevenGuthmiller Posted April 19, 2020 Posted April 19, 2020 Today I made a set of seat tracks to lift the seats up off of the floor and tilt them back slightly. Steve
89AKurt Posted April 19, 2020 Posted April 19, 2020 Does calling a project DONE qualify for posting here? ? Now for some non-model related stuff to accomplish, such as cleaning the house. ?
ChrisBcritter Posted April 19, 2020 Posted April 19, 2020 Made the chassis and bumpers fit the Skylark, pretty much. Looks like if I glue in the firewall just at the top and let it cure, I can pull in the sides by gluing the ends of the firewall to them.
Tom Geiger Posted April 20, 2020 Posted April 20, 2020 Started the new pair of 1950 Chevy pickups, curbside this time, on Friday. Got the wet sanding done today.
ZTony8 Posted April 20, 2020 Posted April 20, 2020 (edited) I finished two models I started quite a while ago- a Tamiya Ferrari Mythos and an MPC '50 Mercury.Build numbers 4 and 5 for the year. Plus I did more work on the Revell re-box of the leftover Accurate Miniatures Corvette Grand Sport so now it's about 50% done. I'm glad that I have 4 of the Accurate Miniatures boxings. Their instructions are much better than the Revell instructions. Edited April 20, 2020 by ZTony8
Tom Geiger Posted April 22, 2020 Posted April 22, 2020 Still working on the 1950 Chevy pickup curbsiders... there are some economies to building two at a time but you are still doing everything twice!
ChrisBcritter Posted April 22, 2020 Posted April 22, 2020 Poured a test shot of the '70 Caprice/Monte Carlo wheelcover in Tom P.'s mold, along with a few more T-bird knockoffs and a pair of '66 Vette open wheel backs. Fingers crossed.
Snake45 Posted April 23, 2020 Author Posted April 23, 2020 Got the remaining bodywork finished on my '66 Mustang street freak, I think. Should be ready for primer.
Tom Geiger Posted April 23, 2020 Posted April 23, 2020 Work on the pair of 1950 Chevy pickups... when you are trying to do a quick project and the voices in your head want woodgrain....

This is just a personal observation. Most of the older trucks with wooden floors, the floor was more on the order of a thin black protective paint finish. Even in later years, the '74 Chevrolet step side I bought new the wood was painted the same color as the body. Now with use the woodgrain would start to show thru the black paint to some extent depending on it's use.
Tom Geiger Posted April 23, 2020 Posted April 23, 2020 (edited) Agreed. Nice woodgrain is a restoration thing. I accurately painted the floor black on my detailed build. These are the charity giveaway trucks and it enhances their over all appearance. Edited April 23, 2020 by Tom Geiger
