Russell C Posted December 2, 2020 Posted December 2, 2020 Those of us who are stuck forever living in the 1980s can never forget the widebody creations of Willy Koenig.

It was kind of an outlaw in the racing business, indeed. The one from the pictures is a factory replica of the car that finished 2nd in the 1971 24 Hours of Spa. The original car was sold to French company Matra, who modified it with a mechanism to test fighter jet tires. It is unknown what happened to the car afterwards. Edited December 4, 2020 by mattg

Draggon Posted December 4, 2020 Posted December 4, 2020 This is Hans Heyer and his 1980 500 SLC Le Mans car. The story I read said that he built this for one reason--to be the fastest down the Mulsanne straight. Varying reports say it didn't work, was banned, or Mercedes wouldn't allow him to race it.
