I've seen several people post that Hobby Lobby coupons save them only a dollar or two over the LHS.

Where are you people buying models that you pay less than $20?  Forty percent off a $30 model is a price reduction of $12, with a final price of $18. Are you doing better than that?

I was wondering the same thing.

HL and Michael’s are it for kits in my area with the nearest Hobbytown an hour away.  There’s one local shop that has a few kits left from the previous shop ownership but t is 95% Radio Control stuff now.  I bought some supplies a few days ago there as they still had Tamiya paints, glue and putty.  Having missed countless shows last year and with cancellations this spring there is slim pickings.  I rarely buy new kits online as I used to buy them at our local MAMA meetings but the last one February 2020.

In the mid 90’s I don’t know if they had coupons then I would buy a kit once in a while and build it. A kit once in a while won’t break me but I won’t be buying anything extra.

Mieyers (sp) used to sell kits for less than 10 bucks each 18-20 years ago... I used to buy about a half dozen kits at a time... Then they stopped selling them...?

My thoughts exactly. Where are people buying current catalog kits for $20 or less. Like you said, 40% off the 29.99 kits brings it down to a shade under $18. What LHS has the same kit for $20?

I still have a LHS, and support them nearly every week with some sort of purchase.

you will most definitely still be able to buy model kits at 40% off. They will probably bring it in line with the rotating sales they have on just about every other department throughout the year. You'll just have to pay attention to when the sale is.

Unless they are going to bring the shelf price of model kits down as part of their "discounting" initiative. then the rotating sale may reduce to 20 or 30%.

With so many LHS closing, yeah... Hobby Lobby can save you money at on a $30 kit if you find what you're looking for. Buying online like scalehobbyist or  hobbylinc even if they're  on sale,  you need to consider tax AND s&h charges.

Wish they would send me a 40% coupon, never received more than 20%.

You don't need to wait for the 40% coupon. Go to the Hobby Lobby site on your phone, click coupon link to Bring to store. They can scan the barcode from your phone.

Doing away WILL hurt overall sales......but how many of us go in there and just buy one kit with the 40% and only because of the coupon?? Sales of kits may slow......cloth, yarn, crafts, beads etc.......not so much IMHO Only!

Who told you they're doing away with the 40% coupon? The only thing I heard the 40% all models sale will end in February. Not the 40% coupon as a whole. They will always have the 40% on their website.

Read back in thread. Coupon is going away.

Hope you are right.....but news story from the net posted above says different......go back to my OP and see this info came from Hobby Lobby marketing dept. Other than that rumor.....maybe....

Found this on Facebook:

Many years ago, the company I worked for was exporting some products to Australia and they had to comply with the ADR for motor vehicles.  Our corporate partner in Australia sent their guy that was in charge of certification to review the required paperwork.  He stayed a couple of extra days and one of his missions was to find a reasonable deal on an air brush for his son. In addition to the paperwork I was also driving him around town.  We stopped at Michaels and he found the right air brush.  We got to the counter and the clerk pulled out the 40% coupon.  I was newly single and Ross  points to the coupon says to me  "Steve, look at all the women in here... and they're all 40% off"

They could just...ya know...price stuff like a normal store instead of shelf racking everything at MSRP. I mean Wal*Mart & Target don't put a 40% off coupon because they're not charging the highest end price for everything.

Throughout the existence of HL, buying a model kit there with the 40% off would only save me about 40-60 cents over going to my LHS.

I know a lot of people don't have a LHS. I get that...but man buncha middle aged dudes got sucked in by the same coupon marketing designed to lure in old ladies who fancy themselves as "crafty". Seems like you're getting a sale, and in fact just paying what the regular asking price really is...not actually saving a thing.

Please share with us where these LHS are at that sell kits comparable to Hobby Lobby with the discount, because I haven't seen any. I bought the recent Revell 76 Chevy stepside pickup at Hobby Lobby for $16 with the 40% off sale. I would gladly support a small owned business if it exists and try to when shopping online or in person.

I've been told by the last two girls working the cash register at HL, when I used my coupon that Feb.28 would be the last day for the 40% off.

Wow... that's news to me. I don't get it. They close at 8 pm everyday, they close on Sundays, now they want to eliminate the 40% coupon.

Here's the thing.. it's not 40% on every single item you cash out (usually the most expensive item gets the 40% off), nor it's 40% off the total bill. Can't say I don't blame the consumers but now watch Micheal's gain a huge customer base.

Article claim they're going to change their prices on all their products. We'll see. You can't fix stupid business financial management. I think that's going to be their downfall. Model kits and tools won't be moving on their shelves anytime soon come March 1st.

We will have to see what they do. I know I am picking up a few kits before the coupons a phased out. Will have to see what they do with regular prices. Kits at HL are $2 more than my LHS, so the coupon helps when they have a kit I want, when they do not have it, I go to my LHS.

I plan on stopping at HL often as I can as well. Gotta stock up on tools, paints, kits...

They may have been using the coupon to grow the business and the chain is established enough that they don’t need the lure anymore.

Or craft and hobby sales have been good during the pandemic and no need to give stuff away.

Forget about Michael’s.. they’ve been circling the bowl for awhile. Last time I looked at my local one, I have more models on the shelves over my workbench than they had!
