I didn’t buy that magazine and left that forum over him a long time ago. IIRC, what pushed me over the edge was when he attacked somebody else for converting a Revell Civic SI kit to RWD because he felt it ruined Civics winter use by doing so??

I got banned from the forum for not spelling in American. I think the posts I got about that were "you're in America now so spell American". It didn't seem to register that I'm not in America

Yeah Haught was a piece of work. I got banned for a couple months because I had the audacity to post a poll "should SA bring back the E?".

Wow!

I apparently didn't spend much time over there when he was around.

Did this guy wear a pair of S's shaped like lightening bolts on his lapel, or what?

It's kind of funny because I occasionally would read opinions from members on the SA site about how they left the MCM site because they didn't like the contentiousness that took place here.

At least we're not moderated by skin heads!

I remember when they (he) banned depictions of the General Lee car's roof decoration. I see this as kind of ironic since "He who shall not be named" was a bit Hitlerian about it, and that FSM still allows depiction of Nazi Swastikas on "supposedly historically accurate" war machinery. Hmmmm. I wonder if Fine Scale itself will allow that certain 69 Charger to be depicted with roof top in full view.

FSM is a joke. So is Aaron Skinner and Elizabeth Nash. I told them to ban me after one member by the name of GMorrison reported me after I called him out. They even went far as monitor my posts before accepting them. FSM always seem to favor GMorrison than listen to other members complaints against him. Several members have left FSM because of him since. If you can’t stand political correctness, don’t  go to FSM.

Actually that news w a s that they were dropping sa. The website and forum news  is new. Just announced.

Expand

Not really. They were planning on shutting down the forums and website along with the magazine back then when the news first broke. Speculations ran amok back then. That’s why there was such a big uproar over in FSM. Everyone knew they were going to do this. Kalmbach is slowly killing their publication. FSM claimed they will feature the scale auto section in Fine Scale Modeler magazine. Yeah right, we’ll see....

It'll be interesting if they offer subscription refunds to those who renewed subscriptions to Scale Auto prior to the big announcement. FSM only caters mostly to aircrafts, armour, science fiction, ships, and figures. A very tiny percentage to auto related subjects.

Time will tell for sure. I'm on fsm daily and missed the ruckus. The departure of the website and forum was news to me. All I saw was the magazine announcement until the Saturday one.

I agree. I think that’s why there was such a big uproar over losing Scale Auto magazine and it’s a huge shock at the announcement and no one is happy about it. I build aircraft mostly myself as well as a small amount of armour. I’ll build anything that piques my interest.

Wow!

I saw that!

That was a real doozy wasn't it.

I guess he is taking advantage of the fact that the SA forum will be gone in a few days and decided to get in a couple of real barn burners on the way out.

He forgot to take into account that many of us spend time on several different boards.

I take it they just started up a troll account separate from their normal one?

My only 1:1 experience with Mr. Haught was a PM conversation with him asking what he thought of his advertisers taking money from his subscribers and not delivering product. You know, a few of those resin guys that have been discussed here and there for years. It was pretty clear that Mr. Haught did not want to get involved in any way that would offend his advertisers.

I got the latest issue of Fine Scale Modeler.  The only thing I could find having to do with model cars or trucks was a listing of a few new releases or reissues. I can see where there are some interesting articles that were centered on paint techniques that were ok but I don't see that they're putting any effort forward toward what you could call our collective interest as far as automobiles.  I have tried to cancel my subscription but they have ignored my requests so I'm stuck for the next year as I had just renewed about a week before they pulled the plug on their magazine. Without some very dramatic changes I will not be renewing my subscription.

That forum has turned into a steaming pile of dog BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH just like the magazine.

You've got one guy posting long winded BS and then asking if he should change his screen name, another posts sports cards and stamps in post after post.

I quit posting there, just drop in every so often to see the latest fiasco. I give FSM 6 months before it's gone too.

Same here - communicated with Jim Haught by email -  same response you got - I considered SAE to be an accomplice.  The ads continued so I cancelled my long term subscription and requested a refund.  MCM to their credit had dropped those advertisers but SAE would not.

I spent a limited amount of time there, but now that it's going away, I have to chuckle a little thinking of some of the members there who incessantly bad mouthed the MCM forum and claimed that they would never return.

Seems that their options are beginning to dwindle a bit. ;)

I build aircraft as well, so I do see the need for magazines. However, I find the information in FSM to be less detailed than I can find in magazines like Scale Aviation Modeller International or Model Airplane International. I want to still have a magazine dedicated to automotive subjects available to purchase at my hobby shop.

Did anyone get their final SA yet, by the way?  I’m still waiting, and haven’t had a FSM for a while either...despite @PatW having got his already all the way over the pond ??

I recently received my last SA issue, and just got my first FS a couple days ago. I'll hold my opinion on FS until the next issue comes out.

Got mine last week. I think it was the last of my subscription, so I won't need to throw away a FSM.
