Hi Misha, the aluminum has been “on hand” for MANY years so not sure it’s origin. It is backed with thin plastic on the back side. I would say it is similar in thickness to flashing, but softer. It gives a really good edge to trim against without fear of slipping.

After “sleeping on it” going with my original plan of no side trim. As I made the filler piece, it gave me the thought of a smaller trim piece looking good. The picture in your response is still the main influence for my build. As for filler, still using Tamiya, the only issue I have had with it was on the Impala wagon, and I believe it was the “hot” paint that caused the problem. So hoping no issue this time, fingers crossed! Still not sure on suicide doors, I will wait until I have new lines cut, old door lines filled and primer on it.

Thanks for checking in.

Hi David! Yes, I believe it is technically a splitter, wasn’t sure what language to use there. As mentioned above, there will be no side trim, which to your point, will keep the smooth look I’m after. Door handle decision will wait for now. The Kindig style is the flush mount, similar to a Tesla? I ask because that is one of the looks I have in my head.

Thanks for your input, it is always welcome sir.

My door handle suggestion ios just what you thought. Something that would be little more of an outline just like the handles on the Tesla. Of course no handles at all with the idea of the old "Popper" style door openers might be a consideration as well.

Now, I'm looking at other mundane subjects to give this treatment to. I'm kinda wondering what the Foose Caddy wheels painted black with the whitewalls would look like on the 300C or the Caddy kit (CTS?) that came out several years ago. You've started something Steve!

Hello David, that’s what I figured. You’re on the same page as me, my first thought/choice is no handles, but I am going to play with a Tesla style handle to see what it looks like. Thanks for chiming in.

Haha!!! I love it. I saw that beast a couple of days ago, sorry I haven’t left a note there yet, I’ll do that tonight. But I will say here, I love that car. Your builds inspire me, so I’m glad I could sort-of return the favour.

I did size up the Foose Caddy wheels, they are a touch small for the 300. I did source another set though, and I think they will be “the ones”, mock-up to come…  Thanks for checking on sir, I think this build will be right up your alley.

Not sure if you ever saw my ‘41 Chev truck. I built it about 4 years ago, metallic red, with flat clear.

Hi guys, small update.

Its officially a 2dr now. Bodywork is still a little rough, but getting close. I used a strip of styrene rod to fill the channel where the chrome trim would have gone. Small filler pieces were added to the top of the B pillar before re-attaching. Front and rear bumpers are glued on. These are going to be blended to the body to eliminate any seams and add to the smooth look I’m aiming for. Hoping to get more of the fine tuning done on the body today, glue the splitter on, and get another coat of primer on it. I have found a hood scoop that I really  like, just need to massage it a bit then attach.
Not sure what you guys think, but the relocated B pillar makes a dramatic change to the look of the car…. I like it!

I already know that for sure I will build another one of these using the other idea I had. Two door hard top, shortened behind the front door by about 8-10 scale inches. Probably a slight top chop as well.

As always, all comments welcomed.

Loving the conversion! makes the top look chopped already

Hi Chris, I agree. I think they always looked like they had a mild chop, but it seems more pronounced in 2 door configuration. I have another idea I’m going to play with that might exaggerate the chopped look even more.
Thanks for having a look.

Hi Steve!

Great work, as usual I should add! Bravo!

Just curious: have you considered making it a hard top (no central post at all... just a slim chromed edge at the front of the quarter window) ? The low "chopped roof" look of the OEM design would look even more so. The longer "daylight opening" on the side of the car would therefore make it look longer too.

Just my two cents...

Hi Claude!! How are you sir? I did consider the hard top, but the opening without any pillar looked too long to my eye. However… as mentioned, I am definitely doing another one of these as a 2dr HT, but I will shorten it somewhat, and likely a subtle chop. I actually don’t know why I like these cars so much, but from the first time I saw one I liked it. I think they have stood the test of time… Not sure exactly what treatment the next one will get, but rest assured, it will be LOW!!  BTW, I ALWAYS appreciate your 2 cents.
Thanks for checking in sir! Now, back to the desk…

Moving along…

I filled in the exhaust recesses at the back as I will have side exit exhaust. Did a bit of “fine tuning” on the window frame areas, added the splitter, and installed the hood scoop. I knew this would look pretty cool as a 2dr, but it’s actually even cooler than I had expected. Still a fair bit of sanding to do, but it’s starting get the aggressive look I’m aiming for.

That’s really smooooth Steve! The proportions for the two door work so well, too bad Chrysler never pursued it. The vintage Mopar scoop is a neat touch, wonder about its placement… is it to forward? How does it line up with the air intake under the hood? Any decision on which way the doors would open?
Exciting project on your hands, be following closely, cheers Misha

Hi Steve!

A friend of mine is a shrink, and he once told me why the 300 was so popular with men: squarish chiseled look (very angular, appeals to men), exagerated main features (grille, wheelwels, large wheels... makes you want to play with it like a Tonka), and a high belt line that makes the greenhouse appear almost "chopped" in stock form. Throw in a badge that screams HEMI, and voilà, it pushes all the right buttons for a typical guy!

So, rest assured, you are as normal as any styrene nut can be, my friend. And look who's talking here... LOL.

Hi Misha, I agree about the proportions, they look perfect as a 2dr. The scoop is intentionally forward. I played with a few locations, placing it forward added to the aggressive look I am after at the front. The door handles might stay shaved, haven’t got around to that area yet.  Thanks for your interest and comments.

Excellent job converting to a two door. I guess a Challenger essentially is a two door 300/Charger.

Hi Phil, thank you sir. I would guess you’re right about that. It was good to see you last week.

Thank you all for having a look and commenting.

I’m 95% decided on wheels but… I thought I’d  show the three choices I have and see what you guys think. Body colour is going to be flat charcoal grey, any remaining trim will be black.

I want them tucked in flush with the body. They are stick further because I shaved down the raised area just below. F87C286B-4BF7-4D25-9FFB-652137DE8A77.thumb.jpeg.a62a30ebe3ff7a856605396d7e9fda44.jpegB4285941-3C81-4E11-97FA-6D4DC15A0C9D.thumb.jpeg.2f70c4b450fccf31280890b7e49f1dfc.jpeg
In the photos driver side is modified, passenger side not…

The recess the bumpers fit in was longer on the passenger side than on the driver side. So after finishing both sides I filled in the recess to match bumper. (No photo)

Thanks for looking, and I look forward to hearing opinions on the wheels!

Hey Steve,

Impressed with speed/quality of this conversion! Looking forward to finished product.

My vote for wheels would be #1

I like wheel #3 my self. Offered a little contrast to the other colors. The real thin sunken front Bumpers look good to me.
