Thanks for posting the 61 Starfire.  Really cool.

 Richard Zocchi built a 61 Olds 88 that had a 60 Mercury grille, which cleaned up the front end a bit.

Funny that you should mention that.

Apparently the addition of a '61 Merc grille was a quite common custom touch on these Oldsmobiles.

Personally, I like the Olds grille better, but that's just my opinion.

Regarding American cars, I'd say the early to mid 60's produced some of the most beautiful looking cars, especially Chrysler products. The flamboyant 50's fins and ridiculous amounts of chrome were pretty much gone and the boxy bland land yachts were a few years away. In the UK I'd say the early 70's was the best time when it came to good looking cars, same can't be said for their reliability though!

OK, I give in. There have been so many great looking cars over the years and to pick my favorite is a tough one. I love '57 Chevies and I'm a bit surprised that I think only one is shown on this thread.

So, I'm gonna choose one that sits in my garage right now:

Well, I'm not sure that many would agree with the "early to mid 60s Mopar" part.

While I love these cars for their individuality, many of them only a mother could love!

Really? I'll agree with you on your first three, but IMHO, the '63 Plymouth was better looking than the '63 Chevy and MUCH better looking than the '63 Ford.

Yeah, the first two in those pictures are still very 1950's in design but the Dart is an interesting one to me. It shows how tastes were changing but can't quite shake off that futurist styling of the late 50's.

There are a surprising number of iconic cars that have not yet been chosen as a favorite of anyone. And maybe not so surprisingly, these pages show zero modern cars within the last 10-15 years. Well, except for the frog car which some people actually like enough to buy🙄

That's where personal taste comes in.

 

I don't think that there was any real "flow" to the design of the '63 Plymouth.

The parking light nacelles are wonky, it's thin in the front, thick in the back, and the top is chunky and reminiscent of a cardboard box.

Even the side trim has the flow interrupted by that "hiccup" at the panel line between the door and front fender.

To my eye, it looks like a bit of a Frankenstein's monster, made up of spare, mismatched parts.

 

That being said, I love it myself!

But then again, I would give my eye teeth for a nicely restored '61 Plymouth Fury too!

That '61 Plymouth - it works so well for the rest of that sleek body, but oh, that grille... if I had money to throw at one, I'd redo the front clip like a Ghia 6.4L but with quad headlights instead of the Cibie units, and french the taillights into the panel below the decklid.

There are lots of cars I find very attractive and pleasing to my eye.  One of them is Maserati Ghibli.  Fairly simple, yet such beautiful sleek lines.
