B.R.B.O. 2021 Ford T8000 Dump

This is on an extended Louisville dump chassis. It is a Dans Models resin cab. The engine is a scratch built 6v-53 Detroit diesel. The transmission is a 5 speed Spicer main with a 4 speed auxiliary. The front wheels are from the Ford C cab. The drive wheels and two piece rear tires are from an old Ertl IH kit. The bed sides and floor are aluminum. Thanks to “leafsprings” for the build sheet. I tried to keep it as close to that as I could.

Great job.  Captured that used but not abused look.  There is nothing cooler than an old Ford truck.

Excellent job on this vintage oil burning Ford!  Looks like it has on construction sites for years without a wax or polish. You have captured the look of  a hard working no frills dump truck.  You have inspired me to start building mine soon.

As I said over on the Model Truck Builder Forum, I love this model. Probably my favorite of your recent builds (that’s saying a lot with how much I enjoyed the T800).

I really think the perfectly aged finish is what sets it apart. It is incredibly realistic. I’ve seen that paint on many older trucks. Common in the real world, but so rarely captured so well in the hobby world.

Thanks Jim! I have been wanting to build something with a 6v-53 for a long time now. I’m pretty happy with how this one turned out.

Brian, Compared to the difficulties you had with the cab in the beginning this truck turned out absolutely fantastic. Also the weathering is spot on.

May I ask what you did that inside the dump box the outside webbing can be seen where the 'sand' rubbed off the paint? That looks especially convincing. Juergen

I replaced the plastic sheeting on the side with thin aluminum. I then distressed it to conform the frame work. On the floor, I laid out .040 Evergreen styrene the same width and in the same location as the beams under the floor. I then covered that with the same thin aluminum distressing it around the .040 styrene. I used a combination of rust, red oxide, black and chalk to simulate rust. A dump bed used every day would stay smooth and shiny, but it doesn’t take but a few days of rain to make one rusty again.

x 2, Brian - the dump sides look also very convincing - where rocks hammered against the side walls creating those bumps and dents - extraordinary realistic !!!

Brian, I think you always keep on surpassing yourself and this last effort is a good example!

Resin kits are fantastic and rare subjects but come with additional challenges but it doesn't seem to stop you, it's nothing short of high caliber work.  As usual you present us with a truck where you have to look twice to realize that it is not a real one and that is an indisputable mark of success!
