Plowboy Posted April 19, 2020 Posted April 19, 2020 This old model was one that really got me into hot rods. It was an old glue bomb from my youth. All I had left of it was the body, interior, chassis and part of the front end. I started with chopping the top. Once I got it into shape, I painted it with Testors Inca Gold. I had the Cadillac engine from an AMT '49 Ford and added scratch built headers, scoop and a few details. The wheels came from the Modelhaus and the tires were hand painted. It's not much to look at. But, it's still one of my favorite hot rods! Since this build, I've built several more. Thanx for checking it out!
Bernard Kron Posted April 19, 2020 Posted April 19, 2020 I remember this from back in the old Scale Racing Lobby days. It impressed me then and it impresses me now. It's what got me following your work.
1930fordpickup Posted April 19, 2020 Posted April 19, 2020 Another nice model from your Bench Rodger.

alan barton Posted April 19, 2020 Posted April 19, 2020 To cut a classic 40 coupe up that much and still retain eye-pleasing proportions takes some serious talent! The white firewall works well with the whitewall tyres and I am in awe of how cleanly you painted them! Cheers Alan
Flatout Posted April 20, 2020 Posted April 20, 2020 A very cool and very different 40 Ford. You didn’t mention how long ago you built this but your work was very clean then and has gotten even better now. I always forward to seeing what you’re cutting up next. Thanks for sharing this and the rest of your work ?

Peter Lombardo Posted April 20, 2020 Posted April 20, 2020 Yeah, nothing wrong with this build, very well done a classic to be sure.
disconovaman Posted April 20, 2020 Posted April 20, 2020 (edited) These photos are ready to be on the top of the box selling models... Detailed to perfection and representing what traditional hot todding is all about. I'm glad it survived the glue bomb bin too. Edited April 20, 2020 by disconovaman
espo Posted April 20, 2020 Posted April 20, 2020 This is really an impressive looking build. You don't often see a fenderless '40. As others have mentioned the way you have kept the proportions of the body and I understand the '40 is considered one of the hardest bodies to chop and still look right. The radiator shell idea is also unusual and looks great. Very clean paint lines and engine detailing.
Koellefornia Kid Posted April 20, 2020 Posted April 20, 2020 always knew that a ´40 Ford would look cool without the fenders! Nice chop, also!

I actually cut the top off using the stacked cut off wheel method. Then I cut across the roof at the center of the door and center of the quarter window. I glued the three sections back on, filled in the gaps and did a lot of sanding!
