hedotwo Posted March 11, 2020 Posted March 11, 2020 Finished my rescue AMT '59 Bonneville. It was in decent condition when I found it but I spent alot of time on the body work and paint. Obviously tires/wheels/interior needed attention too. I've recently begun taping/masking for much, if not all, of the chrome trim rather than BMF. It's time consuming taping but after spraying with the rattle can Spaz Stix it turns out pretty good in my opinion. This Bonny had all external badging sanded off, along with the door handles. I had to improvise with stuff from the junk box and the Tamiya TS-59 Light Pearl Red is taking liberties with the GM Orchid color of '59. Interior is typical garish, tri-color of that era for Pontiac (and others). The older I get the more I enjoy curbside stuff as I no longer have the steadiness and dexterity to do engine detailing that I can't avoid doing even if I tell myself I'm NOT going to do it ?. Thanks for looking. Rich 1
Modlbldr Posted March 11, 2020 Posted March 11, 2020 Wow! What a transformation. Your work on it is amazing. That color is beautiful. I'll have to get me some of that. Later-
StevenGuthmiller Posted March 11, 2020 Posted March 11, 2020 I thought that you might like to know Rich, in case you might like to make a change, the current re-pop of the AMT 1962 Buick Electra kit has correct 1959 Pontiac wheel covers as it's custom option. Steve
Rs27 Posted March 11, 2020 Posted March 11, 2020 Swell ! That’s a day night transformation from amateur to museum grade.
hedotwo Posted March 11, 2020 Author Posted March 11, 2020 Thanks for the tip Steve... I should have the Buick covers.
FordRodnKustom Posted March 12, 2020 Posted March 12, 2020 Outstanding save of a real classic. I especially like your "chroming" technique, never seen that before and might try it at some point. Thanks for sharing.
christian-w Posted March 12, 2020 Posted March 12, 2020 Sweet! Very nice restoration. This piece of plastic deserved a "new life". Very good work.

I use strictly Tamiya tapes of different widths and carefully/slowly trim with either a new xacto blade or a scalpel. Kind of the opposite procedure from BMF ? Rattle can Spaz Stix looks great and it’s easy peasy.
