happy grumpy Posted January 17, 2022 Posted January 17, 2022 A few years ago, while browsing this forum ,I stumble on a nice "what if" kind of build of a 69 eliminator fast back and it looked so right. I don't remember who did it but if you recognize yourself, thank you for inspiring me to build my own. I swap the top and back from an AMT 69 mustang and voila. This is how this car should have been build IMHO but you don't have to agree. It came out t better than I thought it would since I am weary of attempting extensive surgery like some of you do. Since it is a relatively simple mod and that I wanted this so bad, It got me going. As always thanks for sharing. 4
Ace-Garageguy Posted January 18, 2022 Posted January 18, 2022 GOOD looking car. Nice clean work. Sure would be fun to build a real one and stand back to listen while all the "experts" pontificated about what it was.
cobraman Posted January 18, 2022 Posted January 18, 2022 Looks great Mario. Better than the original IMO.
Eric Macleod Posted January 18, 2022 Posted January 18, 2022 That is awesome and looks the part 100%. I even like the colors!
Geno Posted January 18, 2022 Posted January 18, 2022 (edited) This one Mario? I'm happy to be of inspiration if this is the model that got you interested in doing one. You nailed it Buddy, She looks fantastic. I know I enjoyed building mine.? Edited January 18, 2022 by Geno 1
rickcaps55 Posted January 18, 2022 Posted January 18, 2022 That looks awesome thats one Ford should have done !!
espo Posted January 18, 2022 Posted January 18, 2022 Beautiful looking body mods. You have to wonder why Mercury didn't do this way back when. Like the Eliminator color and trim theme.
GLMFAA1 Posted January 18, 2022 Posted January 18, 2022 Looks like a real mover, not a pussy cat. I wonder what a 68 'cat' would look like with the 'tang' fastback? greg

Anyway, yours looks just as cool. I wonder why Ford did not offer a fast back option for the cougar, it looks so natural in this configuration. I guess someone at ford did not want to compete directly with the Mustang unlike Camaro and Firebird. Thanks for sharing your take on the cougar. Proof that I am not the only one who likes this iteration of an already nice car.
Pat Minarick Posted January 18, 2022 Posted January 18, 2022 This one maybe? You did a nice job on yours. Going to do a '70 as soon as I get a few missing pieces.
Claude Thibodeau Posted January 18, 2022 Posted January 18, 2022 Hi Mario! Very nice, it is a "natural" shall we say. Bravo! Many illustrators tried their hand at a fast-back Cougar, but most, it seems, envisionned swapping the roof from 69 Torino. Yours is very convincing. CT
happy grumpy Posted January 18, 2022 Author Posted January 18, 2022 Thanks everyone for the kind words. 27 minutes ago, Pat Minarick said: This one maybe? You did a nice job on yours. Would be fun to see one done for real. thanks for sharing. 1
1959scudetto Posted January 18, 2022 Posted January 18, 2022 Excellent looking phantom Cougar, Mario - fantastic finish (and background!) als always!
AMT68 Posted January 18, 2022 Posted January 18, 2022 Beautiful paint finish on a very nicely done conversion.
Bills72sj Posted January 19, 2022 Posted January 19, 2022 Very nice phantom. It would be a nice one to try in the future.
SSNJim Posted January 19, 2022 Posted January 19, 2022 (edited) Mario, your Cougar looks great. Mercury did do a Cougar show car called El Gato. It was a metallic green fastback Cougar with definitely 70s styling for the grille and taillights, but easily recognized as a Cougar. I always wanted to build one, but it's way back in the queue. It got clipped by a salt truck and totaled.
