JollySipper Posted August 27, 2020 Posted August 27, 2020 Hey, guys! I've been making progress on a new build.... the 1/16 MPC Trans Am. So far i have the basis of the engine done.... and the dash is pretty much finished. I used the 'best model car parts' gauge faces, drilling out the gauges themselves and mounting the gauges from the back..... This kit is Huge! It's my first big scale automotive kit, hope I can do a good job on it....... Thanks for lookin' and comment freely.....
ksnow Posted August 27, 2020 Posted August 27, 2020 Looks awesome. I am also curious which year. I have a '79 10th anniversary in that scale. Always looking for inspiration.

espo Posted August 27, 2020 Posted August 27, 2020 Looking at the interior color made me remember a model Pontiac offered that was called "Blue Bird" and I think it was based on the Firebird Esprit. They were pretty cars.
JollySipper Posted August 27, 2020 Author Posted August 27, 2020 David, this is the inspiration pic that I've chosen the color combo from...... Very sharp car, I think!
Rodent Posted August 27, 2020 Posted August 27, 2020 Not to derail your thread, but I am going to be watching your build. I have never had one of these myself. Last weekend, a mother and her son approached me at HL and asked me a bunch of questions about paint, tools, glue, etc. She was trying to get him off of full time video games and they decided that he needed to build a model car. This is the kit he chose for his first-ever model. Not sure how old, I would say 14-15. I hope he has fun and doesn't run into too many issues with the kit. Beautiful blue BTW.

I agree with you on the color. The Blue Bird I mentioned was about the color of your interior in your build and that is why I thought of it. I have always liked the Screaming Chicken on the T/A's the best.
Elmer Fudd Posted August 28, 2020 Posted August 28, 2020 (edited) That's nice work so far! Am gonna get my head shot off but that is a Holley carburetor in the 1st pic and i cannot remember such a factory install on a street Pontiac engine after 1964. DISCLAIMER! i am not perfect! Hoping that the air cleaner will hide the MPC error! Edited August 28, 2020 by Elmer Fudd

Getting some stuff primed today, hopefully I'll have you guys an update in the next few days......... Thanks!
TransAmMike Posted August 29, 2020 Posted August 29, 2020 It's certainly up to you and please don't take this wrong, but I'd get some Pontiac Engine blue paint for the engine.
Dann Tier Posted September 6, 2020 Posted September 6, 2020 I owned one of these, and yours is looking Fantastic!!!
JollySipper Posted November 19, 2020 Author Posted November 19, 2020 Guys, I've decided to pull this huge monster of a kit back out! It got put on the back burner while I worked on the '49 Ford.... I believe I'm gonna try a different approach this go with this kit, and add some details like plumbing and some simple wiring. First detail I tried was the vacuum canister on the shaker's snorkel... Looks okay I think! The hose is just a piece of insulated wire..... Hard to get a pic of, but it shows plainly in real life. Also working on the white letters on the tires, here's a couple done...... I will be getting the big scale '57 T-Bird and plan on using the aluminum slots on this build. I need to order some materials, but the plan is to do the major under-hood stuff like heater hoses, fuel lines, brake lines, etc....... So, this is back on the bench, but will be a long-term build.... Thanks for looking and comment freely!
JollySipper Posted November 23, 2020 Author Posted November 23, 2020 Working on interior stuff for now.... The front seats have been painted, and I'm working on the door panels. Still need to do the carpet part on those..... Thanks.....
Sam I Am Posted November 23, 2020 Posted November 23, 2020 Glad to see some updates. Love the air cleaner details.
Mattilacken Posted November 24, 2020 Posted November 24, 2020 (edited) Looks good! The MPC kits looks to have more detail than the revell counter parts. Will be following! might get me an MPC trans am to build my muscle truck. Edited November 24, 2020 by Mattilacken
slusher Posted November 24, 2020 Posted November 24, 2020 Tim, glad I found this project, I like following your builds...

Oldmopars Posted November 25, 2020 Posted November 25, 2020 I too will be watching this build. I have been working on this same kit off and on for about a month. The kit has a lot of short-comings and can use some added details. I am not sure you can even call the kit carburetor a "Holley" it is a lump of undefined plastic that has a minor resemblance to a carb. I have spent some time searching for a proper Rochester Q-Jet and there are none being made in 1:16 scale. Even though it is wrong, I may get a 3D printed Holley just because it has more detail and looks correct. Anyway, great job so far, I look forward to what you do with it.
